Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like... WOW I was looking online for a road atlas before my trip, and I was close to buying the McNally atlas but I found National Geographic Atlas here at REI... And WOW!! This atlas is amazing! Especially compared go the McNally! The names are NOT cut in half, it is visably easy to read, plenty of information on campsites, hotlines, and reservations! Plus a couple of sites to adventure to! Totally worth the money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned it, impossible to use As a heavy user of maps for decades, I found this atlas to be very difficult to use in any way and returned it. Locations of towns and places on the maps not in the state indexes make it cluttered and hard to find. Absence of parks, refuges, rivers, and other physical geography make it incomplete. This atlas is not up to NGS's historical map standards and should be redone by NGS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nat Geo does it again This is exactly what I expect from National Geographic. The cover is flexible, yet tough, plastic. Previous paper atlases I've owned have been quickly destroyed. Habitually, I stow atlases under the driver seat; they can get a little roughed-up. I think this one will last. The spiral-bound design conveniently allows it to be opened to any page and folded over. Staple-bound atlases don't have that luxury. Batteries die. I never rely on them. This atlas will always be there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Atlas Bought this as a backup to my iPad GPS. This day and age cellular service is everywhere but for those rare occasions when I lose GPS coverage I can turn to this atlas. Plus it is refreshing to see large maps visually with so much detail.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from indispensable for long road trips... i bought this and the DeLorme Atlas the same day...dollar for dollar, the best investment in my non-airport adventure planning for the next five years or better...coupled with a good hand lens, there exists an immense amount of useful information in a colorful format that can help you plan trips or make them spontaneous...this is the info you want in addition to whatever electronic device you find indispensable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for road trips! I love how this atlas is not just a road map but provided additional information on national and state parks, attractions and information on out door adventures. It is also very easy to understand and use. It has a protective cover incase it gets wet... I highly recommend this atlas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great road map atlas! Great atlas for driving the country and heading into the backcountry. Plan your hiking routes by checking the overview maps, then scale down into more detailed areas of the regions with other Nat Geo Trails Illustrated maps or AllTrails. Great addition for anybody.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best atlas around The Atlas is excellent for planning and comparing different itineraries. It is great for legibility while traveling in the car. The rich and contrasting colors are largely responsible for its superiority to other atlases.
