Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great shoe This shoe is great. A lot of shoes you have to work in when you get them. I used this shoe the first time and they did great. They were super comfortable and very light, great for a long distance hiker like myself. A bit about my feet: I have wide, flat feet, and this shoe worked well with my feet, not too narrow as I find most shoes are, and the lightness makes the long distance feel even less. Love the lace tie-ups and the sturdy feel over all. Finally a nice light hiking shoes that fits and looks good as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love these shoes! These are my first pair of hiking shoes, I've had them for about a year. I was trying to decide between these and a pair of trail runners. As the other reviews have stated, these shoes are ready to go the very first time you put them on. They are extremely comfortable, waterproof, and lightweight, and flexible on the bottom. I run into puddles on purpose and stub my toes on rocks all the time (not on purpose) and these shoes have held up great. They will definitely last for many more years!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing hiking shoes! These shoes are great! I go hiking twice a week and I finally needed to replace my Merrell shoes. I knew I was going on a long backpacking trip when I was searching for a new pair of boots. I'm not a fan of boots being above the ankle, but that's just my thing. I wanted a pair that would be waterproof because I new I was going to be crossing some creeks on certain hikes. During my trip I slipped by a creek that was literally ice cold and my feet were first into the water. My feet and socks didn't get wet! These are also breathable on warmer days, which is hard to find with waterproof shoes. They also gave great support while carrying a lot of weight in my pack. I wore them on 2 warm-up hikes to see if I needed to break them in, and it wasn't necessary. These are super comfy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME!!!!!!! These are the best shoes I ever bought. I bought a second pair shortly after the first just so I have a back up pair, incase they change them or stop making them. I wore them on a bird watching outing- it was downpour raining and flooding and I got totally soaked. The only thing that was dry- MY FEET! The gore-tex is awesome. I was splashing thru deep puddles in hard rain and my feet never got wet. They are great for everyday wear, out on the trail, hiking, trail running. I love love love them. I can't say enough good about them. THE BEST!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First pair of low top boot! This was the first pair of low top hiking boots. We do section hiking of the AT yearly and my last pair of boots tore my toenails up due to my foot sliding forward. I was VERY concerned that I would not get ankle support on the Trail. I did not miss the high top boots. These were amazing boots. They were lightweight and my toes had room to prevent rubbing. My feet never got wet either and we had rain everyday. I took a ton of time trying them in the store and I hope you will too. I would purchase this pair of boots again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best I decided to replace my Salomon low hikers, which were great and lasted forever. I did try on others, but Salomons always feel like I'm not even wearing them. I mean you put them on and there's none of that "these are good except I can feel something at the heel" or whatever. They say these run true to size, but NO. They are 1/2 size too big. Other current model Salomons are also running big, so something happened there. But anyway, these are great and I know they'll really hold up well. Unlike other reviewers, I do have (Salomon) mid-high hikers and I think they offer more stability. But I like low ones for non-climb-y hiking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As comfortable as most tennis shoes Bought another pair of hiking shoes while training for the Santiago Camino Walk in Spain and they just continued hurting my feet. Went back and REI refitted me with the Ellipse and instant relief. I walked and even ran thru the store and they were so much more comfortable immediately. They never required a break in (like my other brand). I love the wider bed so that my toes are not crushed after a long walk/hike. I have a bunion and they do not interfere with it. I consider my ankles thin and they were still able to tie snuggly around my feet and ankle. Love, Love these shoes. I have even worn them to the gym and exercised in them. They look more like a tennis show than a hiking shoe so I was not embarrassed to wear with workout pants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shoe! I decided on this shoe compared to the Vasque Mantra GTX shoe. Love the roomy forefoot and light weight relative to the narrower Vasque. The Solomon laces easily and more comfortably secures the shoe for a great fit and improved arch support for my high arches. The removable inner sole could provide a little more cushion, but a gel heel cushion does the job for me. Comfortable out of the box. All around- a great shoe and value for the price.

Are Salomon shoes true to size?

Asked by: t1natang
Salomons used to be true to size. I find the ones currently in stock are running 1/2 size big. (Summer 2016)

I was in the Houston store and tried on these shoes, and the lady helping me suggested that I try a 10.5. She gave me the information and I went home to order the larger size. Is this shoe available in anything over a size 10??

Asked by: emarlatt
According to Salomon, the largest size offered in Ellipse GTX Hiking Shoes - Women's is size 10.

Are these shoes true to size? I have found with other hiking boots that I need to get half size up.

Asked by: Momplus2
The Ellipse GTX Hiking Shoes will run true to length. Salomons have been known to have a slightly narrow toebox.

How are these on snowy sidewalks? I need something to give me confidence walking on snowy sidewalks.

Asked by: Marge24
These hiking shoes do provide great traction, but you may want to consider purchasing a winter hiking boot instead as they will provide much better traction in snowy weather.

My last pair of Salomon's mesh uppers allowed so much dirt and small stones through the fabric that I constantly had to take them off to empty, plus socks were coated in dirt. Does anyone have feedback whether this occurs with this model?

Asked by: ForestLass
We have not had any feedback regarding rocks and dirt coming through the fabric of the Ellipse GTX Hiking Shoes.
