[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've tried on a few bags around the 70-75L range from Osprey and Black Diamond on multi-day backpacking trips and so far this one is my favorite for fit and best weight distribution/suspension system. I carry on average 40+ pounds on my trips and have noticed how much more comfortable my Gregory Deva 70 pack is on my back than other packs. Other convenient features I really appreciate are: - the side pocket for actual ease of removing a 32oz water bottle without having to take my pack off - the plethora of front / side pockets for stashing various items - U-shaped front zipper to open up the entire inside of the bag instead of having to top-load - large zipper loop design that make it easy to access different parts of the pack - sturdy back support - included rain cover I only have a few critiques for what I wish for that would make it perfect: - better colors for women (I really like the men's colors) - a keychain loop inside one of the top compartments and a small zippered money pocket for safekeeping the important stuff - maybe a couple external daisy chains to carabiner stuff to - perhaps having an integrated daypack as the pack's brain Full disclosure: I received this product as a gift in exchange for a review, but these are my own words and honest opinion and I would 100% recommend the pack. After a couple of trips I'm already confident that it's the best amongst the packs I own and I've already sold off the rest. I love the Deva 70 and it's definitely a keeper for me! #giftedproduct
So far, brought this on a 22 mile overnight hike and really loaded it up. I loved how despite being 75L capacity, it tightens up to hold smaller quantities super tightly and didn't at all feel overly bulky. I had plenty of small storage for snacks, the hip pockets were large enough for my phone and snacks (larger than the men's hip pockets on the last Gregory model - my Bf could not fit his phone) and the water bottle pouch was very convenient. I may have been missing something, but couldn't find a place to super well strap my poles in, but i improvised and it was adequate. Ultimately you can make the hip straps SUPER tight and they stay put, distribute the pressure, and feel very sturdy. The pack is suspended completely off of your lower back and feels very stable to walk with. Will hopefully use this for a long time!
This backpack is amazing. So comfortable, so many pockets, and kept my things cool and dry. I stuffed this pack to its limit a few times with over 60lbs of gear and tools in every compartment and strapped to the outside. It lasted being used everyday for six months with nothing breaking or wearing out. Even after it was accidentally run over by my foreman's audi, everything inside survived (including my water bladder!), and I was able to bend the frame back most of the way to functional again. The Deva is worth every penny, especially if you're in need of a big pack that fits a small build like I needed.
Traveling through 3 major countries in Europe . This Gregory 70 liter back pack did not disappoint. It was sturdy , comfortable, flexible with plenty of pockets for all necessities during a long term travel . I can truly say that I can not wait to use this back pack on my next travel adventure. L. This is my second Deva - the first one lasted years and well over 1500 miles. You can't go wrong with this pack. The padding makes even heavy loads easy to carry and I love the articulating shoulder straps that move with you. I like the deep pockets on the hip belt for stashing lots of snacks and the slightly tilted water bottle pockets make it easy to get a bottle in and out without taking the pack off (but make sure the lids are tight or you will get some dripping). Another pro is that the geometry easily fits a bear canister - a lot of packs are too narrow to accommodate one but the Deva holds my BearVault 500 with room to pack around it. Only con: these used to come with an attached rainfly. That seems to have gone away in the 2023 models. Not a huge issue but make sure to buy a separate cover
Got this pack in May and have taken it out on three trips so far; had plenty of room for a 7 night trip. I love it so much. I was weirded out by the asymmetric water bottle holders but on the trail they were perfect for keeping track of which Nalgene had Nuun or was still being purified. Two features I was hoping would be included but I had to buy separately: rain fly, and a stuffable daypack (recommend Osprey Ultralight stuff pack). Giant wonderful hip pockets. Easy to adjust. Simple, thoughtfully designed, comfortable and tough.
I've used this pack for two backpacking trips so far and absolutely love it! I have used a lot of different packs and honestly, none have been as comfortable as this one. I carry a lot of extras (games for camp, fun food, etc.) and it has never hurt my back or hips. I sometimes forget I'm even wearing it! The little bottle pocket that comes out of the side is perfect for drinking water while hiking and the big front zipper is a total game-changer. I'm stoked for my next backpacking trip.
Love all the pockets! Easy to organize your stuff. Top pack is so big! Great for food and camera stuff. I love all the pull tabs in the zippers.
It's a great pack! Very comfortable even with a heavy load. It moves with you. Definitely love it. Very practical with its sections to have everything well organized and available when needed.
I was recently rocking an REI trail made 60 I got a couple years ago in the resupply. I scored havasupai tickets this year and wanted to treat myself to a bag with all the bells and whistles. I loooooove this bag the color, the feel, the room all of it is amazing! So looking forward to putting this to the test I’ve heard nothing but great things about Gregory! I am plus size so I was worried about this fit as REI is more size inclusive but it’s perfect.
