Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lighted Collar! This is a great light-up dog collar. I have used it on multiple dogs to see where they are while walking my dog off-leash or at the dog park when it is dark. The light bright and I can see my dog from several hundred feet away (or more). The collar I have is a different version from the collar pictured - it is a Nite Ize Nite Dawg collar, in red, but the light goes all the way around the collar (except for 1" or so at the clasp). With this collar, I can see my dog from almost any angle (if the dog faces straight away or staight towards you the light can be hidden), and other people and cars can see the dog as well - great for walking a dog on a leash! I get comments all the time from people interested in this collar. I highly recommend! I would buy it again when I get a second dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes it harder for my dog to act like a ninja So my dog loves backpacking with me, and I love going in the winter when the days are short and cold. However, she also likes to go to the tent on her own while I hang out by the fire. This makes it a lot easier to see her and know she's not wandering too far away. It has velcro tabs to attach to her collar and is nice and flexible. Also weighs practically nothing so she doesn't feel it. Red glow prevents night vision loss and is visible for a long distance. Only thing I would like is to have a longer length, it does not go all the way around her neck so I might have to get a second one so I can always see it no matter how her collar is turned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for Camping I bought this for a camping trip in the N. GA mountains. Our dog was only 4 months old the first time we went & this was perfect for being able to spot her in the dark. I think the battery they provide is garbage though...none of the ones in the store worked, but they were nice enough to open up a battery pack & test it for me before I bought it. Then they let me keep the new battery (bonus). So far we've used this on 3 camping trips w/in 5 months w/no problems & that new battery is still going strong. Great for what we needed!!!! I gave it 4 stars because it could be a little better quality for the price (especially the battery cover).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this collar cover We bought this for our black dog that's very hard to see at night when she goes potty. I love that this fits on any of her collars and now we can see her at night without using a flashlight and cars can also easily see her when we go on walks at night. It's not bright enough that it illuminates her path, but that's not why we purchased it in the first place. It has a solid light setting and a flashing light setting. Love love love this collar cover!! Just wish it came in more colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Bright Light to Be Visible in the Dark! The light on this collar is very bright and covers about half the collar of my border collie. It attaches easily to her regular collar, but I wish it went all the way around because it slips to the side sometimes. I also wear a light band around my arm or leg (from REI's bike shop). The collar can light up solid or flashing. I know that as a driver, I have not seen pedestrians (or their dogs) sometimes at night, even though they can see the cars. This will definitely alert drivers and other walkers of your presence in the dark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Happy with this light Until now I've been using carabiner LEDs which hang down from the collar ring along with the dog tags. The carabiners work fine, but the collar is a lot better: a lot brighter and visible from all angles when attached on top of the collar. (I can't see the carabiner light if my dog is facing away from me.) A little bit more work to put on and take off than a carabiner, but still quite easy and worth the extra effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why? I purchased this light for my service dog because of two reasons: safety and to see her at night when off leash. Whenever we go out at night to have her use the bathroom, it is wonderful to know where I need to go to clean up her "poo" because I see where her location is (I carry a solar lantern to do the actual clean up). The other reason which I mentioned above on safety. Have many of us parents have a problem walking our kids at night where people driving act as though they cannot see people walking? Because I like this safety, and she does not always wear her collar, I did purchase two more lights for her saddlebag. Maybe next week, I will buy some more collar lights for her other collars I have for her. Too bad these do not fit the leashes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chem lights are cheaper Yes, this collar attachment will help you keep an eye on your dog's whereabouts at night, but they're not bright enough to let your dog see where he's going. We've always used a chemlight (glow stick) on a split ring and that has worked really well. I like that this collar does not hang down and get dirty or in the dog's water dish. The battery can be replaced, which is good. I'm just not thrilled I guess. Seems overpriced for what it is.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to change out the battery once it dies?  And if so -- fairly easy? Difficult?  Thanks!

Asked by: jmfaus
It is possible to replace the battery in the Nite Dawg collar. We can't speak to ease, though the instructions can be found on Nite Ize's website.
