Features

  • Three-antenna system pinpoints the location of burials within a 60m range regardless of antenna orientation and burial depth
  • In a multiple-burial scenario, the unit works to transmit a signal without overlapping other signals
  • Eliminating signal overlap allows the searcher to quickly interpret the audible and visual information with increased accuracy and less confusion
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology displays the number of buried victims as stick figures on an easy-to-view LCD screen
  • When signals are detected, the approximate distance and direction to the burials are displayed—simply follow the arrows to reach a burial
  • Upon locating the position of the first victim, the searcher can mark and mask the found signal and immediately begin searching for other burials; marks up to four signals
  • Includes an inclinometer so you can accurately measure slope angles, helping you navigate through potential avalanche terrain
  • Pieps DSP Pro can measure frequency deviation of all transceivers, a great pre-ski tour test to conduct
  • Scan function quickly gives an overview of all buried devices within the detectable range
  • Self-check tests all major functions as the transceiver is powering on, including transmitting frequency and operation of antennas, amplifiers, processors and batteries
  • Adjustable, nylon harness with pouch keeps the unit secure and accessible
  • Compatible with all transceivers operating on the 457 kHz frequency
  • Can be used with Pieps iProbe (sold separately); iProbe can temporarily suppress the signal of a transmitting Pieps transceiver to make searching for multiple burials easier
  • Change modes to search for a dog wearing a Pieps TX600 Dog Avalanche Rescue transmitter (sold separately); TX600 transmits on a different frequency than avalanche beacons
  • Pieps DSP Pro avalanche transceiver operates on 3 AAA batteries, included
  • Software can be updated via USB (cable not included)

Great advanced functions but simple to use

I love this transceiver and would recommend it to anyone. The best feature is its "Scan" function, which scans for # of burials within 5, 20, and 50m. It is a great mental map feature. All its other features work great (group check function, marking feature, inclinometer et al) too while its search strip width is one of the largest on the market (60m!). It does NOT have analog capabilities, but after taking my AvSAR course/exams, I was very happy to have this beacon over others. Of course, it does come down to personal preference sometimes. I just like that it provides the pro-level features I want and does away with features I don't care for. Highly recommend!

great product just like the rest...

i think this device probably works as good as any of the new transcievers on the market.. that being said i want to help with product development by contributing my two cents. when in search mode there is not positive locking position, so switch can "float" back and forth switching transciever between search and send or even accidentally lock back into the positive position of send. could complicate certain senarios... and what is with the 3 strap adjustability on the shoulder portion of the harness? digital processor breaks down under close proximity multi-burials, seems like they all do? great product

Very Powerful Receive/Transmit Range

Gotta love having everyone on the team line up and test the range of their beacons. At 60m, a few of us were still receiving the test signal. At 70m, it was just me with the DSP Pro. And it went out a few more meters still. When on transmit, it consistently gave out the strongest signal during search practice. The 3-way antenna results in quick and accurate search results. Find your first buried subject, mark it, and move on quickly to the next one. Two thumbs up. Easy to use. Great battery life. And as far as I have experienced, the strongest send/receive capability of new beacons by several meters.

Solid Beacon

I was trying to decide between this and the S1+. I ended up going with this one for several reasons. I also wanna clear up some misconceptions. 1. I thought it might be cheap plastic. Was surprised that is was very sturdy, very impressed. 2. The lock button people said was hard to operate with gloves on...this is false. Really easy to use. You just need to compress it. 3. The harness is cool, you can keep in one while bringing the beacon away from the body. 4. Has a bigger range than the S1+. Also has the inclometer. Also has "smart antennas" All in all, very satisfied and helps comfort me.

Fast, acurate and dependable

PIEPS has a great legacy and has been in the game for a long time. Love this new beacon! Fast, accurate and loaded with functions. Was able to consistently get fastest times on the mountain for practices searches while patrolling at Snow Basin.

Best I've used.

Rescue function: It works great. The multi-burial scenario flagging works better than others I have tried. Also, it plays some games on the transmitter side to reduce signal overlap, and improve transmission if it detects interference. It seems reliable so far, and the range is the best of the newer digital transceivers I have used. Other: I really like the ability to test the frequency of other transceivers, and I am looking forward to picking up the compatible dog-collar when it is back in stock. Also, it is fairly small and light, and the harness works well.

Great Beacon!

I've been playing with this quite a bit the past week. It has great range, is very easy to use, and great for multiple burials. My one issue is the automatic send-to-recieve feature. By default, this is deactivated. Pieps encourages you to buy the backup transceiver (probably the best option). But if you don't want to do that you can deactivate it online, but need the data cord. I haven't be able to find one yet. I wish the default setting was to automatically switch from send to receive in the event the searcher is buried by a second slide.

Easy to use and long Battery Life

The new Pieps Pro is easy to use and has a longer battery life. The switch is a great improvement over the previous DSP due to the locking feature. I will use the slope angle feature. I do not like the Pro holster as well as my previous DSP because the shoulder strap keeps loosening. I have to shorten the strap every day when I put it on. I liked the zipper feature, wide shoulder strap, pen holder and mesh holster of the previous DSP however the quick extraction loop feature on the Pro is much faster.

Great Beacon!

This beacon is compact, accurate, and very intuitive. The supporting documentation is very easy to understand, and makes the beacon even easier to use. As noted in other reviews, the sport model is a viable option if you do not want or need the extra features. I have seen one instance where the leash attachment point (on the beacon housing) has broken, but this is among over 6 units belonging to people I know. I trust BD will remedy that instance. When I hear of it, I will update this review.

Best beacon I have ever owned...

Having used a few beacons over the years, this one is by far the best. Fast, super easy to figure out how to use, extra long battery life, slope angle checker are some of the awesome characteristics of this unit. Other awesome features not to be forgotten is the fast processor, the 60m range, the scan the slope feature to see how many and how far each beacon is… Finding, eliminating the signal of a beacon for multi-burrials… Many awesome features that are very easy to use!
