Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Undershirt As a wildland firefighter in Alaska and all over the lower 48, I have been using this shirt for years. I wear it under my long sleeve Nomex work clothes. It is thin and light enough to keep me from overheating when its hot and still helps insulate a bit when it's cool. Unlike cotton which absorbs sweat and stays wet, this shirt dries out incredibly fast. It's a natural fiber so it won't melt if it gets too hot unlike synthetic undershirts. I've been using the same shirt for weeks at a time for at least 5 fire seasons and though it getting a little ragged, it has held up far longer that I would have expected. I won't use anything else. Highly recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Half the Bargain @ half the price These would be half a bargain at half the price. The thread count is sparse compared to 3 other brands I've purchased for equal or less money in US stores. The elastic band is thin and flimsy and matches the fabric. After the third wash (cold water with wool sweaters and wool long underwear) and air dry, the fabric shrank so bad I thought I had put on my wife's by accident. What was Men's Long now are women's medium. The length covers 3/4 my torso and the arms are 2 inches too short. Advice is to find another brand if time allows. The cost for these is far more than they are worth.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from See through shirt This product should be described as sheer, and then as being black. When I put this on it looked liked I had my wife's panty hose on my arms and torso. I could see the hairs on my arm clearly. This would make it a perfect set of long underwear or first layer, which the box it came in labeled it as. Since I was looking for a shirt I could wear by itself, I will be returning this. I am not THAT confident in showing off my chest and abs. If I was looking to layer up fora winter hike, this would be a good start. If I was looking for something to wear while running everyday out and about stuff, this is not it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light but warm and breathable These silk undergarments are very thin but still provide surprising warmth without overheating. I find them useful under a regular shirt on days when it's just a tad cooler than I'd like. They are even good to wear at the office and/or under dress clothes. The cost seems high for such a thin material (it is silk after all), but it will still be a good value if it holds up over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WARM & LIGHT! Light weight but the weight is not mentioned in the description. On my scale: 3.7 oz, or 104 grams. Great product and very comfortable. dries quickly for the next day's adventure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So light you forget you are wearing it. Loved this. Did some cold weather camping and having this extra layer of clothing on was fantastic especially since I forgot I was wearing it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, but . . . This shirt seems thinner than the one I got about 15 years ago, therefore it probably won't be as warm & won't last as long. It is very sheer. I'm not going to return it because I've read reviews at another merchant which also made the same comments, so I don't know if there is an alternative. Maybe REI will work with the suppliers to find a more substantial version that is still affordable. Silk is an excellent first layer. It is comfortably soft, and gives a lot of warmth for such a thin garment. Though I almost always hand wash it, it dries quickly. When camping you could wash it in the morning and it would be dry enough to wear before the sun gets low & the temperature drops. Super comfy in the sleeping bag at night. I avoid petroleum based fabrics that are staticy & melt on your skin in a fire. They say that these silk threads of bug juice hold warmth when wet, as does sheep fur. I know it breathes & handles sweat well. I carry silk long underwear in my day pack routinely in the winter because it folds up so small & can save your comfort & life if the weather goes bad. The shirt is more of a backpacking item for me. I think they've been selling these at REI for a long time, I can't believe I'm the first one to write a review.

how warm does it keep you when your on the chair lift snowboarding

Asked by: offtrak
Unfortunately it is tough to say how warm you will be because warmth depends on so many different variables including activity level, metabolism, perspiration as well as the other clothing layers you are wearing. That being said, this is a lightweight base layer so it is great for mild temperatures.
