Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfortable I absolutely love this zip-up. It's become my go-to piece when hiking. I usually wear a 14/16, and I found the XXL to be comfortable in the stomach/chest area, but a bit long on the sleeves. However, I end up rolling my sleeves after hiking a few miles anyways, so it doesn't bother me. This definitely wicks away moisture, as I noticed a huge difference from hiking with a regular cotton shirt. The price is great, as is the beautiful purple color. Holds up great in the washer and dryer, as well. 10/10 would buy again. I wish REI had more non-neon colors to choose from, because I'd buy them all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I own 6 of these... These shirts are fabulous. Perfect light weight shirt/base-layer. Super stretchy -- these will never slow you down or make you feel constricted. It's the layer that you'll forget you're wearing. I'm 5'4", 120 lbs, 34C, and young, and I want a slim fit, and the XS gives me that (slightly loose in the belly area). Light enough for NorCal summer (if you're used to wearing long sleeves in moderate heat); I throw a wool sweater or fleece over it for fall/winter/spring days. I'm a equestrian and use these for my daily training rides, as well as for my nightly runs. I also own 3 of the REI (non-coop) version of this shirt, and that shirt is ever so slightly heavier than this one (and has thumb-holes, if you want that). Great buy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So soft, but holds smell These tops are so soft and extremely comfortable. More flattering on than in the picture! Only complaint is that the fabric seems to hold sweaty odor. Bottom line, perfect for throwing on to get to and from the gym when it's still a little chilly outside, but not great for a sweat intense workout or run because it holds on to smell. If REI could improve the fabric to be more odor resistant I would own one in every color they make! I'm 5'6, 140lbs, athletic build and the small fits perfectly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from warm, comfortable & light I wear these exclusively on cool hiking/camping days and plane rides, aka when I want a top that's comfortable and warm. It's so warm for its weight, and so comfortable; it feels like I'm not wearing anything while being toasty in environments I would normally be wearing a thick sweater and/or jacket. So for someone like me who's always cold, this shirt has been awesome. That being said, should I spend more than 5 mins in a warm environment, I usually sweat in it, and can get overheated. It also looks great. Unlike the picture, mine are form fitting, and quite flattering on my bigger- than-I'd-like belly. I'm 5'3", 130/5, and the XS is the right fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome top I haven't bought any REI brand clothing in a while because of fit issues, but this is a great top. I bought it for the gym and it is living up to my expectations. It is light and comfortable, not the least bit restricting. I bought a small to fit my 5'5" 112 lb frame (32D). Since I lift weights, I need a little extra room in the shoulders and arms. The small is loose on me without being big. I'd say it runs true to size (XS = 0-2; Small = 4-6; etc.).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This Shirt for Layering I love this shirt because it is thin and lightweight. I live in the mountains at 7,000 elevation. When I skate ski, cross country ski, snow shoe, hike, etc., in the winter, I frequently put on a shirt, but feel I need just a little bit more warmth so I put on this shirt underneath. It's a perfect shirt to wear underneath other shirts because it is thin. In the Spring and Fall, when a short sleeve shirt is a bit too cold, I wear this shirt and it is just right. It is also very comfortable and soft.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from too thin and clingy I also have the regular REI (not coop) quarter-zip shirt, and I much prefer the other. In fact, I'm going to return this one. The material on this one is too thin and clingy for my tastes. It is so thin, you can see a bra through it. I have a few extra pounds around my mid-section, and this clings in a very unattractive way. My advice would be to get the REI Lightweight Quarter-Zip shirt. It's a little more expensive, but noticeably better quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from hold odor Aw. This was otherwise the perfect shirt. I wanted something that would protect my skin from the sun while still being breathable, and this was it. But I couldn't keep it from getting instantly sweaty in the armpits. I don't expect it to make me smell like roses after a run, but it was worse than any other shirt I have. A vinegar wash didn't really help, and sometimes the smell didn't even come out in a regular cycle. I find that rashguards from Athleta do better at keeping odor at a normal level.

What makes the clothing UPF 50+? Is it the weave/type of the fabric or are chemicals, etc.. added to the fabric?

Asked by: Poodleowner
The UPF rating is achieved by the material without any added chemicals.

Is this suitable for water sports?

Asked by: Statsoprano
We do not recommend this shirt for most watersports as it is not waterproof, it simply wicks away moisture during activities.

Do you have anything in the quarter zip shirts. I need at least an 18 or 20. Maybe also a 2xl.  Thank you very much.  Carolyn Price

I have a question similar to Statsoprano's: Could you get in the water in this shirt, say for wind-or body-surfing or even just hanging out in a pool? Is it chlorine- and salt-resistant?

Asked by: hollingj
You can wear this top in water environments but it does not offer any water protection. Should you wear it in chlorine or salt water, we recommend washing it shortly thereafter.

What is the length of this shirt from the back of the neck seam to the bottom of the shirt? I am 5'2", and short-waisted, so many of the shirts are too long for me. They are too tight over my hips. It's nearly impossible to find petite running clothes.

Asked by: Runjenn
This shirt measures 25.5 inches from the back collar to the bottom of the shirt. This measurement was taken in a size medium so the length may be slightly different depending on the size you are ordering.
