Rated 5 out of 5 by from best I've owned Fit: regular shoe is 9, bought 9. I expect they run half size large, but with a medium thick sock fit is perfect. Initial tightness/stiffness in foot and upper was expected and eased up to be a perfect fit after a mile walk. Function: Solid, supportive boot but remarkably light. Excellent on all terrain/loads. Unless its a sandals day, I'm wearing these. I'm pretty sure these would be fine into the 60 degree temp range. Cant speak to durability yet - but with the excellent build quality I cant imagine an issue. Very good looking boot if that important to you. Expensive boot but worth every penny. No better place to over spend than on your feet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this boot! I am 6'2", 210lbs, flat footed and always carry a 15lb day pack. Got these boots to replace a pair of Merrill Phaser Peaks (good bye old friends/3rd pair). Replaced the insole with a Spenco arch and hit the trail. First hike of 10 miles, almost 1000' of climbing, then descending, some rocks and loose gravel…WOW, I was impressed. No hot spots, no discomfort anywhere. Great gripping and ankle support. Next hike in the Sierra's. Rough, rocky trail. Again, great gripping, ankle support and never felt the sharp rocks through the thick sole of this boot. Have about 100 miles on them and truly could not be more pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Backing boots made I did not buy these boots at REI. I won them at a hunting banquet. Regardless, these are definitely the best hiking boots I have ever owned. They are not light hikers, they are designed more for backpacking. They perform much better if I have at least a 20 lb pack (but I also only weigh about 160lbs). The materials are top notch, high quality leather, goretex, vibram soles. One thing I really like about these boots is that my feet stay cool, not cold, but I have noticed that excessive heat does not build up in these like some other boots I have owned. Mostly these boots are extremely comfortable. One of the best fitting boots I have ever owned. When these wear out in a few years I will purchase another pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zamberlan Boots are GREAT! New product 960 Guide GT RR Hiking Boot has a higher top profile which provides a more rigid foot joint "side play" support than the Vioz GT boot, however is less "form fitting" than the Vioz. This additional support is helpful in more rugged terrain even with slightly more weight add. The Vioz has been an outstanding boot (3 pair use so far) for foot support, comfort, and durability and that history should carry to the new 960 model based on initial use. Triple cross lacing at strategic points can help provide more or less support or pressure as desired. Zamberlan has been the only boot, so far, that has allowed me to walk/hike every day, all day without discomfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from get a pair! Waited for a 20% sale and swooped on these. After reading many reviews I was not dissapointed. Amazing boots. Very well made, the quality is excellent. Wore them around the house doing construction for 6 hours only to make sure they fit then climbed Mt Whitney.. ( I'd run out of time to break them in) No Blisters!! No issues. Incredible. I do wear boots for work so my feet are boot ready but these were brand new boots.. Really worth every penny. I would recommend for standard foot size. They are not wide so that may be an issue for some. That's it. Excellent boot, excellent quality, the traction with the vibram soles they have been paired to is beyond question.. I used 5/10 approach shoes a lot with a tacky sole.. Never slip or break traction. These Zamberlan boots came very very close to that. Wet or dry - there was never any doubt of stable footing. Get them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Company "Z" makes great boots This is my second pair of Zamberlan boots and I am not disappointed. My Zamberlans have taken me across North America and backpacking from Germany to Sicily and back again. Comfortable and functional right out of the box, I wear these boots almost every day, year-round here in southwest Alaska. Snow, rain, muddy trails... these boots handle it all. My only issue (and it's a small one) is that almost immediately (after a couple of days of wear) the boots began to "weep" some dark colored dye or adhesive from the sides. Both boots, both sides, from the same location, right where the boot bends when I walk. The material stains the leather but does not appear to reduce or compromise the waterproof functionality of the boots! And it seems to be most prominent in wet conditions. Is this annoying? A little. Am I disappointed? Not really. The boots themselves are so good that I'm okay with the stains. Perhaps is was a less-than-appropriate bonding material used at the factory that responds negatively to the friction caused by walking. Hopefully, this is an isolated instance. Overall great boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The last set of Hiking boots you will ever need 4+ years of service and these things are still like brand new. The rubber doesn't look like it has eroded at all despite heavy and rough terrain. If tied up properly you can stand in running water and keep your feet dry. They are by far the most comfortable of the mountain boots available. The padding is incredible, and required virtually no breaking in. The price is the one issue, but if you are serious about being out there despite the conditions, there is no substitute.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The finest boots I've ever owned The past couple of years I've been buying Zamberlan Vioz GTs and have been amazed at their quality and durability. Even then, I still manage to go through a pair a year. So based on the pictures and a couple of reviews on the net I did this purchase as an impulse buy over the Internet (not available in local REI stores at the time) using the same size as my Vioz GTs. I did not have the opportunity to try them on - but hey, this is REI. I've not been disappointed. These are the finest boots I've ever owned (previously I would have said that about the Vioz GT). I've done several hikes now with lots of off-trail travel and they have delivered. I see several improvements over the Vioz GTs. The Vibram sole has deeper cleats for digging into mud or soft soil - nice on the downhill when it is time to apply the brakes. I love the Zamberlan 'rocker' sole - any other pair of boots now make me feel flatfooted. The toe box is firmer and has a larger protective shield over the toe where my Vioz GTs have worn though (probably from kick stepping into dirt and rocks). Ankle support is strong and better protected than my Vioz GTs. The overall fit is like my Vioz GTs,i.e., near perfection. The boot is slightly taller than my Vioz GTs. The tongue on my Vioz GTs would sometimes bite into the front of my ankle but this has not been a problem with this Guide GT, the tongue is softer and feels much better. I think there might be improvements in the leather used as these boots still look newish after the dirt is washed off - the Vioz GTs seemed easily scratched. I like the lace hooks better than the ones on my Vioz GTs where the first set of hooks coming up is re-enforced and slightly different from the others. Attention to detail, design, quality, these are incredibly well-built boots.

Does REI have any Zamberlan 960 new models (like) the picture in stock?   I was shipped the old style Zamberlan 960

Asked by: Chop
We have inspected stock in our warehouse. The 960 Guides that we have in stock match both the pictures on and on Zamberlan's site. You are more than welcome to return or exchange the boots that you ordered if you are not satisfied with them.

It seems like the leather on the outside of these boots could benefit from some kind of cleaner/moisturizer/waterproofer to keep the material supple and protected. Any recommendations?

Asked by: BrooklynG
The Nikwax Fabric and Leather Cleaner / Waterproof Spray - Duo Pack would be a great choice for maintaining your 960 Guide GT RR Hiking Boots.

Do the soles stay laminated well? I won't to avoid having another pair of boots with the sole peeling off. Thank you.

Asked by: DanGurtler
We have had not heard any specific feedback about the soles on the 960 Guide GT RR Hiking Boots delaminating prematurely.

Hi. I've read through the reviews, but didn't see any comments relating to the room in the toe box. This is typically the "kiss of death" for me as I need a roomy toe box, how are these?  Thanks

Asked by: mtrnner
These boots are a standard D width. The fit is neither narrow nor roomy for most users.

Since these aren't available in the local REI stores, how does the sizing run (i.e., small, large, similar to another brand)?

Asked by: DanGurtler
A majority of users find that the 960 Guide GT RR Hiking Boots fit true to size.
