Used this lamp all over the world and she never fails. One of my most treasured pieces of gear that always come with me, be it backpacking out west or just bumming around europe.
I have had the old Tikka for years and still use it all the time while hiking, biking, or around the house. Bought the Tikka 2 for my girlfriend and it's just as good. We've used these lamps on multi-day hikes all around CO and Hawaii in all kinds of weather, and they have never let us down. They are compact enough that you can pack them anywhere, even if space is tight. And they are very durable, so having them in the bottom of your backpack or slung on the back of your camelback while mtn biking isn't a problem. They fit well on my head and don't get heavy or annoying, even after hours of hiking and sweating. There are brighter lights out there that are nice when you need to see far or light up a large area, but for personal use these lights are perfect.
First off, its a good light for its intended purpose...I however wanted a light to trail run with. Not a good light for that task. I purchased it due to its light weight and stability on my head. However, I learned that under the canopy of trees the Tikka 2 was something I settled in to accept as lackluster. When racing Ultras, I saw first hand that there are other lights on the market that are of lighter weight and more bright. I know from experience that when running over stumps, debris, rocks etc, that I would hold back due to the poor lighting. If your trainiing run takes place in the late evening and you return home in the dark, this is not the light for you. If you want it for walks, hiking, car camping, its perfect. The 40 lumens is probably sufficient.
Use this mostly for around the campsite at night. Is a replacement for two we have on our motorcycle in Europe. It works just fine, bright enough, and the low/high setting is good. Not sure what else I would expect from it.
Bought two of these about 4 years ago and they are still going strong. The beam(s) could be brighter, even on the high setting, but battery life is very good and they go for days. I wouldn't plan on a night hike with these as the beam is a little too dim but for a daytime backpacker's typical night uses stumbling around the camp at 2am to tinkle they work wonderfully. These have come with me on several multi-day excursions, fishing trips and camping trips and have never failed me.
This is awesome. Would recommend this or similar to any camper. Hands free use is super cool. Best recommendation to me was from a woman camper, so I was sold. The only features that I would like to see would be added third level of brightness but not needed, and a red light for night vision. Not sure about battery life, still working on first set after 3+ nights of full use on low setting, so this may take a while. Even without changes, I will be getting another one.
This thing is a beast. If you find a better headlamp for the price, let me know. Very bright, long lasting, durable, adjustable, and light weight. What else do you want??
I love this headlamp! My boyfriend and I often go on hikes early in the morning or after the sun has set (ie: backpacking, hiking across the Grand Canyon, etc) and this has been a lifesaver! I appreciate that its light settings are adjustable and it is bright enough for me to see the far-away green eyes of deer in the distance. It fits nicely, and I have absolutely no complaints! I am LITERALLY a happy camper!
This headlamp is wonderful. It does a great job of providing hands free illumination. It is nice and bright. It is very comfortable on your head and has 3 settings- bright to see far distances, dim so you can tone it down around people and not blind them, and strobe if you are running or something. It would be cool to have a red filter so that it doesn't kill your night vision but for the price it is great.
This headlamp is nice because it is very bright, but I only had it for one year before I started having problems with it. Even in the lightest of rain, water would get into it, and the battery case is shot now. I cleaned it out regularly and took very good care of it, but it is no longer a reliable lamp for me-only turns on about 10% of the time without having to mess around with it to get it to work.
