Chronicly cold feet NOW TOASTY!

I bought these for my 81 yr old mother with a torn ligament in her foot and also has alzhiemer's disease. She has chronically cold feet. I've tried electric blankets, down blankets, electric socks, toe warmers, etc. She forgets she has all these items and they get misplace and lost. But, she always remembers these down, pink slippers! She loves them and is finally warm and is more willing to stay off that foot because she's comfortable. BEST PURCHASE I'VE MADE for her in a long time! I hope REI make a down slipper with a bit more sole in the future so she can go out on the porch the feed her cats. That would be perfect.

Missing ankle elastic

I love my mens version of these, but when I bought the women's' for my girlfriend we found out that it does not have the elastic band around the ankle that keeps the bootie on your foot, so they just fall right off. Both the men's and the kid's have an ankle band but not the women's - weird.

Love These!

I took these snow camping this week, and my tent mates and I all took turns wearing them. Everyone is obsessed! The temperature was between 0 and 15 the entire trip, and this was the only way my friend and I could warm our feet up after hiking and setting up camp. They are literally like sleeping bags for your feet. They are so easy to pack, too, because they squish down very small and are lightweight. The soles are durable enough to wear outside of the tent a little bit for cooking and going to the bathroom without wrecking the booties or getting them wet. They are breathable and didn't soak up moisture the few times I got snow all over them. LOVE THESE!

Warm ankles, cold feet!

I love how tall these slippers are, keeping the sides of my feet and my ankles warm, just as warm as wool fleece that I usually wear for slippers. However, there's absolutely nothing on the insoles to keep the bottoms of your feet warm, just foam padding covered with a thin layer of soft fabric. I need something warm and squishy! Walking around in my chilly kitchen, the bottoms of my feet were freezing. However, they were warmer when I added some fleece insoles, and I thought about keeping them then, but they are also slippery on the bottom, in spite of the rubbery dots. I like slippers with a real rubber sole. So although I love the height and how they keep my ankles warm, I'm going to return these. REI, please redesign these with a better outsole and warm, squishy insole, and I'll come back to try them again. Meanwhile, I'll be wearing shearling slippers.

Such mixed feelings about these

I have had 3 pair of these. They are so cozy and warm I love to wear them around the house. The tops wear well but the soles wear out very quickly. They are just fabric with little plastic beads. The fabric thins and all I'm left with are the nice cozy tops. I have gone to the trouble of gluing more durable material (suede) to the soles and this works until the glue wears out. I love the down uppers, but hate the flimsy soles. Why can't these be made with a more durable sole?

Warm and comfy

I bought these because my feet are always freezing cold. Putting on socks doesn't work. I toss these on when I get home from work and my feet are roasty toasty within the hour -- sometimes they get too warm and I need to take them off for a bit. No socks required. They're great for a trip to the mailbox or to take the dog around the block but they are not made to wear around outside; they're slippers. I love them and am planning to buy a pair now for my mom. One note -- I wear a size 9 in shoes so I bought these in L and they're a bit big. I would size down a little bit.

Prefer the older version.....

These serve their purpose.. My feet stay warm and they are really comfortable! My only complaint happens to be about the top part of the boot :/ The older version had a drawstring around the top so you could tighten the ankle up, which was great and needless to say helped them stay on securely. Not to mention kept all the warmth inside more effeciently.... As you can see, the new design does not have the drawstring feature, just a snap around the top.. Which does not accomodate those with smaller ankles, regardless of whether or not you wear thick socks. Doubt I will buy these things again once my current pair wears out, unless I really don't find a suitable option from any other outdoor company. The drawstring feature WITH the snap was great in the old version..... Don't "fix" something when it isn't broken REI. :(

Cozy but flawed...

I got these in the mail today and was super excited. Winter is cold and I hate paying to heat my house:) They are definitely cozy! However, as a few other reviewers have stated the elastic that is supposed to be in the instep to keep them secure is basically useless, so the fabric slouches down and bunches up under your heel as you walk. I rolled the cuff over and that seems to have helped a bit. The problem isn't so bad as to be a deal breaker but it is a little disappointing, I have come to expect better quality from REI. I would love to see a redesign of these that includes an elastic cinch strap around the ankle to help keep them in place.

Down on Down Booties

I was looking forward to these booties because my house is always cold. they are great if you're not walking around in them. with each step the foot slips to the outside and eventually completely off the sole. the bootie is possibly too wide unless your foot is really wide. they are really warm and i'll continue to wear them while lounging, but not walking up and down steps or any distance more than 25 feet or so.

I wish they worked!

My husband has a pair of these that are perfect, so I had him pick me up a pair. Though they are toasty warm and comfy, they lack the elastic band within the lining that would hold your heel in place. They have one that goes over the front of your ankle to keep your foot from sliding forward, but unlike the mens' ones mine have nothing to keep the heel from sliding back. So as soon as I take a couple of steps, my heel has slid well back from the heel of the boot. The boot material itself is just down and a shell like a sleeping bag so no support there to keep your foot on top of the sole of the bootie. Not remotely functional, I don't know how any woman could walk in these. Both of the pair are the same so I assume it's not just a random defect. Oh well, back to UGGs.
