Solid unit, great sale price
NIce solid bike rack. Fit's well on a Audi A3. I've only tried it with one bike so far, so my review is based on that. While the rubber straps and grommets hold very well, there is no in between, pull HARD and make it fit on the tighter hole, or take the easy to connect hole and it bounces around loosely in the rack. A tip - go for the harder hole to reach, use simple green to spray the strap and it slides easily to the hard to reach hole. Would I buy it again - yes.
Works on a SUV hatch, but small.
It was easy to install on a 2012 Subaru Forester even though the size chart didn't have my car on the list. However, this is a bit small for two full sized bikes I think. Also, the rubber straps that hold the bike can be very difficult to strap on especially when the weather is somewhat cold and the straps are more inflexible. Overall, this is good for occasional use with a single heavy/full size bike or two very light/small bikes.
Not your average Joe
I use this rack frequently on a commute to my favorite path across town. I always keep it in my trunk. I love that I can hook up my bike in less time that it takes me to brush my teeth. My only minor grips is actually related to the thing I like most about the SuperJoe: It's sometimes tough to secure the straps into the "pegs", especially with sweaty hands post-ride. However, I have no doubt that the bike is safe and sound once it's on there. I've only tried adding a second bike (both hybrids) on one occasion, and it seemed like a tight fit. I had to face them in the same direction, which the manual advises against. I'd really recommend it mostly for use with a single bike. Oh, and the bottle opener makes me smile each time I see it.
Rock solid
Attachment to the car is solid as a rock. It's relatively quick to set up, as well, since the side and bottom straps are integrated (only one thing to tighten per side). I was in a rush to get away for the weekend and set it up in the REI parking lot to be sure everything would fit nicely in case I needed to return it right then - it took 5m tops box to trunk. My ONLY issue so far is that one of the (very convenient) rubber-band-like excess strap holders is split a bit due to manufacturing defect and looks like it'll fall off with much more use. The fact that they're included at all is a great touch. All in all, totally worth the extra money for this over the terrible options you can find for $80 elsewhere.
Good product
An excellent small bike rack. Yakima says it won't fit my car (a MINI) but it seems to do fine. So much easier than my car-top carrier. The fact I got it discounted from the outlet store makes it sweeter.
Not a bad little rack!
I just purchased one of these for my Mercedes Benz C240 2 days ago, so this is a 2 use review so far, subject to change later. Once I got the initial set-up and adjustments dialed in for my car (which weren't bad at all if you took the time to read the instructions), it is very easy to attach and remove in a matter of 2 minutes. I will WARN you about the side straps-be sure to place them FAR down on the lower bottom edge of the corners of your trunk with a vehicle like mine! I did notice some initial slippage when I first put them on the sides, but re-positioning the straps lower on the bottom edge cured the problem. You'll have to "fiddle" around with them a bit to find the best place on your vehicle. I also noticed that the inside bike rack was too close to clear the bumper of my car-causing the pedals to come into contact with the car finish-NOT good! I had to move my bike to the outer rack location to avoid this problem. The arms should be a lot longer!! I don't see the possibility of getting 2 bikes on this rack at all with my vehicle at this time, unless you want to remove the pedals from the inside bike. As far as the way the rack carried my bike, I was watching it in the rear view mirror, and it seemed to ride pretty well. I checked it for any slippage, but everything held tight OK. I will update this review as my experience with the rack increases.
Good Product
I bought this product at the REI store in Nashville, TN. I live in Huntsville, AL and it's about a 2 hours drive. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how it goes on my acura tl. I loaded my mnt bike on the thing and hit I-65 South going at speeds up to 95 and 100 mph and it was as steady as the rock of gibralter back there. I was impressed!! I feel like while it's kind of expensive for a recreational biker like me that it's a good product.
Would only fit ONE bike!
This rack seemed fine but it absolutely would not fit our two bikes at one time. After messing with it for some time, we had scratched the paint on the trunk and realized we would have to remove pedals from both bikes to make it work. Bummer.
easy to use
We bought it about a month ago to bring out bikes on vacation. Since it was so easy to use then, we've been using it at least once a week. We are very happy with it and would recommend it.
easy to set up
This is easy enough to set up, and holds my bikes secure while driving. I am curious to see how the straps that hold the bike will age though.
