prAna makes the Best Shorts
I wear these shorts every day. 100s of wash and wear cycles - still fit and look great. The fabric keeps cool, resists water and dirt, pockets well designed. Adjustable waist band is brilliantly integrated. I never write reviews but these shorts and prAna warrant praise. They are the only shorts I will ever need.

Love ‘em, but...
In a world of larger cell phones knives and general junk we carry, why does Prana skimp on pocket depth? My phone will fit in the left side thigh zippered pocket but it takes a minute to get in in and a minute to get it out. So leave it unzipped? Sit on a couch and out she comes. Sides pockets? The same, shallow, shallow. 1/2” deeper all around and you’ve got me for life. But you’ve just lost me after 4 pervious pairs.

Best All-Around Active/Casual Shorts

Ever since Patagonia discontinued the Rock Craft line of shorts and pants I've been searching for a good pair of shorts. The Quandary's are just ok, but I've had serious durability issues with them. This pair of Zion shorts make my 3rd. I wear them for going to town, rock climbing, working (mechanic), hiking, and even trail running. If you wear shorts, the Zion will have a spot in your gear. Versatile, comfortable, breathable, stretchy, durable, and freakin magical. 6'3" 170lbs Sz. 32 with 12" inseam fit perfect. My one knock is that the cargo pocket is on the left leg, as someone who's right handed I just can't seem to get used to it after years of having that pocket on the right leg.

Sturdy, yet comfy

These shorts are great. I bought one pair in the store and liked them so much I ordered two more in different colors. The cut is super comfortable, the stretch fabric makes them more flexible than I am, and the "adjustable waistband system" means I don't have to wear them with a belt if I don't feel like it. My only complaints are that the nylon webbing on the "adjustable waistband system" is a bit slippery (so I cinch it up a few times a day), and that the zippers on the lower pocket are a little awkward to operate (so you won't want to put any frequently-used items in it).

finally orders a second pair

I have seen some comments about the thigh pocket. At first I didn’t get it either...until I did. Once I discovered that the other zipper allowed me to access the contents while seated, I really understood the genius of these shorts. Love the ability to cinch the waste based on my activity. I wear these hiking, biking, as work shorts for projects around the house, and out with friends. So versatile, and even more comfortable. . I can wear them for days and they don’t seem ready for the wash. Just ordered a second pair...what took me so long?!

THE shorts to buy

I've had a pair of these for about a year now and they've quickly become the only shorts I wear; the only exception being laundry days when I wash them. They are breathable, quick drying, not mobility-limiting, abrasive-resistant (I use them in the climbing gym and they don't look any worse for it), and really comfortable. The pockets are nice and deep and in my opinion look fantastic. Really don't have enough good things to say about these. For the REI anniversary I just went overboard and bought 3 more in different colors since they are on sale.

Love the fit and color.

(They're actually called Zion Shorts). First of all, I'm a woman and I tried the Prana Women's Zion shorts that "look" the same but have been dumbed-down for some odd reason. The lady's model has teeny tiny front pockets, large enough for just a lipstick tube. A drawstring was added at the waist, unnecessarily, and the fit is super weird. Ladies, just go to the men's section and try the same short on over there. Much better tailoring, fit and finish. And nice deep pockets. The only thing I don't like is that the zipper doesn't stay all the way up. And not because I'm fat cuz I'm not, it just doesn't stay up. I may take these back and see if another pair has a zipper that stays. I also plan to buy the other color which is a blue-gray.

Great Everyday Short

These shorts are fantastic. They are lightweight and don't stick to me like some of the Dri-Fit shorts I own. I would give these 4.5 stars if possible, ONLY due to the zipper on the side of the cargo pocket. I can never open it. Ever. It's fine, because if I ever need to use it, the top zipper is fine but I have read a few other reviews where others have had similar issues. It makes me curious as to why it's there in the first place if Prana can't figure out how to make it function. I'm also a big fan of the adjustable waistband, as it allows the day-to-day fluctuations in my waistline. I now own 2 pair of these, 1 in green ("mud" is the name, I think?) and the other in khaki and I shamefully wear them every day after I get out of work clothes. I must also say the small holes in the gussets of the short help keep you cool quite a bit even in Texas heat. Happy hiking.

Great shorts

I bought these shorts with intention to use them while hiking, but they have become one of my go to options during the warm months. I will probably end up buying more or at least similar ones in the future. The design has plenty of pockets, and I love the easily adjustable built in belt, which helps a lot for adjusting when changing activities. They are made out of mostly nylon, which dries pretty quick, but they have a texture more like cotton. I am not a fan of polyester fabrics so this is very important to me. Overall they are great hiking shorts that work just as good with daily use.

Best shorts ever.

I have 4 pairs, although my most recent pair has a defect in workmanship because the seam on the short leg opening is falling apart. I just called the store and they said they would replace them or refund up to 1 year for defects which is great.

Great Shorts, Lame Belt

I would give these shorts an Excellent rating if not for that built-in belt. The end was always hanging down, looking sloppy, and the belt seemed to loosen over time. I was forever having to re-tighten it. Thank goodness they included regular belt loops so that you can remove the built-in belt and use a regular one. I clipped off the plastic buckle (I did not cut the cloth loop), then pulled the belt out as far as I could and cut it off. Ta-da! Now I do have an excellent pair of shorts. Good fit, tough, flexible.
