Do not hold up to trekking pole use.
I used these gloves on two trips totaling around 10 days and they developed large holes where the gloves contact the hiking poles. If your use involves trekking poles I would not recommend these gloves.
Use to prevent age spots on the back of my hands
I purchased these to wear while I am driving to keep the sun off the back of my hands. They are working great and also the light weight leather on palm side of the gloves make them double as driving gloves because my hands don't slip on the steering wheel. Have also used them on my walks, again to keep the sun off my hands. They are light weight and have not made my hands feel hot.
100% Protection from Sun
I absolutely love these for hiking when it's not only hot outside but when it's sunny. I also use them for long distance driving as well. I live in Las Vegas (desert) and it's important to protect your entire body from the sun's harmful UVA/UVB Ray's. Most importantly, my hands don't sweat in these when it's blistering hot outside due to the ventilation on the palm side of the glove. You may get a weird look or two but who the heck cares. As the owner of a lot of Outdoor Research products, they never let me down and I always trust in their products. Highly recommend.
So far so good...
Bought a pair a month ago because I have to protect myself from sun and dislike using sunscreen if I can avoid it. These gloves are fairly expensive and I worried that they might be hot to wear but I took a gamble on them and thing they have been excellent so far. And added advantage is the ventilated leather-like material on the palm and inner fingers--great for when climbing on rough rock or avoiding blisters when using hiking poles. (I have previously used those inexpensive neon-colored construction gloves with the rubberized gripping surfaces, which are great to have in the pack, but the OR sun gloves are cooler to wear and probably provide better sun protection because the fabric is a tighter weave.) The gloves are well constructed from quality materials. They feel like they will last if not abused.
Excellent Gloves
I want to shield my hands (and the rest of my body) from the sun but am worried about adding heat/warmth. These gloves are perfect. In addition to blocking the sun. they made it better to grab rocks and scramble on a desert hike. The palm provides great ventilation, I do not think they added any warmth or stuffiness. I only wish they had other colors...
Comfortable lightweight gloves
I like wearing gloves while hiking for three reasons... 1. Keep out the sun 2. Keep out mosquitos 3. I always use hiking poles, and gloves allow for comfortable long grasp of the poles.
They live up to the hype
So I bought these not really knowing if a glove could make my hands feel cold when its hot out. Too my amazement, they totally do. I wore these on the lower glacier for two Denali expeditions and when it was brutal sunny and I was wearing a buff over my face, sun hoody, shades and everything, these gloves were on and occasionally my hands felt cold! It was kind of bizarre at first. They are ripping and wearing out after about 10-14 days of heavy use which is a bummer, but most liners don't last long. I do enjoy the fact they work with a touchscreen most of the time. I probably wouldn't use these for anything else other than walking on a glacier when the death star is trying to kill me with its rays.
Seams are bothersome
My pair has noticeable seam on the inside of the gloves. Not a deal breaker but it would be nice if they were more like my Marmot Connect Active Gloves. Not sure I would buy again because of seams.
Huge disappointment
I purchased this gloves for hiking 9 days JMT in June because the product description says "UPF 50+ ultraviolet protection". The UPF didn't work. I wore long sleeves hiking shirts and this gloves 9 days straight, went home with very dark/tan hands. Very disappointed.
Good gloves - Not great for biking
I've worn these for scorcher hikes with limited shade and tried them as biking (mountain and road) last summer. I love the cooling effect and the material choice. I do, however, have consistent problems with chafing at the base of my thumb while riding as the handlebar of both road and mountain bikes cross along the seam and work away at your hands. This isn't immediately noticeable but becomes problematic as ride length increases over about the hour mark. If the design was adjusted, these would be my go-to summer riding gloves.
