all-around helmet system
Needed a helmet for the New River Trail Challenge on September 20 and wanted to improve on my current helmet. I was using a youth snow sports helmet for skiing, kayaking and mountain biking. Time to replace and upgrade. Bern worked out very well. Because I was buying off the REI Outlet to save some $$, it took a couple of tries to get the fit perfect. Once I did, I was able wear this Brentwood during the 12-mile kayak leg and ride my bike back to my van with no discomfort at all. Sweat pads worked great at keeping my eyes clear, liked the visor that came with the shell. Next purchase will be the winter liner and if that works I will change my review to 5 stars.
great helmet, but try it on first!
I bought this maybe a month ago and am loving this helmet. For reference, I'm 6'1" and I measured my noggin at about 24-25" around, and the XXL size fits fine. It's snug, though - I keep my hair pretty short (1" at the longest), so someone with longer or bigger hair may find it a tight fit. The other Bern helmet is a more spacious inside but doesn't use the same Zip Mold liner and so is bigger on your head. As it is, though, it's a great option for people with big heads. Worth spending the extra cash over a cheaper helmet.
Looks good but a little warm.
I definitely am a big fan of how this helmet looks. Sizing wasn't to bad but I couldn't believe I was an XXL-XXXL. Make sure to measure your head and check the chart. My only complaint is that despite getting a white helmet it still feels a bit warmer than my old helmet, especially in the forehead area. Not sure if I will be getting the winter liner come winter or not, I guess time will tell. Overall, a good helmet if you are tired of the space age helmet look.
Great helmet but
This is a great helmet but the brim is too low and the helmet does not allow you to push the brim up. Also the brim becomes discolored after one ride. I tried to clean it with a damp cloth but the stains return. Anyway I had to order the summer liner that does not have the brim. Also I think the additional liners should come with are offered as an option. I would say allow the customer decide which liner to purchase with the helmet. Things I like is the fact that for its size it is nice and light. Has plenty of length on the chin strap. You can change out the liners which means the helmet will last longer unlike other helmets that when their liners wear out you toss the helmet. I can use this helmet for other sports besides cycling.
Great helmet
I bought this helmet for when riding on my Single Gear. I wanted something stylish to go along. The helmet is great and comfortable. They run a bit small, so try one on before you buy it.
Older reviews are wrong
Two of the reviews from 2 years ago must be for a different version. The brim of the visor does flip up (as shown in the pictures.) So riding a road bike in the drops is not a problem.
Solid Helmet
This is a solid helmet, however, there are a couple of things to note. This may be obvious but this helmet is not meant for road bikes (fine with Urban bikes or any bike that allows you to be in a more up-right position while riding). Also, you can get different accessories for this helmet, like built in head phones but they are a bit pricey.
Big Heads Rejoice!
While I haven't worn the helmet on a ride yet, I'm very pleased with the purchase. The look is exactly as shown in the photos, and the quality seems good. The xxl/xxxl fits my size 8 noggin perfectly without any mods. I'm hoping the performance is as good as the look and fit.
Not sure.
I bicycle to work 3 days each week. I also take in longer rides on the weekends. I wear this helmet all of the time. Why is it not rated higher? It's not big enough for my massive noggin (even though it was an XXXL) and when the visor is folded up. the hat size actually gets a little smaller, leaving a deep red line on my forehead.
Great low profile helmet
After years of bareheaded riding it was time to start wearing so protection. Are trying many helmets i found this one. I woas looking for something low profile and this one fit the bill nicely. As other posters noted it runs on the small size but that was ok as it fit my head nicely without any undue pressure. All in all i would say a solid helmet buy
