Made it the entire PCT
Well I loved this cup. K-Cop and I carried it the entire PCT. It was our one item of comfort. We cooked coffee most morning and made fun drinks in them. They held up the entire trail and we are still enjoying them. They kept our coffee warm and kept us happy. It was was kind of funny, when we hit Idllywild (130 or something) another hiker saw us pull them out and instead of making fun of us (which happened a little at the beginning of our hike) he went to the store and bought one similar. Its the little pleasures out there that keep you going and this was one of them.
Works great for me
I've had this mug about 2 yrs. Take it on all my backpacking & camping adventures, plus some in-town use. I haven't had the dribbling or tearing problems mentioned by other reviewers. The wide base means it doesn't fit in narrower car cup-holders (if you have an adjustable holder it might fit), but it also doesn't fall over when sitting on slightly uneven surfaces & pouring in hot liquids. Nice and light so I don't feel guilty about carrying it, and you can pack other things inside when not in use. Like it so much I bought one for my boyfriend who was jealous every time he saw me use it.
Not impressed
I bought this mug because it was looking for a lightweight insulated mug for backpacking. For what I paid for this mug, I'd expect it to be a lot better piece of gear. The lid does not fit/seal very well. I'm always afraid that it will start to dribble down my chin when I take a drink. The volume markings on the inside of the mug are so hard to see that they are completely useless to me. The last time that I washed my mug, the foam insulation sleeve slid off of the plastic body of the mug. I am not impressed with this mug. I bought it two and a half years ago, and I'm rather surprised that Sea to Summit still is making this mug.
It works for me!
I just bought my InsulMug and have been using it everyday, it has replaced my regular mug @ home & I take it with me just about every where I go. My lid fits perfectly, hot or cold. Nothing spills out especially while drinking & I never burn my lips. I filled it to the top with hot tea and took it with me on a 4 mile walk around a lake and it maintained a good temperature & did not spill. The price is not bad especially considering that I was going to drop about $40 on a different mug. It's super light weight & doubles as food storage container for backpacking. The measurements inside are a little though to read but was an added bonus as I was just looking for a good insulated mug and found it.
Works for winter camping
Bought this recently after years of looking for the perfect cup for winter camping where it needs to be an all purpose food & drink container. This is close. It's very light weight, provides okay insulation for hot drinks & foods, is large enough and wide enough to function as a bowl, is easy enough to clean. I had no trouble with the lid, unlike some other users. Haven't had it long enough to judge durability, though. Only down side from my point of view: it's hard to brew good tea in anything plastic. But I'm not going to take a ceramic mug into the backcountry.
Good Insulated Mug
A good mug, and holds temp very well. See my review I did on youtube below.
Mug Fulfills It's Intended Purpose
I bought this platic mug for backpacking (and, hello, drinking coffee!) after comparing it to a more expensive titanium version. Yes, the titanium very was cool, expensive and light, but this mug (at a third of the price) was more what I was looking for. I used this cup in camp, drinking my morning cup, sitting in my tent, wrapped in my sleeping bag. It was sturdy enough to sit on the ground without falling over, it kept my coffee hot, and the lid did not leak. It's light enough that I'll take it as a comfort item.
Expensive dribble mug
We bought two of these for a bike tour down the length of the Rocky Mountains. We ended up throwning them in the trash outside Yellowstone. The lids seem to fit well at first, but once warm liquid is in the mug, the fit is poor and the precious coffee leaks down your chin. Oh, the humanity. Insulation is poor, too, but that's secondary to the leaky design. Junk.
Issues with lid and insulating sleeve
Rating this as a backpacking item: With the lid on it's a dribbler, upper lip can't conform to the lid, lid holes really should be lined up with 2 particular spots on the cup for the lower lip to conform, lid fits loosely or very loosely if it's not at the same temperature as the cup. Sleeve slips off too easily. Does keep liquids hot for a good while in warm weather, but not great for cold weather use unless you consume your food or beverage quickly, drinking hole doesn't seal. GSI Infinity Mug is far superior for the same weight. This is a big miss by S2S.
Excellent Mug
Excellent Insulated Mug; Perfect size for hot drinks as well as backpacking meals/hot oatmeal/soups etc. Watch girth hitched lid loop as it easily comes undone and could get lost. I drilled a tiny hole in the lip of the cup and used the string provided to tie the lid to the cup so always attached (can't get lost or fall off) without compromising the cup or insulation. Yes, the insulation sleeve does slide around (when i wash the cup) but is easily twisted back into place --no issue for me. Took it on 12 day backpacking trip and worked perfectly--fellow trekkers were envious of the size/volume and lid / insulation features.
