Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome little lantern Trying to downsize some of my older camping equipment, and after reading the reviews on this, thought it might be worth a try. This little lantern is definitely a keeper. It is MUCH quieter than the Coleman propane single and double mantle lanterns, it's much easier to pack, the piezo ignition is a plus, the light output on high with the frosted globe is much easier on the eyes, and the adjustment feature allows the lantern to be dimmed to barely lit. Like other reviewers mentioned, there was a mantle in the box with the lantern. And while the REI near my home does carry the mantles for this lantern now, I plan to stock up, just so I have extras on hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best buy This lantern is by far the best one I have used in 30 years. It does exactly what it is supposed to do,provide light for the campsite. It can be easily adjusted and will not light up the entire forest. Lets face it were camping because we want to get away from "city lights". On a usable setting it will easily last a weekend and a half. The hanging wire is a definite plus, although it does get hot. So hang it in a safe place or get the optional butane can base (you can use it for your stove also). The carrying case makes it less prone to break if packed improperly. All in all you cant go wrong with this light. The Primus yellowstone stove is a equally goood product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hate to give a perfect score but I must I am floored at how excellent this lantern is. I love having a lantern at the campsite however most lanterns are just too heavy to add to your pack. While I would still say this lamp is a creature comfort (I mean really you do not NEED a lantern) this creature comfort is worth the small amount of weight and space in your pack. The light output is smooth and bright with minimal noise. The provided case works very well. If I had to find something wrong with the lantern it would be a lack of subtlety with adjustments. The lamp is either on low or high more or less. This is hardly a problem really. I do not think I will every own another lantern unless it is a second one of these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and brilliant. Amazing light for the size. Very happy with the lamp. Bright and brilliant output for a little size. It has a yellowish color that is easier to the eyes than LED lamps. Will not fit another brand mantle, make sure you get extra Primus mantles. It will use other brand of Isopro/butane mix along with MSR, Coleman, Primus, Master Glow, etc... As you can see on the pics I included. Enjoy the outdoors, get lost, often!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW!!! Lit this thing off and I was amazed!! No really. It really has a great light output. For the size it beats all the lanterns that I have tried. You can actually set and read and not have to set 18 inches away. Lites fast when cold. Can be dimmed down to barely a light. While it is a bright light the emitted heat from the top is quite small. I could comfortably hang on to the provided hang wire for some time with no heat reaching my hand. I think that you could hang it from a tree limb or inside the tent without any problem. Use care of course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lantern! This thing is great, I am not a big fan of the harsh light LED headlamps put out, but do enjoy their functionality. After a recent camping trip I used one of those big 2 mantel propane lanterns and went on a 3 hour long middle of the night hike. I found the light given off by the lantern to be so pleasant, that I thought I would give this thing a try (since the large propane lantern is not practical for backpacking). I received this thing, and couldn't be happier with it. I was a little worried that it was going to have a harsh light since its powered by the same stuff my jetboil runs, but to my surprise it cast the same charming glow as a propane lantern. Things to note: -The website says that it does not come with a mantel, but when I opened the package there was in fact one mantel inside. -The instructions say that it only works with the Primus fuel, but I have been running mine on jetboil fuel without issue -As others have mentioned, the hard case it comes with is a little bulky, but I am sure that it will protect the glass globe if you toss your pack on the ground, drop it on a rock -This thing is very adjustable and it is easy to appropriately set the light for a given situation

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favorite Lantern There are lighter and smaller lanterns, but this is my favorite. Super easy to light with the auto ignition. The frosted globe creates a nice diffused light, and the lightweight wire hanger design is the best I've seen. Just loop the wire over a branch, and hook the wire back on itself. The protective case can be a little bulky in a back pack. It uses the same fuel canisters as most stoves, so it is nice to be able to use the same fuel source for all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This lantern does come with mantles! I just purchased this lantern. The statement under Details saying that this lantern does not come with mantles is incorrect; my lantern came with 3 mantles. Hope this prevents someone from buying too many extra mantles. Otherwise, the lantern looks to be a quality product!

What's the lowest reliable operating temp for this lantern?

Asked by: akalpenglow
There is not a specific lowest temperature that this lantern will work at because there are several variables that will affect the answer. This includes the ambient temperature, the altitude and the mix of propane/isobutane in the canister you are using. Generally speaking, propane/isobutane tends to drop in performance the colder it is below freezing.

I needed them too, I called and placed an order over the phone. They came straight from the stores, so if you're close to one just pop on in and see if they have it before you order it. Hope this helps.

How well do the mantles hold up to the rigors of being carried in a pack? Are they fairly durable, or do they crumble to ash and have to be replaced daily?

Asked by: JAMMINA
The mantles are fairly durable but we do recommend keeping them in their packaging if you are carrying extra mantles in your pack.
