My New Favorite Shorts

I went into REI needing a decent pair of shorts for camping and climbing. I told myself I wouldn't look at price, I would just buy whatever fit and looked the best. These were what I chose. They are pricey, at least by my humble standards, I've never even bought pants that cost this much, but I'd buy them again. They fit very nice. The waist feels like it was cut for my frame. The leg pockets are awesome, the curved zipper is brilliant, it follows the natural motion of your arm as it swings, so zipping and unzipping is easy. This seems like a small victory, but once you wear them a while, you realize how great this design is. The legs are a little long, but I'm not that tall. Only 5'11". When I'm biking, I usually roll the leg up an inch so my knees don't catch the fabric too much as I peddle. After climbing at Devil's Lake, I jumped in the lake and as long as it's sunny, these shorts dry quickly enough. Even if they're wet though, the dark color doesn't really look wet. While climbing, they move with your body better than most shorts. It's easier to reach tough footholds. All in all, these shorts are incredible. I never thought I'd spend this much on a pair of shorts, but I don't regret it one bit.

Do the people who make these ever wear them?

I own several pairs of Kuhl brand shorts, they are awful. They have a number of features that make them extremely frustrating to wear. - There is a huge flap across the inside of the zipper. This is extremely inconvenient for men who use the zipper for things besides getting dressed (i.e. using the restroom). - Many Kuhl brand shorts have extremely aggressive zippers on the outside. They will go through your laundry and they WILL destroy everything you love. - In spite of their exotic-appearing materials, these shorts stink worse after 2 days than any pair of cotton shorts i own. I bought these for traveling and it is embarrassing how much odor they contain after a day or two of use. I strongly suggest looking at other brands, unless these issues have been addressed in the most recent years.

Awesome Shorts

I bought these shorts in the store rather than online, which I would recommend to get a proper fit and desired color. Although the waist feels a little tight for the size given, the shorts are nice and loose around the thigh. I love the mesh lined pockets because it makes them more breathable. The material and construction of the shorts are solid. I have used these for hiking, fishing, casual, disc golf, paintball, biking, and even sand volleyball. It has shown very little signs of wear and no rips or loose threads.

Worth the Money

I almost didn't buy these because of the price, and now I just bought a second pair 2 years later. 1st pair is still in great condition. I just wanted another color. After two years of traveling from the Mongolian great plains to the middle of the Amazon these still look great without any damage. NONE after two years of heavy use through tough conditions. Great material that feels awesome and dries quickly. Doesn't seem to stain even. AFTER 2 Years!

First Impressions

Took these out of the package last night and wore them the first time today. Great shorts. Feel tough, feel light. I'll be living in these this summer. Only thing I don't like is the velcro on the back pockets. Everything else feels sturdy and well made.

Not What They Appear

From the picture on the REI website the shorts appear to be tapered at the bottom. Instead they are a VERY loose fit. If you want a cargo short that fits a bit closer and tapers towards the knee, then this is NOT the short you want. A more realistic picture and description would have saved me a lot of hassle. Thanks REI.

Kuhl cargo shorts

I bought the cargo shorts few weeks ago and not just that they fit well, but the light weight and the thin material make these shorts perfect for all kinds of out-door activities. In addition I found great quality and little details, like hidden zipper ends and in- site pockets, useful for cell phone or wallet.

Kuhl has not disappointed

Cargo pockets are very functional...first time really using these type of pockets because normally the items rattle around and annoy me. Fits great, and I like the look of the longer leg. Love the material...soft, but durable.
