Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool, but screw driver hard to use This multi-tool is nice and functional -- especially the lock-out feature that keeps the knife and other tools locked out while you're using it. The only drawback to this tool is that philips screw driver is almost impossible to get to. The side it is on is very narrow so it's hard to pull out if you have medium or large fingers. Also, the philips screw driver has an odd design -- it is flat on top with notches for the four angles. That makes it tricky to use. I don't use this multi-tool for screwing many things so it's never been a huge problem, but I could see it being annoying for someone who needs to use that tool frequently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Buy It!!! If you need a multi-tool and want to stay below 40 bucks this is for you!!!! Loose it in the woods or break it on that wilderness adventure you won't be heartbroken.....cause it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I was very happy with the quality and usefulness of this thing, Gerber got it right! Yeah I own high dollar, super light, made of "gold" super tools.....but this guy is the one with me on every camping trip! If you don't need a flux capacitor on your next "back to the future" journey this is the tool for you.....just buy the dang thing and save the $$$$ for the Thermorest neo-air you've been drooling over!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You Get What You Pay For I am a Park Ranger at a state park and my multi-tool gets used every single day without fail. That being said, for almost 2 years i carried a Suspension and put it through the paces. Gripes are few but pretty important. the pliers do not offer much holding force. i don't know if it is because of the amount of flex in the handle hinge or something else. they will not break a moderately rusted nut. they also do not offer much twisting power without bending the jaws. the tips of both screwdrivers chipped during the first use. not badly enough to render them useless, but still not what i was hoping to see. lastly, and most nit-picky, the belt sheath that came with it did not last 3 months on my belt under everyday use. the belt loops ripped out of the seams. i don't consider this to be a terrible fault however, because i get into and out of a vehicle constantly, am walking through thick underbrush frequently, and constantly snagging it on things. no belt holders last long. That being said there were things i really liked about the Suspension. first is the spring loaded plier handle. it makes working 6hp boat motors more comfortable and removing fish hooks a less clumsy operation. second, the knife blade is incredibly sharp and when unfolded fits in the hand in a very comfortable and controllable way. i have removed countless splinters, metal and glass chunks, and tick heads from myself, which is much easier and safer with a sharp controllable tool. and the pro of this tool which makes it a serious contender is the price. this was my first multi-tool and the very reasonable price is what made me finally break down and buy one. when i lost my Suspension on a camping trip to Maine last fall i mourned it's loss. i have been without a multi-tool for almost a year now and have finally been pushed to buying one. i am replacing my suspension with a Leatherman Wave. i am hoping that it will be a sturdier and heavier duty tool than my Suspension. for twice the price it better be. you get what you pay for with the Suspension, and if you will use it for light duty only i would expect years of happy performance. if you are going to really put it to the test, i would buy more than one because you will be replacing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Utility I had a previous Gerber Multi-Tool when these tools first hit the scene and never had a problem. This new version is an excellent mix of form AND function. This tool has gotten myself out some pretty tight jams. Buckled onto my [...] Messenger Bag, it's with me at work and on daytrips, this nifty multi-tool has also helped me bail out others when a tool is needed and none are around. Even if you're not the outdoorsy type, this a great investment. It's better to have one and not use it often, than be somewhere and need one badly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product I bought this Multi-Plier back in '05 while working at a submarine building shipyard. It worked very well for me. A coworker had one also but he had broken the plier end of it trying to cut a wire. I had a hard time cutting wires with it also. Looking at it closer we found that the wire cutters don't meet up completely noticing that the needle nose tip makes contact first preventing the wire cutters at the base from making a clean cut like a pair of cutting pliers would. This was the only flaw I had found. When I used the fold out bottle opener the back stop had broken also, causing all the tools on that side of the handle to flop around when opened. 2 years ago I misplaced these pliers after a deployment and purchased a new one finding that it still had the same issue with the wire cutting section. I had just recently found my old pair in the bottom of my deployment bag and will have a machine shop fabricate a new back stop out of steel. I'll give one to my son to use on camping, hiking, and fishing trips. This tool is part of my everyday carry for work in the military and I also bring it with me on deployments. It has been dependable for me all these years. Besides the wire cutters the needle nose and pliers work great. The knife is razor sharp, the large Flat head tipped screw driver works, the Philips head tip works okay in a pinch but I've found it to be too flat. The small saw works okay in a pinch also but I think that it's mainly suited for thumb sized branches, the back side of the saw however works amazing on magnesium fire starters. The serrated knife cuts really good with leather, nylon and rope. The can opener/ bottle opener combo I have used, it works but that tool is how the backstop broke on my first one. Now when I use it I put my thumb on the backside to help relieve some pressure off the backstop. The small flat head tipped screw driver I mainly use for picking at things. I fashioned a 550 cord weave in the lanyard hole. And the scissor is small but rugged and works amazing. There are reference pictures on the handles helping you easily locate some of the tools For the price I would highly recommend these Multi-Pliers. I've come across many 100 plus dollar Multi-Pliers in my travels throughout the world but this one is simple, comfortable and dependable with minimal flaws.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get's the Job Done for Light/Medium Duty I purchased this tool to get me by and test how much I would use a multi-tool before I bought a more expensive/heavier duty tool. For the past year, I have used it for work, camping, hiking, and at home. It has proved to be a very durable tool for the money. The knife is still razor sharp, tools have not bend (yet), and pliers spring still functions. I do plan on purchasing the new tool that I originally had in mind because I found that I use the multi-tool often. This is going to stay in my vehicle/work truck as an extra backup. If you don't have $150 to spend on the top of the line, this is the tool that will get you by. Biggest complaint about the tool is actually the sheath that came with it. It last a whole 2 days! What a joke. First it was the belt attachments, then the entire sheath unraveled. I leather craft as a hobby, so it was no problem making a new quality one that has lasted.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Weak tool from Gerber. Bought this tool to replace my 5 year old Winchester Winframe Multi Tool and was not impressed. Had the Gerber for a month and tried it out for everything I used my old tool for. Work, home, car, backcountry camping. This tool was no lighter, did not have a file, flat blades not swept. The scissors are not sharp, more like child-proof scissors. The saw clogs up easily and is difficult to clean out. The pliers have very little grip in comparison. Can be difficult to open the tools if you have short fingernails. On the plus side. One hand opening of the 2 knife blades. Tools lock in place, but you need to hands to unlock. Bottom line. Just proves to me that more expensive is not necessarily better.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from sleek looking, but not effective Used this multitool this past weekend. The knives are pretty sharp and had no issues with it. The issue I had was with the can opener. While opening up a can, the can opener started from being in-line with the handle to having a 30 degree angle. It seems that the backing that prevents the can opener and other knifes slid down and now it doesn't stop any of the other tools from bending backward...no support. I'll be returning this and finding another tool.
