This car-top bike carrier is my favorite for loading and unloading a road bike. It’s the middle of three racks on my car. When I lift the bike I have to stretch quite a bit to place it. The holder arm grasps the downtube. By prepositioning the arm I’m able to lean the bike into the wheel holder and push it upright. The clamp is tightened by a few turns of the clamp knob. It clicks when sufficient pressure has been applied to securely hold the bike. It’s a dream to use.

I literally purchased this rack and discussed with the sales guy whether it had a lock or not to secure the bike to the rack and the rack to the car. He said it did. What he didn’t mention, nor did the packaging mention, that the locks aren’t included. There’s a place to put a lock to do both of what I needed. Be prepared to spend another 60+ for special Thule locks made of platinum. Also, don’t throw your rack on your vehicle, head down to REI, and run in to pick up locks. You will come out to find your rack stolen. Thule isn’t getting another dime out of me.

Hello Dave, I'm sorry to hear about the theft of your bike racks and bike. It looks like the thieves cut right through the crossbars, and took the whole bike rack without removing them. Unfortunately, a dedicated thief with enough time and the right tools can circumvent most security systems. Thule locks serve as a deterrent, but the best way to protect any cargo is to remove it from the vehicle when it can't be supervised for long periods of time.

Purchased carrier to carry bike when I travel; chose Thule because my car (Subaru Outback) came with Thule bars. I'd had a Yakima system before and wish that I had stuck with it. The Thule "eagle claw" is great in theory, but not so much in practice: When removing bike, you have to tilt bike away from you with one hand, while pushing claw down out of the way with the other. When mounting the bike, you do the same but in reverse. Also, tie down straps for tires buckle on the far side, so you fasten by feel. Pros at two bike shops (in different states) who helped tell me mount/dismount bike after a trail accident marveled at the poor design.

Lack of Securement

I've been using this bike rack for a couple weeks now for my full suspension mountain bike. Today I was driving through a local parking lot going 10mph, the pavement was slightly uneven which created an intense side to side sway of my mountain bike. In a flash, my frame had forced its way out of the locking frame clamp, swung down and created a decent sized dent in my A pillar. Note: the frame clamp was 100% torqued down and locked. My bike was struggling to hold on via the straps that hold the wheels in place. If this bike rack can't even handle an uneven parking lot, how could it possibly secure a bike while going highway speeds. I absolutely DO NOT recommend this rack.

Outstanding! Exactly what I was hoping for

I've been using my ProRide XT for a couple of months now and love it. It was very easy to install on the rack and it is perfectly designed and quality manufactured. It is everything you hope for and Thule delivered. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to free up space on their back end and it is a game changer for me by allowing full access to my hatch without the hassle of dealing with a rack there.

Excellent rooftop bike rack

Traveled over 2K miles at highway speeds with adult road bikes mounted to Thule ProRide XT racks. No issues installing two racks to existing roof rails of small Lexus SUV. Bikes were very secure with no movement or rattle; straps and locking arm worked great. Placing the bikes on the roof can be a bit awkward, but manageable; easier when removing them. Strongly recommend.

Just OK

These were a warranty replacement for fork mounted racks that let one bike topple on top of a panoramic roof at 70 mph. These racks work but for my mt. bike i have discovered if you do not use a bungee to hold the from wheel straight it becomes difficult if not impossible to mount the bike properly. You almost need 3 hands. Also pumps or bottle cages on the diagonal down tube are a problem in that the clamp needs a clear area to lock in. The last issue is the cranks need to be pre-positioned in that they cannot interfere with the clamp or associated clamp tube. If positioned improperly you cannot load or unload the bike. Now one of the tire clamps simply broke and rack is useless . . .

Very pleased

Really happy with how easy this was to use - so simple to load/move/adjust the rack itself on and to load the bike on and off. It was as easy as I had hoped!

New Car - New Rack. 2nd use rack broke.

I bought the rack new from Mazda to go on our new Mazda. I just used it for the third time. The main holder released while driving and the bike peddle damaged the roof of the car. Thankfully the plastic straps held the bike from hitting the road. Thule’s quality isn’t what it used to be. These racks are an accident waiting to happen
