We absolutely love this pack! Our son loves it more than us I think! We have taken this pack to many different countries and our son has yet to have a melt down while inside the harness. I would recommend this pack to anyone with kids! We have two dogs and it makes things way easier when traveling around Europe.

Too small for most men?

Tried to decide between Kelty FC 3.0 and the Deuter Kid Comfort III. I was very surprised that the Kelty was far too small for me. I'm 6'0" and 220lbs. With the help of an REI associate we adjusted all the straps to fit me and the hip belt came across the lower part of my ribs. It looked like I was wearing child's backpack. Kelty does not make a bigger version. Only up to an 18inch torso. My torso measured at 22inches and I'm not an especially tall guy! The Deuter easily fit me, was much more comfortable, was easier to get a child in and out, and had better support for a child of various sizes. I'm extremely cheap but the Deuter is well worth the extra 89 bucks! I do like the sun shade better on the Kelty.

Great Product!

My husband and I wanted to find something that was durable, reliable and would grow with our son. We bought it when he was 18 months old and are still using it now almost a year later. From the first time we sat him in it and strapped it on, we loved it. My husband is 6'2" and I'm 5'4" and it very comfortably fits us both and is easy to adjust between us. Our son LOVES it and has never complained about spending all afternoon hiking in it. It's comfortable enough that he could see everything around us and also fall asleep in too. He didn't even mind the attached cover when we used it in the rain. There's room enough for everything you need to take with you on a nice hike as well. We've been thrilled with it and would gladly buy another one.

GREAT Carrier!

I hike with my 8 month old daughter almost daily with this pack. She loves it! She is comfortable, shaded from bugs, branches, and the sun by the canopy, and has access to toys that hang on the toy loops. Often, within an hour or so, she falls asleep and rests comfortably. I hike in comfort as well: the hip belt does wonders to take the weight off my shoulders, and there are so many ways to adjust the straps and redistribute weight across your back and hips, it's practically effortless to carry my 20lb daughter AND enough stuff for the hike. We've done 40 miles just since getting the pack last week. When she's not with me, I use the seat and the area below it to hold stuff sacks or a sleeping bag. I can't say enough good things about this pack, it is absolutely worth the price.

Better than expected

We really enjoy hiking so we wanted something that was lightweight and durable and that looked nice, too. We are very satisfied with this product. My husband and I are very different heights, and we can easily switch off carrying our toddler with a few easy adjustments in the straps. It takes a few tugs and pulls on various straps, but you can always get it to fit just right. I (the mom) have no problems carrying my daughter on longer walks. She really enjoys being in it, too. Every now and then I'll put her in the backpack to go to the store or run little errands, and she's always excited to see things at mom and dad's level. Definitely recommend.

awesome way to bond w/ child

I have last years model 2009 and absolutely love it. I used to be an avid hiker and, thanks to my daughter, am back into the game. This baby carrier is super supportive and comfortable. Great way to carry baby not only on hikes, but with the elevated position she will see more at the zoo and parks. Bring it to the beach so you can have 2 free hands to carry other necessities. The sun shade roof also works well when she is on the beach blanket, just stick the exposed frame ends into the sand. My only complaint is the location of the toy tabs. They are on the side so if she lets go of a toy it falls out of reach for her. Easy fix is to just use an additional strap on the toy to make things more acessible. When she outgrows this thing I plan on just removing the baby seat and putting a stuff sack or two in its place and use it as a regular backpack.

Money well spent!

It seems they thought of everything when designing this product! The only complaint I have is that once I tightened it to my liking I had a ton of tension strap excess hanging all over the place. It's an easy fix but for the price how about a bit of elastic! I'm rather short, 5'4, so I don't see many people having this issue. One thing I didn't expect was the sliding lumbar pad! This pack will fit just about any adult torso! A very ingenious feature. I was also surprised how light the pack actually is. It's got some bulk to it and I expected to weigh a bit more. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase. You'd be hard pressed to find a better carrier.

Best Carrier on the Market

We have taken our Kelty snow shoeing, hiking, museumes, theme parks, aquariums, and just about any where else one can think of. When it comes to safety I would trust our children in nothing else. We had an experience with our oldest where we slipped on the ice and the kickstand transfred all the weight from her to the parent carrying her. I used it at the Monterary Bay Aquarium and where children in strollers were not able to get close to some of the exhibits I would just walk right up to the exhibits turn sideways and she got a prime view of the different tanks, making this the best day trip ever.

One major flaw kills this product

I was really excited about taking my 11 month old daughter in the pack on her first hike last weekend and to try out the pack. My daughter weighs 19 pounds and and also packed on an extra 7-8 pounds of gear. I'm glad I chose a short 1.5 mile roundtrip hike because the locking pin for the torso length slipped 6 times over just 1 mile. I ended up hiking the final 1/2 mile with all the weight on my shoulders. I saw similar issues posted on [...], but saw comments that it was supposedly fixed by August 2009. My pack had a production date of 10/09. I contacted Kelty and they were very interested in getting this pack back so they can analyze it. I'll leave it up to REI to do that and will update this review after trying another one that hopefully does not have this issue...otherwise, this pack is outstanding!

Torso pin slips

We have an older 3.0 backpack that we just got around to using for the very first time and immediately the torso pin slips out and the pad goes to the top. I need that torso pin at least 3 notches down so when it slips it makes it very uncomfortable on your back and you have to take the backpack off to fix and then it's only fixed for a couple minutes tops before it slips again.
