good but hard to put on
I like the functionality but getting the rubber strap over the rear of the snowshoe takes a lot of strength, not sure if out in the back-country and tired that I everyone would be up for this. I also worry about breaking the strap as it has to be pulled so hard.

They tilt your feet
They do provide extra flotation, but only at the back end. So, wearing these tails was like walking on high heels. I returned them.

Modularity

If you ponied up for the lightning, these give you the flexibility to take it further without having to wear the full size when you don't need it. Being able to support more weight for larger packs or deeper snow, they really come in handy.

Added Floatation

Just used my lightning tails for the first time today. They worked great and stayed firmly attached in new deep powder, on a well beaten path as well as when we summited and crossed crusty drifts where we periodically broke through. I am very happy with them. Although I feel like they kept me a little higher in the deep stuff, I don't feel like they made a huge difference but hey, I think my Lightning Ascents do a phenomenal job by themselves. No complaints there. I am pretty light so I don't sink to deep anyway. I do think that when I use my backpack with some weight these will make a difference. Overall they seem well built, they stay firmly attached and are easily put on and taken off.

Good, but

Unless you are in a lot of power these just make it harder. Well made and the fit is great. Easy to put on and take off. Just make sure you get them for the right reason. They were too bothersome for the conditions I snowshow in.

Just the ticket

My 8 year old lightning ascents fell apart on me this winter, but I liked them so much I bought the new style shoes along with tails. I could not be happier! Super light and quick. The new style bindings are a breeze to put on - take off and very secure. The tails also work great and are a snap to attach.

Not for older 2 Toe Strap Lightning Snowshoes

Tails will not work with the old ""2 toe strap style"" Lightnings that I bought several years ago. Frames of newer Lightnings are notched to accept the tails. The old shoes are still working fine but would be nice to have more float on deep powder.

Simple Solution

I received these, but unfortunately I have been unable to use them since the snowshoes were on backorder and the snow season has ended. So I can only provide a four star rating at this time. However, the design looks simple and should work well.

Ingenious!

I am right in between snowshoe sizes depending on if I am carrying a pack so these make a smaller snowshoes perfect as I can add them on quickly when needed.

The Best snowshoe accessory ever made!!

Well designed and engineered. Great to have the versatility of a larger snowshoe when needed, and a shorter snowshoe when day hiking. MSR leading the way!
