Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

High Performance at 50 bucks, not 150 bucks
I looked at a lot of choices before going with the REI Adventures Pants. I checked all the Big names. All had Big performance features. All were Big on bells-and-whistles. They were also BIG on price tag. As for these pants the fit, both waist and length, is dead on. The cut is both stylish and functional. The fabric is smooth to the touch, dries fast. The pockets are okay and where they're supposed to be. I've walked all day in them and been comfortable every step. I've worn them in the driving rain and stayed comfortable. I rate their performance as high. Their value as exceptionally high. Their price tag as low.
Add boots for hiking or a blazer for dinner!
Like Thoreau, I'm wary of all enterprises that require new clothes. I always look for a single item that can handle every situation and these pants fit the bill. I have two pairs plus three pairs of the corresponding shorts. They are lightweight, comfortable, wrinkle free and stain resistant. They have a clean, neat look so I can wear them to a nice restaurant, party or outdoor client event after a day of hiking or touring. I've even worn them to work with loafers and a blazer. I hike a lot and travel frequently and appreciate the fact that they can be quickly washed in a hotel bathroom sink and they will be dry (and wrinkle-free) by morning allowing me to pack light. These are the only pants I take on long trips.
Needs 1 inch waist size increments
For the past 8 years I have used two pair of REI travel pants. They are a bit worn now and I thought it time to update. I like the design changes: good-looking material, only one side-leg zippered pocket, an internal zippered pocket, a change pocket, and slightly slimmer in the hips. But I really need a 31 inch waist, and for some reason REI offers only 30, 32, 34, etc. Also, I would like slightly deeper pockets that would hold a smart phone and other items more securely.
Excellent travel pants, just as they say
Wore these to a recent trip to Iceland. On the plane, comfy and light. In the town, looking great with casual street wear. On the trail, covered in mud and rain, the wind then dried them off and removed the mud! After being behind a waterfall, they were soaked! My softshell was worse. 10 minutes in winds ~40mph and they were bone dry. Stayed wrinkle free, clean, and comfortable the entire trip. As for the pant themselves, I wish both back pockets were zippered - I carry my wallet on the left and only the right is zippered. The left front pocket has an interior zipped pocket which is nice. For me, the pockets were plenty deep enough. The pocket on the mid right leg is useless to me. Wish they made it without that, as it looks odd.
Crazy Comfortable
These adventure pants are just what the doctor ordered for urban adventures. I already have 2 pairs of zip-off (convertible to shorts) cargo pants in quick-drying nylon. But I really felt that I needed some pants that had the same comfort and quick-drying, easy care, advantages, but that I could wear to work or to go out to dinner. These are they!. Crazy comfortable, easy care, and sharp looking to boot. I got the asphalt color, which is really more greenish than it looks onscreen. It's a great color; good with greens, rust, and blues.
Comfortable. Fabric more attractive in some colors
As with most REI pants I have owned, I find the waist sizes to be a bit smaller and the lengths to be a bit longer than in other brands. While i wear a 32 (size) waist in most brands of jeans, casual and technical pants, that size is too small for comfort in these pants. Wearable, but not comfortable. Which leads me to my only complaint: Why no 33? I bought 32's initially out of vanity, but had to bite the bullet and move up to a 34 which is clearly too large. I can almost slide them off over my hips (but I guess that's what belts are for). I ended up buying the gold, tan and blue. I did not like the look of the grey and asphalt. Those two colors looked too much like nylon rain pants whereas I can wear the gold pair to work and people think I have on cotton khakis. You could easily pair them with a blazer for a dressier evening while travelling. I never saw the red in person. All three pair I own shrug off wrinkles and dry quickly. They are great pants for urban and airline travel. They seem a little lightweight for hiking, but being a native Houstonian, I am loathe to hike anywhere that I can't wear shorts anyway. Hope this review provided some valuable information for online shoppers who can't see these pants in person and try them on.
Tight Thighs and Pockets
The fit is loose over the calves and crotch, but tight through the thighs, and it feels vaguely like the waist is riding too low, which make these pants uncomfortable in general. If you carry a wallet or keys, they make the pants bulge awkwardly and pocketed items seem to cut into your legs. On a hot day it's torture. The right back pocket is zippered, either to deter wallet thieves or to keep the back pocket from sagging under the weight of anything you put in it. It's a pain to unzip when you need your wallet. There is a zippered phone pocket, but it's a tight squeeze and you end up with another weird bulge in your leg that grinds against you as you move. Ugh, where are my Kuhl pants?
Excellent travel pants, but...
These are excellent travel pants, lightweight, quick dry and comfortable. They have some nice features like the zippered inside pocket to stash valuables (like emergency cash). The textile is different from the previous versions, but they pick up lint like a lint brush. So after a day of wearing these pants and sitting around (like on an airplane), you could be packing some serious lint
Fit for the skinny-fat
The fit is wrong. REI Adventures pants have been my go-to for years, but the new fit is wrong. I like the new pocket positions; the crotch gusset is great; I liked the old "peached" material better. But the killer is the new cut. The 34" fits my waist, but it is way too tight through the hips and thighs. If I step up to the 36" waist it fits like a hula hoop. I'm not a body builder. I shouldn't have this problem. I thought REI's target customer would have leg muscles, but these are fit for Parisian runway models.
Good but Not Great
This is a good and useful pair of pants that I bought primarily for travel. It has three zippered pockets for wallet security. I think three improvements are in order. First, it would be good if the left pocket zipper closed by zipping down rather than up. Second, the right back zippered pocket would be more convenient if it were on the left. And finally, it would be helpful if the front pockets were a little deeper. My iPhone 6 lives in my right front pocket and it be good if that pocket were an inch deeper.
