Poorly designed for ThruAxle forks.

The front end of this carrier is wide, much wider than I expected. It should be narrower to maximize rack carrying capacity. The portion that secures the axle only captures about 2/3 of the axle width. That makes me nervous as it's a lot of force across a smaller section. The design doesn't have a cut-out for the brake caliper so the fork is offset all the way to one side. I have a Thule bars with T-track. This carrier should be designed so the bolts mount under the front housing/lever for sleek and secure attachment.

Great idea but,....

I'm on my third one of these. I need 2 through axle racks and this, by Thule, was the first one offered. It is easy to attach to your bars, easy to load the bikes on and easy to lock. However, they do not hold up to just a few loading sessions. In less than a year, I have had 2 break. It all has to do with the through axle mechanism. It appears the shaft that allows the mechanism to lock on the axle bends and then you can't close the locking plate. The second time, it was even worse as it bent my through axle. Try bending one of these by yourself. So, after paying $75 for a new axle I am in the search for a bike rack that actually works long term. However, I must give REI 5 stars as I am able to return this cheaply made rack hopefully, for one that works. I understand Rocky Mounts has one but I have not seen it for sale.

Great bike rack

Bought the Thule ThruRide to use with Thule AeroBlade bars. The first surprise was that the back attachment of the rack came with only a clamping bracket and not the "T" attachment that AeroBlade bars use. The second surprise was said bracket could not be mounted on my rack / car combination (Audi Allroad) because there is not enough clearance between the rack and the car roof to mount this bracket. After several go arounds with Thule support, they sent me the XADAPT 1 adapter kit which does utilize the "T" bolt which inserts into the slot of the AeroBlade bar. Long story short, I can now mount the ThruRide rack onto the bars in less than a minute. The rack itself works great and does include a 9mm adapter for bikes that do not have thru axles.

OK, but why not a "V" shaped tray?

After a few uses this rack does its job. There aren't many options for fork mounted racks that work with thru-axle (or variety of axles for that matter) so it is nice in that regards. The "D" profiled tray is silly and completely lacks any function--it seems like Thule was putting "style" over function as the v-shaped trays naturally cradle the rear wheel as you are maneuvering the bike into position. The D-shaped tray is useless as a temporary resting spot for the back wheel as you move the bike into place and depending on your aesthetics just looks silly.

Secure and easy to use

I've used this rack for the last few years and it holds securely to my bike, minimal road noise and really simple to load in and out. The only downside is you have to take the front wheel off but I always have room for it in the trunk. Really a great product!
