Cozy all-around helmet
This was a considerable upgrade for me from a Bern helmet. I ride my bike nearly every day so it's been worth the money to me because it's So much lighter and more ventilated. The only thing clunky about the adjustment is that you can tweak it under both ears and then under the jaw; the fit can get pretty nice, but it can mean frequent reworking of the straps. Part of the reason that doesn't bother me is that the roc-lock in the back feels nice and snug on my head and I like that it's a more natural extension of the way my head's already shaped (plus visor) instead of a racing helmet that has a bunch-a-business in the back.
Saved my life
I went over the handle bars while mountain biking and went head first into a tree. The helmet broke but my head didn't. It was a pretty serious crash and I ended up with 9 stitches and a pretty serious concussion. If not for this helmet I would either be dead or suffered a very serious head injury. Other than that the helmet vents well, is highly adjustable, and the visor is functional.
Not Just for Mountain Trail Biking
As a road biking enthusiast, I wanted a helmet that was lightweight, that offered a lot of ventilation -- I mostly bike in the hot and humid Southeast -- and which was easily adjustable. The Giro Men's Hex Bike Helmet perfectly conforms to those criteria. Size adjustment is simple, and I like the way the helmet fits. Mostly, however, I like the ventilation. I find it easy to adjust -- and once adjusted, it doesn't change -- and the adjustable visor. The extra protection in the back is also reassuring. Okay, so I ordered the purple version of the Giro Hex, but my bike is a vintage-yet-update Italian road racing classic: a 22-speed, Masi Gran Corsa... and it happens to be purple. The hemet is everything claimed by Giro and REI.
This thing saved my life
My previous helmet was the same model, just an earlier version and different color. I crashed on a ride and it cracked, which is safe to say my "life saver". I was fine after hitting the deck pretty hard. I'm glad I was wearing this helmet. I liked it so much, I bought the same one. It's proven to work, so I didn't bother looking at other models.
Great Urban Helmet
This was a replacement for a heavier and less expensive helmet which did the job in a crash. Compared to a road helmet, the Hex sits further down on the sides and the back, which feels like it gives more protection. Light weight, comfortable, and easy to adjust makes the extra cost worthwhile. Since everyone has a slightly differently shaped head, there is no substitute from trying on multiple helmets in the store if possible.
Great helmet for hot areas
This is the best helmet I have used for getting air through the helmet. Great for Desert riding
Great helmet for a good price
I had a very old Giro helmet and it was time to change it. I have this one for 2 months. He is light and very well ventilated which is really important as it is hot and humid in the summer hear. I also like the color between red and orange. Very fashionable.
Solid & Comfortable
For the price, this helmet has met all my comfort and safety needs, while meeting a fitting style. The helmet feels sturdy and the fitting system has functioned properly for quite some time now. The padding does feel slighter thinner than other similar helmets.
Comfortable and fashionable.
I try to ride at least every other day ten to twenty miles. My longest ride is 35 miles. This is my first helmet and although the size seems to be a little smaller than I expected, the helmet still fits me and is comfortable all through the 35 mile ride. Seems like it will be nice in the summer. Will try to update after more use.
Great helmet, with one minor exception
I liked this helmet the best over all the other options at the store, both the other Giro models and other brands such as Smith and Troy Lee. I really like the adjustable visor and the weight of the helmet. Fit is pretty good except for one spot on the back adjustment strap that rubs a little bit where my neck meets the back of my head. I notice it more when I'm looking up which is most of the time when you're on a bike. I tried adjusting it a couple different ways and it still happens. Although it is noticeable, it hasn't been bad enough to keep me from using the helmet... yet. That's really the only reason it only gets 4 stars. Otherwise it's been a great helmet for the first few weeks of having it.
