Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much better than any other lantern! This was purchased for my wife for her in the field nights in the backcountry. After searching for a light weight replacement for our dual fuel Coleman lantern we chose this. I do not know why rei does not stock.this light in their stores! Well built with great light output puts those other led lights to shame. Buy this one not the other plastic flimsy pieces of junk, you will be happy with the purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for inside tents When needing a light inside your tent, this lantern is perfect; no headlamps only illuminating where you're looking, no worry about burns/melts from fuel lanterns, no loss of oxygen. It's just bright enough, not blinding and not weak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! This light is great on campouts. It is lightweight, easy to use, charging cord is attached and secured when not in use. I also use it around the house when working in the attic or on my truck. It is a sturdy enough design to pack in a box with my other camping gear and not be damaged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Vintage Feeling I finally got my Nickel colored lantern and then I see they have an oiled bronze look. I would have probably rather had that color, but I love this little lantern. It has a very vintage look and the body is all metal just like the old lanterns. But then it runs on modern tech. The knob switch is a dimmer so you can leave it on low and it seems to run a long time. Plus I love that it will charge my phone! It seems very durable and looks much nicer than many other plastic LED lights.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright enough I bought this for two purposes. First, for camping and second, for home use during power outages. I did not want something extremely bright because it annoys camping neighbors but I did want something that can stand up to a little rain if needed. This is rated IPX4 which isn't great but it should be able to handle a light rain but probably not a driving rain like in a hurricane. It does well indoors though - lights up an entire room enough so you can see where you're going. Pretty nice for the price in my opinion. Recharges fairly fast too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for a smaller tent Used this item with our 6 person Cabela's Alaskan Guide (fairly spacious tent 6'3 in the middle). There was enough battery to last us two evenings, maybe around 4-5 hours in total on the highest setting. For the size of the tent overall brightness was not ideal if attached at the highest point of the tent, it was a little hard on the eyes to read or play cards. After readjusting this item closer to where we needed it to be it was perfect. The light it self was sort of yellowish, relaxing and kind of intimate, especially if not used on the highest setting. We did not have any issues with duality/durability of the product. We did not use it to recharge any of the USB compatible devices, not sure how it would affect the battery life. Overall, i would recommend this item, as it performed well when relatively close to the activity (around 3ft). One might want to look for a brighter one if intends to use a main light source at the highest point of the tent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wouldn't charge first time out of box I picked this up in store the night before a camping trip. I liked this option because it was rechargeable and didn't require batteries. I intended to purchase the optional solar charger at some point but sadly it won't be necessary. I got it home and plugged it in overnight. The next morning I noticed that the charging indicator light was still blinking on the second of four lights. I tried two different outlets to make sure it wasn't bad wiring in the first oulet, but no dice. So I took it on the camping trip anyway because it was too late to get anything else and I figured that maybe the lantern would function properly even if the charging lights were faulty. I turned it on once it got dark and set it to the low setting since I would need it all weekend and it was out of juice withing 20 minutes. Very disappointing, especially since I see all of the glowing reviews from other users. I must have gotten the lemon. But that's why I shop at REI, it's going back tomorrow...

Can I recharge the lantern from the 12V 'cigarette lighter' with a USB converter/plug-in in my car? The wall charger is OK, but what about extended camping trips with no 110V outlet...?

Asked by: PabloGrande54
Yes, you can recharge the unit from a 12V socket with the use of a car usb charger (12V to USB).

Can the lithium battery be removed? I ask for 2 reasons: 1. I'd like to be able to remove and place in carry on luggage, packing the lantern in checked luggage. 2. I'd like to know if they are replaceable.

Asked by: Steve Likes Soup
The rechargeable battery cannot be removed from the Forest lantern. Barebones does not offer replaceable batteries.
