I love this towel. Despite the unusual sizing, it still drapes around, which is a requirement for me. Besides the stated benefits in the product description, there's a few other tips I'd like to share. -Excellent pillow when camping (bundled up, not folded) -Handy pillow cover when hostelling. -Can be washed in the sink with castile soaps and the towel remains super soft and smells good -Fits in a quart-sized ziploc. Did not fit in sandwich bag for me -Nice impromtu shawl, a hair band to holds the two ends in place -Extra bedsheet - great inside my silk sheet for extra warmth Thank you REI for this wonderful product!

still bleeds after six months

This is a fine quality towel in many ways: soft, absorbent, nice size (at least for a man with a 31" waist), portable. I've used this while traveling and after swimming and scuba diving, as well as every day after showering. However, I have to wash the towel separately because the blue "Puget Sound" color continues to bleed, even after six months (!!). I never had that problem with a dark green medium-sized REI MultiTowel LIte that I bought in 2008., so perhaps they've gone with a different manufacturer. Too bad, because except for the dye bleeding this is a great towel.

Size sufficient, fast wicking

The size is perfect for shower towel. It is plenty long and just wide enough to wrap around an average-sized woman's body to walk out of the shower. I am 5'8" and this worked for me. The material is soft and quickly soaks up water, then drying just as quickly. DEFINITELY pre-soak and wash well separately before using. I ordered the purple and per another user's review I began hand-washed it prior to my trip. It literally turned the water dark purple over and over again. However, after that initial washing, it has not appeared to bleed so it should not be an ongoing problem.

Great Product

I bought this towel in-person at the store at the last minute and had some reservations because I like to read product reviews online before buying. After using the towel for a 3-day, 32-mile hike through Yellowstone and a 2-day haul up the Grand Teton, I do not regret purchasing this product at all! It is very soft, and lightweight (VERY important), and doubled perfectly as a pillowcase over some clothes in the tent. It was a good size for me, although I am on the small side. Overall, this was a great purchase and I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a lightweight towel for hiking and camping. Plus, it comes in purple!

Great for beach/pool/kids/camp

While I used to use these towels for camping and mission trips, now that I am a mom of twins, I've retired every single beach towel I owned previously in favor of a set of these towels. I can carry towels for the whole family in a smaller bag than my old beach towel for one. I also send them to preschool with my kids when they have a sprinkler day since they will dry in the cubby. To top it off, they shed sand like a dream. Moms--stop lugging those heavy beach towels and get a full set of these for your family!!

Too narrow and long!

Just like the first reviewer says - fantastic material. Last year's model was perfect. This year's model is shaped more like a scarf than a bath towel. There's a reason we've had these same basic dimensions for towels for 100's of years! I can see no advantage in making this long and narrow - unless you plan to cut it up to make multiple face cloths. Except for shape, the amount of material and the material itself is fantastic. Even the colors are great. So why screw up the dimensions?

Great size for longer term travel

I purchased this to replace the exact same item. My old green XL towel performed perfectly and it was time to take advantage of another color available. I love the color. This DOES NOT pack down tiny, but it is definitely small enough for camping and hotel stays. I took it to Europe for a 6 week backpacking/hostel trip. I also use it when I visit friends. It is big enough to wrap around your whole body for modesty and it's big enough to lay on at the beach. Dries quickly! My first towel is 5 years old and still works like a champ.

Multi-Towel put to the Test

The Multi-Towel Lite replaced a big bulky terry cloth towel that consumed a large section of my Gym Bag and was hard to stow after it got wet. The Multi-Towel Pulls the water off your skin quickly, dries very fast and weighs next to nothing even when soaked. Softens up after a couple of machine washes and seems to soak up the water faster than when new. Used Every Day at the Gym as a Pool and Shower Towel.

Amazing!

I LOVE this towel. It takes up so little space, weighs very little, feels extremely soft and it dries very fast. I use it for backpacking and plan to use it for travel. The only issue I've found with it is that the color seems to bleed when I wash it, so I only hand wash it. I think, but I could be wrong, that these types of REI towels say to pre-wash, then machine wash, but I'm definitely going to err on the side of caution here.

These towels need to be taken off the market!

I bought three of these towels in burgundy at my local store for an upcoming trip. I threw them in the washer because I usually wash new items before I use them. They bled so much that they dyed some of the other clothes and the plastic parts on the inside of my washer pink! I then washed them seven more times in hot water to try to get the excess dye out with no luck. I bought them to roll wet clothes in and now I would be afraid that they would bleed all over my clothes. I finally gave up and returned them to the store. If polyester is dyed properly, it should never bleed.
