Excellent product. Easy to set up and use. Stable, solid support. Damaged right out of the box, though, with no real way to fix it. (The rubber support pads were torn). Impractical to replace - the whole rack would have to be disassembled. No answer from Thule yet on how they will handle it.

Bad fit for both car and bike

I just purchased this product and have spent the last two hours trying to find a suitable resting point for my small women's bike. The arms are too far apart to fit the frame. The rubber straps require a weight-lifter's strength to stretch. The sway stabilizers are difficult to mount and apparently have to be unmounted before a bike can be put on or removed (I was only successful in getting one on and was able to stabilize the bike better by using extra straps). There were several other issues with the rack itself as it related to my bicycle, but there were also issues with mounting it to my car (yes, I checked the Fit Guide). Even when pulled as tightly as I could manage, the straps were still loose. The hooks do not fit easily into the gap between the trunk and the car body, although I had to open the trunk in order to get the bottom ones back out again. Nor am I impressed with the security of it. It seems to me that a thief would take less than thirty seconds to remove bike, rack and all if your car was left unattended even briefly.

Cross country road trip!!!

This was a 5 star bike rack for us!!! We drove from Washington state to Maine in a minivan, and this was such a solid bike rack for our 2 bikes, a woman’s bike and a men’s mountain bike. Each night that we stopped at a hotel, we took the bikes and bike rack off. The first time maybe took 20 minutes to assemble, then after that it literally took us 5 min to take it on and off. We added 2 bungie cords to secure the wheels of the bikes so they wouldn’t spin. We also added a lock thru rack and the bikes so it gave us peace of mind at rest stops and other stops along the way. We definitely recommend this rack. No need for a higher priced one!!

Satisfied

Bought this when I also bought my first bike in years. I own a 2015 toyota camry hybrid. I have the roof rack setup for bikes, but I don't like the hastle of having to stand the bikes up on the roof racks, and putting the roof racks on is a pain. This thule setup on the trunk was perfect. Very easy to set up right out of the box, the bike is super secure. Like one reviewer posted, only complaint would be that sometimes it is hard to fit the bike on the rack due to the plastic holders being a little bulky, so fitting them in the middle of the frame can be a little difficult. I would buy again though and recommend for an SUV Trunk carrier.

Awful product

I am beyond disappointed in this product. First, the directions are hard to follow, and pictures make very little sense. It doesn’t fit correctly on my car. I drive a Subaru Crosstrek, and I carefully checked the Thule website to make sure it would, but the clips on the side keep falling off no matter how much I tighten them. Even worse is that I can’t get my son’s bike to fit on this, so it’s completely useless. It’s absolutely impossible to get his bike on it as the arms are too wide for the frame of it. He rides a 24” mountain bike, so it’s not like he’s riding a little kid’s bike. I’ll be returning this as soon as possible.

Works well, but mounting the bike can be difficult

Overall, I was pretty impressed with how well the rack worked. I used it to move my bike cross country from Texas to California, and my bike stayed secured the whole way. My biggest complaint is that the carrier bars are too far apart and the plastic cradles that hold the bike are too large which can make it incredibly difficult to get my bike on and off the rack. I was carrying a large 29'' mountain bike so I was really surprised when my bike's frame was almost too small to fit on the rack. Other than that one issue, I really was quite impressed with the rack.

Great rack! Just one improvment needed…

I got this rack to fit my BMW 230i and works great. The only thing I needed to change is the strap that holds the rack in the horizontal plane (most fwd lip of the trunk lid). The original that comes with the rack is just a hook. If the strap loses tension, i.e. like breaking and the rack tilts fwd, it can get detached and bye bye bikes. I replaced with a different kind of strap that ends in a round stopper that gets trap inside the trunk, highly recommended: (Saris bike rack hatch huggers). Hope this helps!

Carful with Wet Weather

When the straps get wet they tend to stretch. The bottom clips will “fall” out of the door and dangle. You only need to be concious to tighten periodically.

Well built, easy to use, but limited.

I bought this rack because our ancient 4 bike trunk rack made by an out of business company has walked off. We just bought 2 new Giant Fathom 2 mtbs and thought this rack would be a low cost temporary rack since we'll be selling this car soon. Rack is well built, easy to put together, and mount on the car, Toyota Highlander, but with both bikes mounted it's a squeeze. The spacing between mounts is minimal with road bikes in mind. For MTBs the wide front shocks will rub against the other bike and rub off paint if you don't cushion them. I can mount the first bike through the main frame triangle, but there isn't enough room to do that with the second bike so one mount is through back of the triangle by the seat and the front rests on top of the mount. It fits securely enough. The anti-sway attachments fit on one bike but is worthless on the second. Also, the front wheel of the first bike on is only 9" above the ground, so steep driveways or dips in the road are very worrisome. Tried to solve this by mounting the first bike high like the second but it doesn't allow mounting the second bike securely. So this will work for now. Wish they had a 'Depends' box on the would you recommend to a friend question.
