I've used it on several weekend backpacking trips. It is tough yet lightweight. Hood is fantastic. Very breathable. This and a lightweight base layer is all I needed when hiking in ~40F (very windy) weather. I've scraped it against rock and foliage - no visible scratches. It is darn expensive. I got it for the clearance price and even then is still darn expensive.
I purchased this jacket to replace a 2.5 layer laminate jacket that was no longer waterproof and did not breath very well. This jacket is everything I was looking for. I first wore this jacket on a canoeing trip with a wide range of weather conditions. From a full sun, no wind, 8 mile paddle in the 60's to full on thunderstorm with sideways rain. This jacket took it all and looked good doing it. No frills, just practical. Its a very clean jacket. The hood adjustability is perfect. I regularly would adjust it based on the wind/rain direction to keep my face dry and it always allowed me to lock it down just right. While attempting to hide in a screen tent in the sideways rain and wind, I had to hold one of the legs to keep the tent from blowing away. No only would the rain mist when it hit the screen, but the screen was also blown against the jacket. I figured the contact with the screen would allow the water to leech through the jacket. The Gore-tex Pro handled it all. Aside from a small drip in the front when I didn't have the jacket zipped up all the way, I was completely dry. Even with a 70 degree heavy rain and hard paddle, I was dry inside. Usually, I steam up the jacket and soak inside layers with sweat. This is an expensive jacket. You will not regret the investment. It goes on sale occasionally and use your annual dividend to offset some of the cost. I'm 6'2" with medium frame (180 lbs). The medium jacket was the right size for me. It is an athletic cut so larger frames should size up. The jacket is on the short side for my height but the arms are long enough despite the 6'4" wingspan.
I've had several waterproof breathable jackets over the years and this one is my new favorite! It is hard to beat the quality and attention to detail of Arc'teryx. It comes with a bit of a price tag, but their quality is incredible. This new Gore-tex Pro fabric is INCREDIBLE. I've tested products for Gore-tex as part of their MountainTechs program for several years and that has given me the opportunity to test numerous jackets. The combination of breathability and durability of this Pro fabric is absolutely amazing! The athletic cut of this jacket fits me well, but I had to size up on this jacket compared to some of my previous jackets from other brands. I like how minimalist and lightweight this is, while stilling being a rugged jacket that I can use wherever I go in the mountains.
bought this on REI's annual sale. Great product, light yet very functional. I am 6 ft, 165lbs,40/41 chest. Size M fits perfectly. Still have enough room inside to do layering.
This is a good jacket if you don't want something as baggy as the AR. It is a lighter weight jacket, not as warm but still feels durable. I bought this for more aerobic activities and while it is quite breathable I would prefer to have pit zips. All in all a great jacket, not sure if it's worth the price tag though as competitors in this range sell theirs for about 30% - 50% less.
Wow!! Such a great product. Second Arcterxy jacket I have purchased. They are pricey but you get a great product. I've already bought a number of jackets but this group knows how to produce. Survived Cleon 2013 and Dion 2013, great for layering under, breaths well and maintains heat when layering. You won't be disappointed.
At this price pit zips would improve this jacket. Waterproofing is excellent. At 5' 8" 175 lbs this jacket is far too snug. I think the medium size is not comparable to other brand mediums. Other (thinner) guys have said fits ok, I'd suggest to make sure you try on before to check the size. Other Arcteryx items I've purchased ran larger that is why I went for medium here.
I owned a Theta jacket for close to a decade. The seam welds started to fail last year. The company repaired the first incident, on the second failure they are shipping me a new jacket. Very happy with their customer service!
I bought this piece for my 75 mile hike through the Smoky Mountains. Perfect!
