I'm picky about how things fit and I really enjoy this bag. I'm 5'5" and it fits great. I like the hip straps and lumbar support. The shoulder straps are wide and dint rub my neck. I took it in a one nighter, but had plenty of room for more gear. Everything is in one zippered pocket, which is nice to access and pack, but not as easy to stuff. The outside pockets are easily accessible and a good size. Can't wait to use it again!
I used this pack for an overnight trip in the Olympic National Park with one other person. I am also looking forward to using it for a trip to Thailand later this year (since it's carry-on compliant). It held a surprising amount of gear, and distributed it well on my back (I am 5'10" and wore the medium). I enjoyed the trekking pole attachments as well as the two external pockets for easy-access items. I purchased straps separately to attach my sleeping bag to the bottom, which worked out nicely. I do wish that the shoulder straps had a little bit more substantial padding, and that the side pockets had stretchier elastic (it was hard to get my water bottle in when the bag itself was full). Finally, a daisy chain on the front would have also been nice, since there are not many places to attach items with a carabiner. Overall, if it fits you well and you like the arrangement of the pockets, I think this is a good and affordable option.
I love this backpack. It keeps my shoulders cool and comfortable because of the cutouts and design. I can fit a lot in it, and it has so many easy access compartments.
If a smaller volume bag will do for you, this is a fantastic bag! My wife bought for section hiking app trail. Nicely designed bag, great price!
This is the first backpacking backpack I’ve ever purchased and I’m very glad I chose the one I did. I’m a small frame; 5’4”, 130 pounds, so when searching for my new bag I was really worried about finding one that supported the weight in the hips and not too heavily in the shoulders. I also wanted a bag that was going to really hold up and not totally break the bank. If you’ve got the same concerns, this a great option for you. This bag has pretty great lumbar and hip support. I took it out for a 2 day stay in the White River National Forest outside Vail, CO and it worked great for the short trip. Since it’s a 48L it doesn’t have room for a ton of equipment but does well for shorter excursions. The first day I hiked 14.4 miles up a mountain and by the end of the day my shoulders were not an issue. This bag does a really great job of putting the majority of the load onto the center of your hips. It also has really good foam padding in the shoulder straps that keep you from getting too sweaty as well as adding extra comfort. The hip straps have really convenient little pockets that are very accessible. This was a really nice spot for me to keep extra carabiners, bungee straps and a small pocket knife so that they wouldn’t get lost in the bottom of the bag. It is water reservoir compatible which is a huge plus in and of itself. It also has the pocket for the reservoir which keeps the water from bulging at the bottom of the bag. There are trekking pole loops on the bag which doubled great for me as extra attachment points since I don’t currently have any poles. They were strong enough for me to tie my sleeping bag, sleeping pad and my extra pair of shoes without any fear of ripping. This bag also comes with a rain cover which is extremely handy for those mid summers day rain showers that pop up in the mountains. It did a great job of keeping everything nice and dry. By far my favorite aspect of this bag is its zipper opening. The bag has a large front panel that unzips ¾ of the circumference of the bag. This allows you to access your gear from the top, bottom and sides so you do not have to do a lot of digging around to find what you’re looking for. My friends all had backpacking packs before I did and their bags had drawstring openings at the top. After seeing my bag, they really thought the design was much more useful of an opening.
