Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mountain House Assorted I bought these for backpacking and did not need the plastic bucket. It is confusing because they say 29 servings. That is not 29 individual packages of food. Really not that much cheaper than buying the individual packages and getting exactly what you are seeking in flavors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy product anytime! I purchased 1 Classic & 1 Essential buckets from Emergency Essentials when they first came out around 2013. I ordered early in the month to try out the different flavors of MH entrees (first-time to eat MH); ended up ordering 15 buckets each before the end of that month (fantastic sale)! This is a handy product to have around as a prepper, but also as a single person when I just don't feel like cooking dinner after a hard day at work. Also better nutritionally than a so-called "value meal" from fast food restaurant (though the salt content is too high to eat on a daily basis). I gave a few to a disabled friend to try out (he cannot stand up long enough to make entrees like lasagna, etc.), and he ended up ordering quite a few too! I highly recommend MH products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Please be aware... I purchased this item because we (my team and I) do a lot of overnight outdoor paranormal investigations. Please be aware that these ARE NOT individual packages. The description of this item is a bit confusing so it makes a person think that a serving is in each package and that isn't the case. Each package is "About 2 1/2 servings" and the granola package contains "2 servings". The product itself is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Calorie to Weight Benefit For those of us who love the MRE, the Mount House actually have 400 more calories for three meals but under a pound, where the MRE is about one pound for 1250 calories per unit. Most relevant reason is the MRE contains water. Obvious bonus to the MRE for low water areas, but for well watered areas; the freeze dried have the upper hand.

What's the shelf life for this product?

Asked by: flipinfolsom
From Mountainhouse.com: "Based on our ongoing sensory and nutrition testing of actual Mountain House products, in 2012 the shelf life was increased by an impressive 42%, from 7 years to 10 years! That’s right -- our shelf life is at least 10 years from the date of manufacture as long as the pouch is stored unopened in a cool area. After 10 years a change in flavor and appearance may be noticed. We have personally tasted pouches that were 30 years old and they still taste great. For best results, avoid prolonged storage at temperatures above 75° F (24° C)."
