I bought this pack 6 months ago and have used it on several backpacking trips. This is the first backpack I've ever purchased, but not the first I've ever used. I absolutely love this pack, it is everything that I could ever ask for. Every time I use it I find something new about it that I've not used yet. There are so many compartments to store different gear, loops for ice axes, the brain can be removed and used as a large fanny pack which is great for a summit hike. I think my favorite feature of this pack is the little daypack that comes with it, called the "sidekick". It's an excellent pack for numerous different things. It's not the traditional daypack that has several compartments and a hipbelt, but it does the job and it does it quite well. I've taken this pack on small day hikes in East Texas, used it for school for some small books, and I've even taken it to Brazil (as pictured below) for some small day hikes that I did. It can fit a rainjacket, one or maybe two nalgenes, and some other small pieces of gear. The daypack also has a pocket that you can put your money, identification, and phone in. The straps are also adjustable on the daypack as well. The pack itself is great in some many ways, I tried on a couple other packs when going to purchase this one and they didn't feel right on my hips. I am 5'5 and 180 pounds, so I am a little heavy for my size. This pack feel perfect on my hips, no rubbing or extra movement if you know how to adjust it properly -- ask your REI specialist for help on this, like how to tighten straps, adjust chest and waist straps, etc. I love that this pack is adjustable in so many ways -- I can remove the daypack out of the backpack or keep it in as an additional water bladder holder. I personally took out the separator between the bottom and middle of the pack because I felt it gave me more space, but it's excellent in order to keep your sleeping back separate from your other gear. The rain cover is excellent as well, mine is pink which is really cute and it kind of sets you apart from other backpackers -- I sometimes enjoy when it rains just so I can sport the pink cover (but then again, I love cute gear whenever possible because that's not always a possibility). There's a great pocket on the waist belt that you can put your camera, phone or anything you don't want to get wet into, it is completely waterproof. There are many clips and loops to put things onto like your water shoes, bandanna, or a lantern. The only reservation I have about this pack is that the water bottle compartment that is not part of the pack -- the one that is more shaped for a water bottle, is difficult to reach unlike what it is supposed to be. Most packs that I've used, I have to ask a peer to get my bottle for me so the idea of not having to do that was pretty appealing, but alas I still cannot reach it. Other than that small detail, I love this pack! I definitely recommend it! It will be a pack for life honestly, until I notice a change in pack technology, I won't buy a new one!
I love all the different ways to put everything into and access my stuff from this bag. You are able to load this pack from the top but also unzip the front and quick access a sleeping bag on the bottom. I appreciated that I could keep a few smaller items on the top and have easy access to everything. I used this bag for the first time in SE Asia a few weeks ago, It was comfortable, for reference I'm 5'11, and very easy to set the straps. It is also the little extra that I really like, the rain cover, the water bottle holder and small zipper belt compartment made it easy to stash stuff quickly and get it when I needed. Really happy with this bag.
My husband bought me this and I love it! I also had the old version and love it. It truly floats on my hips and handles weight well. I have a short frame but a little heavy for my height. I need the hip belts to go around me a little more. I still wish they would make the shoulder straps more narrow. The new version has more narrow shoulder straps than the old version did but they are still too wide for me. I'm big busted and the straps rub the inside of my arms. I wish they had a way to order more narrow straps separately especially for big busted gals. :)
I was fitted for this pack at REI and thought it was amazing at first. I still think that the look, capacity, storage options, and compartments are great. However, as a person without much natural padding on my hip bones, sacrum, and clavicle, it turned out to be horrible. It chafed so badly that it wore through my skin in those places on a recent trek. I highly discourage thin women from purchasing this pack (the hip belt also doesn’t cinch enough for women with narrow waists). Now I only use the bonus pack, which is nice, but not worth $300.
I bought this backpack with the intent on using it very often so comfort was a top priority. The very first trip I took it on it rained the majority of the time, proving that the rain cover works very well. I was also hiking uphill at high altitudes so it was a great plus that the bag was able to "move with my hips." I also found that the divided brain was a plus for organization. I am a petite person so the hip belt was my main concern when I bought it because it looked so big and bulky. I was very surprised that this actually helped fit me better. The padding on the back is not overwhelmingly big but it helps fit the weight to the persons hips and lower back more. After a hard 6 day trip hiking 8-12 miles a day, I think this pack easily fit all of my belongings as well as was very comfortable! Great pack for anyone who is looking for one that will hold up with hard use!
I am so in love with this pack!! This was my third try at getting the right pack and I am so glad I returned the others and found this one. My arms don’t rub on these hip belt pockets (as they did on other packs) and once I got the load cinched tight on the top of the pack, it was amazing. I struggled this first 7 miles until I realized the load tightening straps weren’t tight. I love the color combination, the water bottle pocket and the day bag that doubles as the water bladder pocket. I cannot wait to get out and do more with this pack!
I love this pack, and just about anything Gregory! I love the fact that it is not a TALL pack like Osprey. I can put my head back and look up! I got the XS/S and its perfect for me. I am 5'3'', 130 pounds and am able to carry 40 pounds comfortably.
I recently took this pack on a two week trek through the Himalayas. I was concerned about my back due to the normal everyday pains I get. I bought this pack because of the lumbar support and how it distributes the weights on the hips. I was carrying about 30 pounds of weigh daily for up to 7 hours a day. This pack was perfect. It actually helped keep my back in line and reduced unnecessary pain. RECOMMEND 100%
I love this pack. My first pack I bought off of someone. I'm 5'3" and this pack makes everything way lighter.
I researched top hiking backpacks for three different years and tried them all on, with weight, inside the REI store. This pack blew all of the others out of the water, for me. It was the comfiest for my wide hips. I'm 5'8", 180 lbs., with a curvy build. This has been on 5 backpacking trips with me so far. Never fails!
