Convenient, but could be better
I used one of these on my A.T. thru-hike earlier this year with a 1 liter platypus bottle. It was great to have the functionality of the platypus and the convenience of a bladder while hiking. I used it every day for 4 months and 9 days. The clip broke within a month, but it was easy to rig it to my shoulder strap with a cheap carabiner. Frustrating, but no big deal - I got used to things breaking. The most annoying thing about this is the lack of on/off valve. If there is water in your platypus, this WILL leak. It doesn't matter if there is water in the tube or not. Totally sucks in below-freezing weather or when you are in a dry area. Overall, it makes the platypus more useful, I just wish it was made better. Oh yeah, mold will form in 3 months or so of daily use ;-)
Nice Option
I have a couple soft bottle from platy and during short, intense training rides this hose works great when connected to a soft bottle and put in the jersey pocket. For me, it is more simple to drink from the hose then reach down and grab a water bottle. And for the shorter rides I don't need a full hydration packet. Easy to clean and use. The clip for this hose I also use on my other hydration products.
Replaced after 10 years
I actually have one of Platypus' original hydration bags. After 10 years mold started to form and I could not clean it anymore. 10 years I got out of this hose and finally had to get a new one.
Hydration On The Go
I alternated the use of both the 2.0 L & 3.0 L Hosers {Depending on ambient temperature} on my 2184.3 mile journey up the Appalachian Trail. The bite valve does leak on your shirt while hiking, but this can be cured by adding a 90 degree on/off valve. No leaks after this upgrade, and it fits your mouth well on the move. Because of the small opening in the bag, the reservoir is harder to keep clean than the much heavier, wide mouth, designs. Over the course of over 2000 miles of daily use, my bags never grew mold, because I cleaned and flushed them every week. I went through several bite valves in the course of this adventure. I washed my tube and valves before my first use and never experienced any taste from the silicone. I was using filtered water and quite enjoyed the water along the Trail, even the sketchy sources. Along the Trail, however you need a bite valve cover to keep the valve clean, as your pack is on the ground frequently. The retaining clip corrodes from your sweat and becomes difficult to use. There are compact plastic clips available that easily solve that issue. I rated this a 5 because it is the lightest weight, high volume bladder on the market, and the system survived a very brutal environment. It never got babied.
sooo easy to drink from
We use these with the 1L platypus collapsible bottles in the side pockets of my husband's REI Galaxy pack. As compared with some of the other drink hoses, this one is extremely easy to drink from! Longer hose than we need but we're very happy with it.
Excellent Item
Bought this since I have an older Platypus bottle and holder; the one that attaches to a belt. it was a pain to keep taking off the belt to use the platypus bottle, so when I say this at REI, I had to get it.
Destroyer of the taste of water
I purchased this to use with my Platypus reservoir. The water directly from the reservoir is great. Add this drinking tube and you won't even let your dog drink the foul taste that emerges from the bite valve. There has to be a better way to produce this.
Excellent Item
I had an old platypus bottle and belt pouch that you had to take completely off your belt to use. one day in REI I saw the tube and knew I had to get it. Makes life much easier.
