I bought these last minute for my trip to Ireland going on The Kerry Way trail. Didn’t need to break in and felt excellent support all the way. Waterproof worked well, although we had a day of heavy rain when I got soaked through, I’m talking about 5 hours of walking in heavy rain when the path becomes a stream. The shoes dried in a few days. I ended up with a few blisters from walking in wet shoes but that’s not even close to how badly others in the group were affected wearing theirs. Realistically, the best support I could expect as someone who doesn’t go hiking that often and to that level of difficulty. Very happy!
Tried these on in my size before purchasing online and they felt great. However an hour or so into my first long walk in them they began pinching the little toe on both feet. I tried loosening the laces but then my feet slipped out of the back, I tried tightening the laces but this made my toes a little numb! A shame as I love the style and they felt fine when I tried them on, they just do not serve as a good hiking shoe for this reason.
Overall design and comfort is great, however after wearing it for a few days, my left shoe started to have a flappy/pop sound with each step. I tried to identify the issue and realised it happens when I swap to thinner socks - as the tongue or top of shoe was not as ‘filled’, the microspace at the top front of the shoe (between plastic toe cap area and start of fabric) was somehow creating the sound whenever the front was bent with each step-off. Not only was there a sound, my foot can feel a slight pop too inside the shoe. Unfortunately it was very hard to ignore. The problem goes away when I wear thick socks to ensure the top of shoe is fully filled, however this gets warm especially with summer weather approaching. I was very disappointed with the quality issue, given the relatively high price. Looking at online forums, it seems others have had similar issues. I could not swap it either as it was the last pair bought online.
Did not realise from the online photos that the shoes had the thin toggle style “laces” so when I received the shoes and saw that was the case I returned them. It did not seem possible to replace those with normal laces and it seemed likely that they would snap or break in time and I wondered how they could be repaired and would that incur costs?
I bought this shoe to replace my X-Ultra Pioneer & it fit me perfectly! I received them 1 day before an 11 day trip back east. We hiked & walked 4-11 miles every day & I had zero issues with this shoe! Happily, no break-in time was needed & I will definitely buy them again when I need my next pair.
got these about a month ago for hiking and walking around the city since it rains a lot here. they’re true to size, super comfortable and have kept my feet completely dry so far. i’ve worn them on wet trails and around town and they’ve been great! overall happy with the purchase
I bought this new one for trip to Japan and I just got back Just 2 weeks of use and string snapped off. I tied a not and can use it but not same. I’ve been wearing Salomon hiking shoes for many many years and this never happened before.
As I have small feet (size 3), I’ve been struggling to find a pair of decent walking shoes and so was absolutely delighted to find these. And the added bonus was that they needed no wearing in before our hiking holiday in Wales this summer.
The quick lace system prevents the shoe being tightened enough to prevent heel slippage. So fine for a casual shoe but not really suited to hiking. Salomon needs to work on the design of the lacing system.
I absolutely love these Salomon hiking shoes. They are so comfortable, I can walk in them for days and my feet are still happy. In fact I walked on them for 6 days in Spain on the Cami de Ronda. 60 miles.
