I also wrote a review for the Summit eVAC dry sack. Same great quality. No rips in either bag!(see picture) The material in the lime green REI Dry Sack is more like tent material. REI is a great brand. Thanx REI.

Not suitable for river use.

This bag is for light duty only. It isn't suitable for river use. Mine was destroyed in less than a week in a canoe. It also isn't ripstop nylon, though it looks like it. Once a rip starts, it can easily run the length of the bag. You can't repair it with duct tape. This bag could be ok inside a backpack if it doesn't contact sharp points.

So glad I bought this as my food bag

I used to bring a duffel for storing food on backpacking trips. Those cumbersome days are over. This is the perfect food bag for me. Unlike other brands I looked at, this dry bag has a separate loop for a carabiner clip. It is so easy to hang, get into while it hangs, and roll up and clip together all in seconds, plus keeping everything dry and contained. The light green makes seeing the contents easier too. I debated on purchasing the 10L bag for my extended-weekend backpacking trips, but figured I could always use extra room in the bag for keeping my cooking/kitchen stuff dry and all in one place with my food. Highly recommend.

great bag for light use.

This is not a river bag. This is not a bear hang bag. This is not a heavy duty waterproof travel bag. This is a lightweight dry sack and you're getting it because you want something waterproof that doesn't weigh much at all. It's not going to stand up to a lot of abuse or stress. That being said, are used to these strapped to the front fork of my bike packing bike for road tour, and they work great. My stuff stay dry, I was able to compress them however I needed to - they did get a little scuffed but I was careful when using them not to load up with sharp stuff or try to snag things on them.

Great for light duty.

I used this on a week long trip to the high Uinta Wilderness. I packed it inside of my main pack to keep items dry and it worked perfectly. Each night, I stuffed it with some clothes and closed it up with just the right amount of air trapped inside and it doubled as a great pillow! The second time I used this dry bag was on a day trip on "The Subway" in Zion National Park. The trip included several pools to swim through where I would put my hiking shoes in this bag and clip it to my day pack to carry it. The dry bag was carrying my heavy shoes, rolled very tightly, and hanging from my day pack, and at some point it wore a hole from the friction where the material folds around the top. I may have had unreasonable expectations for this simple dry bag, and it was probably a little undersized for shoes. All things considered the bag did it's job, and I would recommend this to anyone who needs to keep simple items dry. I would recommend to only use it for lighter objects that fit without strain, and obviously make sure there aren't any sharp/hard edges (shoe soles may be too hard). I will patch mine and I plan on using it for many more adventures.

Don't buy it

Used this for a 3 week biking trip and it worked okay but halfway through my trip the bottom tore. Soon after the first tear occurred, there was a second, then the bag became useless when the whole buckle/strap assemble tore off. I love REI but this is a terrible product.

Torn after one time use

I used this bag once on a backpacking trip as a bear bag to hang my food. The next day, I found a small rip on the side already and was very displeased to have only used it once.

Great dry sack for backpack

We bought this dry sack for our son's first major hiking and backpacking trip. It served it's purpose well. Our son's belongings did not get wet during the trip. My only recommendation would be to consider having the different size bags available in different colors. It would be easier for more quickly finding your stuff.

Worth every penny

Big-box stores like Best Buy and Target have made me a little wary of store brands, so for my first dry bag I bought an Osprey for their great warranty coverage. For my second, I decided to try the REI - and I couldn't be happier with that decision! This bag looks and feels even sturdier than the Osprey dry bag I purchased earlier, and it holds even more stuff while costing less than the other brands on the shelf. I will DEFINITELY be buying more REI products in the future!
