Good for people looking to get back to camping...

This tent was a purchase made to go camping again after about 20 years. I'd consider myself a beginner, and with the help of the REI employee nearby this was the recommended tent. (We went car camping.) All I can say is that it was supremely comfortable, easy to set up, and stores even easier.

I bought this tent this spring to accommodate my growing family. It is certainly spacious. Easily sleeps 4. The setup was really simple as I expected, nothing really complicated about it. The vestibule is really nice for gear storage etc. however it does make getting in and out of the tent a little difficult. If it's raining you really want to get inside the vestibule and then zip it up behind you before opening the main door but this can be difficult in the limited space. My main issue with the tent is the rain fly. It works about as well as you should expect for the price but I was still a bit disappointed. Any place where your body or sleeping bag or anything comes in contact with it, you can expect some seepage. I was also disappointed that the fly didn't have loops or built in gromets around the bottom edges to allow them to be staked out away from the main body of the tent. This is critical as the floor of the tent is not water proof either so any water that sheds down the side of the fly and under the tent will eventually make its way up through the floor. Overall I think I'm happy with the product for the price. I will be making a few mods to improve it's performance, perhaps Kelty should do the same.

Great for car camping in the rain

Just got this tent last week and used it once to go car camping in Shenandoah for a couple days. Setting up was simple and intuitive. The first night it rained nonstop and there were no leaks at all. Encountered no issues with ventilation since I didn't really spend anytime in the tent when the sun was out, however I'd imagine that removing the rain fly (which is very easy to remove) would solve that problem. As far as the size, we just had 2 of us in the tent but I could easily see another 2 people fitting in no problem assuming packs were kept outside.

Dry

Bought this tent b/c I had a friend going and 2 of us would not fit in my tent. This worked out great, kept us dry in a downpour, was easy to set up and take down. The vestibule is very roomy. I felt like I was in mansion compared to my other tent. It will sleep 4 without gear inside. I can see 3 people in it with limited gear. By biggest complaint about this tent is that there is not a footprint available for it. We used a painter drop cloth and it worked just fine, but would rather have had a footprint specifically for this tent.

Kelty Discovery 4 Tent Works For Me

I have used this tent twice since I purchased in October. Once for camping in Death Valley when we had warm temperatures but a night of wind, rainfall and thunder and lightening storm. It weathered well and was comfortable throughout. The second time was most recently camping for 4 nights to celebrate the New Year in Joshua Tree when temps at night dropped to about 25 degrees F. This is a three season tent but with the proper sleeping bag I was comfortable and had no problem sleeping. It is simple to set up and stores perfectly in its bag when not in use. I recommend this tent. It works for me!

withstood a storm beautifully!

Just back from camping along the Upper Missouri River. This tent withstood hail, driving winds and rain for an entire night. When we got back to civilisation, we found out we had been camping three miles from what was thought to be a tornado. And we were bone dry in this little tent. I would say, the only only negative which I find with most tents, is that it is a little small for four. We used it for three people and it was perfect, warm, dry and comfortable. I would recommend it.

Good bargain tent for car camping

Picked up this tent to make our car camping trips more comfortable (we had been using a small 2-person backpacking tent for years). Comparatively, this thing is huge. More than enough room for two people, a 70 lb dog, and some gear. I could easily see 4 people fitting comfortably. After using it a couple times, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Obviously there are nicer car camping tents out there, but for the price this one will do just fine. Pros: Good price. Set up is simple and straightforward. Decent construction quality. Very roomy with an ok vestibule. The included stuff sack is plenty big enough for repacking, even with a tarp thrown in as a groundcloth. Cons: Ventilation could be an issue on hot/humid nights (all of the mesh is high up, so with the rainfly on there is very little crossflow). Rainfly fits loosely, even with guy lines attached (if it's windy, you're going to hear it flapping all night). No available footprint, you'll have to be old fashioned and use a tarp.

Not godd ventalation

I bought a Kelly 4 man tent. Set up was very easy. But if you put on and use the rain fly there is no ventilation system. Positives are ease of set up and kept us bone dry. Negatives are very poor ventilation. Very warm. Not a good summer tent. For the money I spent I will probably return it.

Great tent, truly a 5-minute setup.

Took this tent on a 60-day cross-country road-trip, and the tent did the job! Great value. Performance: -We experienced several bad and heavy rainstorms with this tent, and the fly did its job, no rain leaked through. -The 4-person tent slept the two of us quite comfortably (2 adults). 3 adults would be snug, and I wouldn't want to sleep 4 adults in here. But as with all tents, you should buy a larger tent size than your actual party. -This is not an "ultra-lite" tent, the ceramic poles are pretty heavy, the tent bag is larger, and the tent does not pack down that small. This tent is best suited for car-camping or base-camping, not backpacking. Set-up: -Rather than most tents, the tent attaches to the support poles by clipping the tent to the poles, rather than having to snake and feed the poles through tent loops, a DEFINITE TIME SAVER. By the 3rd time we set the tent up, we did so easily within 5 minutes. This tent can also be setup by 1-person, but takes more like 7 or 8 minutes. Positive surprises: -Unlike other tents, this tent bag is actually over-sized, which makes packing the tent items very pain free. No more struggling to pack a tent away exactly right to fit into the stupid bag! -The tent comes with loops on the ceiling interior to attach lanterns, lights, cellphones, or anything else with a carabiner. -The tent has an all-mesh ceiling, so if you keep the fly off, you get a great view of the stars before bed (bug-free!). -When the tent fly is attached, the door opening juts out farther than the base of the tent, creating a small entryway that is great for keeping your boots, firewood, or other gear dry without having to actually bring it into the tent. Downside: -I gave this tent only 4 stars because the tent fly does not ventilate very well. The fly snaps directly onto the 4 base corners of the tent, making for a very snug fit. Consequently, with the fly on, the tent does not get much airflow. This can lead to condensation buildup on the inside of the tent ceiling (from your breath while sleeping), which can lead to dampness or mildew. Or in warmer weather, makes the tent itself very hot and stuffy. Obviously you can just keep the fly off, but not very good when you're expecting rain. To counteract this, we would leave a corner of the fly unclipped and folded back over on itself, exposing the tent to allow airflow, preventing any condensation buildup. (We would just quickly flip the fly over for surprise rain showers.)

comfortable car camping for 2 adults

Tried it at Manressa beach campground to watch persieds couple of weeks go. Very comfortable and spacious for 2 adults. It very easy to set up. Our previous tent had condensation inside in the morning, but this one kept us dry and warm all night and morning. Wish the fly extended out a bit in front of the tent door....otherwise perfect
