pleasantly surprised
When i got this home and opened it up i was skeptical of its performance because of its thickness. Normally machetes are quite thin allowing then to be more of a speed tool. Slicing through smaller things and branches. This thing is thick. I almost returned it. Thankfully i did not because i and quite impressed with its performance. It does not need the swing speed or size of a regular machete. Its weight is perfect and i has chopping through branches up to an inch and a half thick with one swing. Later in the night i used a small sledge to split wood with it. Made perfect kindling pounding the blade through the wood with the hammer.
What a Machete
I just got this Machete thinking it was just another light wt. Machete. I could not have been more wrong. This is not a Machete, it is a chopper. It was not what I was expecting, but pleasantly surprised. This Machete will do a lot of jobs while in the wilderness. Just don't get between the wood and the Machete because it can cause a lot of damage. It has a nice grip and the blade is sturdy and heavy. No clearing the light stuff with this bruiser. I can't wait to give it the test. I highly recommend this Machete for the multi-tool functions.
Art of the machete
I was looking for a hiking machete for sometime now. Thinking i would need a custom made machete to get something of quality. Gerber has out done themselves with this one. Not available in my local REI, so I ordered from the online store. Shipping to store was very quick and packaged well. The sheath is nylon and riveted edge. 2 d-rings are incorporate into the belt loop strap. A wrap around Velcro retainer for the hand guard to keep the machete in place securely. Blade came sharp with no burrs, scratches or dings. Handle is a plastic base with a rubber for the grip portion and a tether cord. I highly recommend it's use because the blade is heavy and if you are sweaty or wet than this bad boy is going flying. Over all very happy with it and hope to have it for years.
This machete is a doer!
I have had this machete going on two years now and it just will not quit! I used it just a week ago in NM to chop a nine inch diameter tree trunk into four logs for the fire. It was two o'clock in the morning and my camping partner was too cold to sleep so I grabbed to gerber and went to work. Let's just say I was back in my sack and cozy in about thirty minutes, this blade is great!
Now this is a knife!
Finally got to use my Gerber Gator Machette and was impressed. This was a solid and sturdy cutting tool and made short order of the under brush between me and my tree for putting up a deer stand. My one wish would be that it include a saw element on top of the blade.
What a suprise!!!!
With out question the best malachite I have ever owned. I have owned many in the last 45 years. The weight, balance, and grip, is the first one I have ever trusted with my life.
