I purchased this product with high hopes. I figured that despite the lightweight fabric, Arcteryx would have done their homework, and would not have used it if it was not durable enough. Unfortunately, after two days of light use skiing it developed a tear in the fabric over one of the chest pockets. Nothing had been stored in the pocket, and the only thing over top of it was the strap from my osprey pack. I did not have any falls or encounter any trees while skiing, and there was nothing that could have cut or punctured it. When I had not been wearing it, it was carefully rolled up and stored in a stuff sack in my pack. I returned it to REI, and exchanged for a beta AR. If this new jacket does not hold up, it will be the last product I ever buy from Arteryx.
I was looking for a jacket suitable for alpine climbing as well as for skitouring and (why not) decent enough for a trip downtown in Milan. Humbling saying I foun the Alpha jacket in black "The Jacket" for all of these activities. It's light, it's cool and it's super strong and confortable with an Atom LT jacket while layering. Also, it can be used for business trip, due to the superb fit. 5 stars to the best jacket ever.
I just got this jacket and my initial impressions are very positive. I am a guide in the northeast and beat on my gear. I have worn this skiing and guiding climbing and been psyched with it. Light, solid, waterproof and moves with me.
Great overall fit, excellent lightweight materials and numerous extra features
