Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astounding Looking for a legit ultralight pillow? This is it. I've tried them all out or at least weighed them all out. This packs out at 3.7 ounces. Combines inflatable pillow with some synthetic cushion to make a real pillow. I've taken it with me on a 6 day winter backpacking trip through Yosemite recently, it was great. Just packed it in with my clothes or sleeping system compression sacks. Packs down to nothing and weighs not much. Two sided, so that if its too slippery on one surface the other surface has traction. Also its shaped for a mummy bag, it cuts off the top two unused edges. If you want a pillow and are kicking it lightweight backpacking style.... this is it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very useful At the beginning of the summer my father and I were camping in Mongolia. We entered from China into the Gobi and traveled all the way up North to the border with Siberia. We went from desert heat to it snowing the last night. I'm really picky about pillows. At home I usually sleep with many. I was surprised at how much I liked this little pillow. When we were in the desert I slept on the nylon side and my face stayed cool and when we entered the cold mountains I used the soft fabric side and it stayed nice and warm. Super easy to fit in anywhere. I was always able to get it back into its little bag it came with. I will definitly keep using this pillow.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Small and lightweight but deflates I bought this to use this summer while backpacking and it didn't last me two weeks before it would deflate completely overnight. The product failing was frustrating, but so was using it when it worked. When inflated, I found the pillow to be too big to be comfortable under my neck. When I tried letting out air to fit me better, I discovered that it makes an annoying plastic like crinkling noise with every movement while trying to sleep when not fully inflated. The pros of this item were that it was light weight and packed very small. I will be returning it on my next trip to REI.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Surprised Sleeping is always an issue for me. I always struggle with sleeping gear that does not match my home. I really wanted to get a nice pillow that I would pack away and keep light but still be comfortable. I found it. It is not perfect but does the job well. I have a Big Agnes Hogan Park and this fits perfect in the small head pouch in the bag. It does not move around at night and is easy to deflate for good comfort. It even works great weather you are on the ground or in a hammock. Also like the way it deflates to a small size for packing. It was also very warm and kept my head at a nice level. Would recommend to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surpassed All Expectations I had some reservations after reading other reviews, but they were quickly assuaged after the first night. Usually a side sleeper that prefers a firm pillow, I found this pillow comfortable sleeping on my back, my stomach, and on my side propped up on my arm (it's a bit too narrow for me to sleep on my side by itself). The microfiber side is soft, but nylon side occasionally slips around and out of my hood. It doesn't help that it's a bit large for my ALPS Mountaineering Red Creek +15 Sleeping Bag, but I wouldn't want it any smaller. Although it does seem rather fragile, it's compactibility is worth it in my book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Versatile I bought this pillow to go backpacking in Europe as something that was comfortable and easy to pack and shove somewhere. I used it on the plane, on the trains, and in the hostels. I was able to inflate it to stabilize my neck or to sleep a full night in a bed although, it did take some time to get it just right. Since returning home I have used it to sleep in my hammock and just as an all around camp pillow. I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wonderful I'll admit, I've been hiking, backpacking, and camping since I was about 14 (and that's a lot of sun rises my friends) and I've ALWAYS slept on a compression sack with my towel in it as the pillow. The sales associate recommended this product to me, and my neck thanks him! It is a thousand times more comfortable, and coupled with my REI Flash sleeping pad I am now bedding down on a bed away from home! Inflates in about 3 full breaths.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hiker pillow This is a great and light hiker pillow. It is shaped to fit inside the mummy hood of your sleeping bag. On really cold nights this might not work, because you would need all of that mummy hood to surround your head, not your pillow. But I usually wear a fleece hat when I sleep. If you try to put this pillow under your sleeping bag hood, it will likely slip or move out from under you. Some people complain about the comfort of this pillow, but the only way to make it more comfortable would be to add loft/cushion which would take up space. I'd rather have it be mostly inflatable so it packs small. You can always put a fleece jacket or clothing on top to increase comfort.

How thick does the pillow inflate to?

Asked by: MAC1
The maximum thickness of the Sleeping Bag Hood Pillow is approximately 5 1/4 inches. This can vary depending on how much the air is put into the pillow.

How do I clean it? Washin machine ?

Asked by: motech
The best bet would be hand washing the pillow in lukewarm water and hang dry. Do not dry clean, tumble dry, iron or use bleach.

I was thinking of taking this on a six month trip abroad. I've seen some great reviews for shorter trips but would this be comfortable enough to use for six months? I won't be camping but I'll be traveling often and won't have access to bedding.

Asked by: hodgemad
This pillow is a great choice for extended travel trips.
