Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light - QC Problems Fixed I initially had the same reliability problems with this light that was mentioned by a number of reviewers; the light would shut off unpredictably, leaving me dangerously exposed while commuting in the dark. I called Planet bike and they happily exchanged the defective light at no charge to me. The good news: The new light works flawlessly! This light has now replaced a $180 rear light that I purchased just a few years ago - it's nearly as bright and is much easier to use. It really offers an exceptional value for the price. Planet Bike has turned this skeptic into a very satisfied customer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not reliable Like with other reviewers, this light has a life of its own. My 14 mile commute is pretty bumpy, and I was finding this light spontaneously switched off several times per commute. Not safe at all! Finally, last week I have arrived home to find only the bracket present on the bike, the main part got dislodged and lost somewhere along the commute. When it worked, it was nice and bright. But this is useless when you cannot rely on it staying on throughout your ride.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all-round tail light Over the years I've tried dozens of tail lights and have found the Superflash to be the best combination of brightness, reliability, and durability. Contrary to its name, I tend to mainly use it on the solid mode. Because the light is so bright I worry the flash might just be a little too offensive. Love that the on/off button requires a good, solid push so that it doesn't accidentally get switched on if its bouncing around inside a bag. While it comes to two mounting options, it would be great if it came with two complete mounts so one light could work on a couple of bikes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very bright for the price I use a pair of these lights mounted vertically on my seat post. They are very bright and noticeably brighter than the normal superflash tail-light. My friends who happen to be riding behind me all tell me how obnoxiously bright it is. That's a good thing to hear. You want drivers to see you really well. I use them in the daytime, too. On overcast days they really show up well. The mount is pretty good. Not the best, but functional. They work best mounted under the seat as they don't appear to be especially waterproof, but I've never had one stop working in the rain.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Possibly iffy from one unit to another I have been using this tail light for a few months and have been extremely pleased with it's power output/brightness and burntime. I like that it runs on 2x AAA batteries so I can easily swap in fresh ones at any time and the rubber gasket seems to work pretty well for keeping out rain. After a somewhat rough trail ride, though, I found a tiny crack at the top of where the clip attaches on the back so I exchanged it for a new unit. Unfortunately, this second unit appears to me to be noticeably dimmer on the flashing mode, though I cannot be 100% sure because I do not have the first unit to compare with side-by-side. In bright sunlight I'm not sure this replacement unit is enough to grab attention. First unit was 4-5 stars, second unit gets 3 since it seems dimmer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turns Off While Riding I bought this light in the store because its flash mode seemed to provide more visibility than more expensive models. This light has great visibility and worked for about a month before I noticed a troubling design flaw. When I arrived home from my commute one night, I noticed that the light had turned off at some point during my ride. This behavior has gotten progressively worse, and I've noticed that the light turns itself off whenever I ride over a bump in the road. I will be returning this light immediately.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TURNS OFF WHILE RIDING - DANGEROUS LIGHT This light is dangerously flawed. The switch or the battery contacts are the problem. The light will switch off over bumps while riding. I rarely write reviews, but I just got home from my commute after being honked at by some cars. Then I realized the rear light was OFF! I stopped and turned it back to flash mode - one minute later, OFF AGAIN! I stopped and opened it to check that the batteries were in correctly - yep just fine. They are new batteries too. Tried again.. same problem. This is awfully dangerous because you don't know when the light is working since it's behind you. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Get a DiNotte or something of higher quality or with a REAL SWITCH. This is going back to REI with a serious complaint to their management regarding procurement. Shame on you PlanetBike. I've bought your lights in the past, but this may be the last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Have tried other tail lights. PB 1W is by far the most visible. Wife and I both use now and have logged 1200 miles in 2011. On the big climbs, when my wife destroys me, I am always amazed at how visible her PB light is. From 1/4 mile back, the 1W flash is hard to miss. A few drivers will always hate cyclists and buzz us every time; however, for the rest of the drivers, these little lights make us much more visible. The only light I will use ...
