Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Highly recommend!
I bought these in black at REI and liked them enough (even before I wore them) to order online in the olive green. Have since worn them and am very pleased. They fit well, are a modest length and stay modest when sitting. The stretch keeps them comfortable when walking. Are dressy enough for wearing places other than hiking. Cool, lightweight, will be easy to pack in a suitcase. Just wish they came in a khaki color. Pretty true to size. Perhaps just a tad roomy, but all the better for hiking, walking (won't bind). Adjustable drawstring helps cinch waist.
busted snaps
Like other reviewers have mentioned, these are super comfortable. They hold their shape and dry quickly. Unfortunately, they have awful snaps and I've now lost both snaps on 1 of my pairs.
Issues with the button closure
I liked the rugged, durability look of these shorts so bought a pair online. As some other reviewers have stated, just a tad snug but not so much that I am uncomfortable enough to want to try sizing up. Just spent an entire weekend camping in them and they were great! But I did have one issue - the bottom snap closure, the back end busted off. And because it is plastic, you can't just stick it back on. I'm going to have to tap into my seamstress skills to try to fix them (yes, I like them so much that I want to fix them rather than return them!). So overall I would recommend, maybe I just got a pair with lemon snaps. :) But I would recommend to REI to either use traditional buttons or go with metal snaps - more durable.
Comfortable and hard-working
These were put to the test right away and were everything I wanted! I bought these primarily to wear for work, which requires a lot of walking, sitting, squatting and lifting while staying modest. The amount of stretch is perfect while not losing shape after a long day. I went up from my normal 4/6 size in other brands to an 8 and they are comfortably snug - waist 28/hips 39. The inseam is just short enough to not feel unfashionable.
A bit snug
I sized up based on recommendations. They are still a bit snug. Admittedly I need to lose some weight an work out (two years post gallbladder surgery has left me pudgy). However I don't like the fact that the hem is snug in the thigh when squatting. I'm not sure that if I lose weight or tone up that this issue will resolve itself, it may be a style issue. I'm going to hold onto them for now, to see how the fit at the end of my eight week work out regimen. I would suggest skipping these if you are looking for something with a more relaxed fit in the thigh.
Nice Shorts, but difficult buttons.
I bought these shorts about a month ago and loved them to pieces. They are an awesome, breathable material that made it easy for me to work on my farm, hike, and bike. The only issue I had with them is that the buttons to snap the shorts together were ridiculously tight. Tight to the point where one day I was trying to undo them and the half the button snapped off the material and the other half was still attached to the opposite side of the button. I ended up getting a new pair from REI because I was so bummed. Other than that, they are a good buy.
Broken buttons
The first time I when to take these off a button broke. The buttons kind of work like a pearly snap button, except for they're plastic. After couple of days of wearing these on a climbing trip I forgot to delicately unsnap the second button and it broke right off too. The material is awesome. They don't really get dirty. They're comfortable but the buttons broke off. It's a bummer and I don't know how I would even fix them as the buttons are plastic. But maybe it could have been just my pair that was defective? I would bet it's the product and material itself.
My new favorite hiking shorts
These are great!! Very comfortable. Just the length I was looking for. What I love: *The material. Durable canvas on the back, durable slightly stretchy material on the front. *Length is modest and long enough to not ride up into your crotch, but short enough to allow constant airflow! *Big, deep, awesome pockets *good strong snaps in the front. (Tired of ties and weird closure systems!) *no annoying swishy sound What's not great: *I had to order a size up because the legs were a little restrictive while squatting down. The cuffs aren't stretchy at all. Waist is too big now, but good with a belt. (Or with the subtle little tightener cord if you have no belt!) *Seems like there's slightly too much front or not enough butt or something. *wish they came in gray! I wanted to get the long pants too, but they were restrictive at the knees. Will stick with stretchier long hiking pants I guess. For now I'm excited to wear these this summer!!
broken snap button/bought wrong size
I purchased these on impulse in a size 2 (I am 29 in jeans, size 6 at fast fashion retailers) because they fit in the store. However, if i do not tuck my shirt in, they tend to chafe at the waistband. Both the snap buttons have broken about 5 months after owning them and I have not been wearing them other than around my apartment, but I plan to replace them with metal snap buttons. Overall very good, versatile shorts. I wear them hiking and tuck a few granola bars into the pockets, to class (fits a 5x7 notebook in the pockets), or to parties/music festivals with fishnets underneath.
Flattering length and fit
I have been looking for comfortable walking shorts that aren't too short. These shorts are a nice length and have a flattering fit, so I thought I would be happy with them. However, while the stretch in them helps to hold their shape and keep them looking nice, they start to feel too snug within a short time of having them on. Not sure that a bigger size would have fit as well. I am a 5'3", 130 lb, size 10, 50+ mom.
