I double up
I bought two of these because I like my head really elevated while sleeping. If my head is too low I get really bad headaches and can not sleep at all. In order to use this successfully, I do two breaths in to both pillows. I make them hard but not rock hard. They can be inflated to a quite high PSI and get hard. One of them fits in my hood of my sleeping bag but not two so I have one outside my bag. This system seems to work now after several trips with them. The fabric is actually quite warm and Ive had my face stick to them at night. Its a pillow that packs very small. Overall a great pillow that took a couple tries to get it right for me.
Best Pillow for Backpacking!
I've tried all kinds of different pillows from using my Patagonia downs weater to the Cocoon pillows. This is BY FAR the lightest and most comfortable pillow you will find. It packs down to just about nothing but once inflated it is a good size. I love the two valves for inflating and deflating the pillow. The fabric has some scretch so it doesn't feel like a brick under your head. I would get another one of these pillows in a heartbeat. Totally worth the $$$ for a good nights sleep. At 2.8oz how could you not pack this?
Love it
First things first, get the large. Packed up it is still very small and barely weighs anything. Slip a t-shirt over it as a pillow case and you almost have the pillow you use at home in your own bed. It is a little bouncy of course compared to a regular pillow because it is an air pillow but not bad. No more using a coat or clothes as a pillow. It only takes two breaths to blow it up. It does have a patch kit but I have not used it yet. I am sure if you are not careful in the desert though that it is possibly you could puncture it, that's another reason for putting a t-shirt over it as a pillow case. This pillow seems a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Like another reviewer said if I lost it today I'd buy another one tomorrow. Just make sure you get the large.
Better sleep, indoors and out! Amazing!
For me, sleep in the backcountry was always hit or miss - sometimes a great night, sometimes a next to sleepless night. I never could figure out why... (well, sometimes, because my body was so torn up by the day, I ached all over, but aside from that). This a fantastic pillow. I started out using it outdoors, where I found I slept well much more consistently. It's so comfortable, I started using it indoors - for over two years it's been my only pillow, indoors or out. I have no complaints about this product: - Super light - Durable - Makes a world of difference in the quality of my sleep (versus no pillow) - Comfortable (hooray for ergonomic design) Highly recommended. May be expensive, but it's worth every penny. Buy it, and don't look back.
wow
I've been settling for snuggling up with a crumpled up hoodie or sweater for a few years now after having been really disappointed by other inflatable camp pillows. Since REI has such a simple return policy, I decided I had nothing to lose to give this exped pillow a try after reading the reviews, and was really pleasantly surprised. I ended up using this sleeping in my tent, sleeping in the airport, and sleeping on an airplane, in the past two weeks, and finding it really shockingly comfortable. I've never actually been able to sleep for even a moment on an airplane before. The last inflatable pillow I tried was so awful that it's been packed up and stored in a closet for the past two years while I used sweaters as pillows instead. Somehow this Exped pillow almost feels like a real pillow.
Good so far
I'm a person who definitely needs something to prop under my head when I sleep and so far I've been pretty happy with this pillow. It gives much more even and firm support than a lump of clothes jammed in a sleeping bag compression sack. It does slip a little around a bit on my REI inflatable mattress pad, and it's too big to fit at the top of my mummy bag--but generally I work it out and it stays under my head during the night. The only other thing I'd really need is for it to be a bit thicker because I have big bony shoulders and I'm a side sleeper. I have the large and for most people and definitely anyone who sleeps on their back it's probably perfect. It certainly is an awesome small size for backpacking.
Super Confortable
This pillow packs super small. I can actually role this up with my Exped mattress, so the impact on space in my pack is zero. The only thing I never considered when I bought the bigger size pillow is that my mummy bag hood on my sleeping bag doesn't close around my face. It's a good size pillow! If I'm not in sub 30degree weather and don't need to seal up my mummy bag, I'm good. Consider this fact with either size of the Exped Pillow. Other than that, this pillow is worth the $ and worth the good night sleep that it provides.
Very Comfy
As a scouter I have done A LOT of camping over the years. Always rolled up rain gear into a fleece and made the best of it. I finally broke down and got a pillow. After a bit of research this one looked ok. First trip with it was a Live Aboard trip on the air craft carrier Lexington in Corpus Christi. I wish I had purchased it along time ago. Very, very comfy. Packs down to nothing, mine is stuffed into sack with air mattress. Fits into head space of mummy sleeping bag. Wrap it up into tshirt if cold to keep the chill off my ears and neck. If you are at the point of reading reviews of camp pillows, this is the one you need.
Perfect for backpacking. Small and light
Due to an old neck injury a backpacking pillow is essential for me on the trail. I tried two different models at varying price points and the more expensive Exped won out by a mile. The cheaper product did not hold air and was returned. I have used this pillow on several trips and never had an issue. The inflate valve has a little knob that can be depressed with a finger after inflating to get just the right amount of air in the pillow. This is definitely a great product.
surprisingly comfortable
I purchased the large size, which fits me fine, being 5'8" with broad shoulders. I tried it several nights at home, and slept very well. I wrapped it in a T-shirt, although if you are really tired, the textured polyester would work, I think. I haven't used it camping yet, so I can't say if it feels hot in summer weather. It wasn't hot at room temperature. I used my Coleman blower to inflate it using the deflation valve (it takes like one second!). There's really no need for the deflation valve since it's such a small item, but why pay extra for the version with just one valve? The inflation valve has a "finger button" that allows you to release small amounts of air. I wish my Exped mattress had one of those buttons! I ended up letting much of the air back out of the pillow until my head was almost touching the bottom. My neck was well supported, and when I rolled on my side, I had adequate support. If you're trying to use it fully inflated, you're missing the concept and it will be uncomfortable. The price seems a bit high for such a small item, but with the REI discount coupon, I am quite satisfied with the value. (This is, of course, subject to change after using it an actual camping setting!)
