Tubing masterpiece

I love this cooler. Took it tubing last week and it holds 90 beers cold for as long as they can stay in there ;). This has replaced many cheap knock off coolers that I have used in the past. 16# of ice will stay 96 hours on a summer weekend personally tested. My previous cooler "Mr. Wheelie" couldn't last 48 in the same heat. The surface will get hot in the sun but that wont stop it from retaining its temp inside. Recommend the shade if you are looking for long duration of ice +4 days. One thing to note, because there aren't wheels you can hold about 15 more cans of beer in a similar exterior volume.

Bad Latches

In the past, this great cooler has demanded a premium price and deserved it. However, it has always had cheap latches that require replacement several times during the life of the cooler. Coleman parts and service was terrific, quickly providing both the cam latch and the handle latch for less than $10. Now however, they have discontinued availability of replacement latches. Happily, Coleman is redesigning the latch system for 2015 models, but is leaving current owners high and dry. I recommend you do not invest in this cooler until the new model is tested and reviewed.

Bought the anniversary edition. 100 year warranty.

Had this cooler for over none years. For the last 5 it sat in my shed. My shed does not leak water. However, it does get hot and humid in the summer. Anyway, pulled it out to use, the locking latch was totally encrusted with rust, unmoveable. half of the stainless screws holding the hinges had rust and there was some faint rust streaks on the sides and top. In addition the back steel panel had pulled up out of the black plastic base. I sent pictures to the Coleman rep that answered from the Philippines. Initially she offered me a 20% off coupon one something else. After a rather lively discussion, Coleman is sending me a new one. For something supposedly made of all stainless, I really expected better quality. But honestly if this was stored in an air conditioned house many of these problems probably would not have happened. But then again. ITs stainless steel with a 100 year warranty...

Nice Cooler, but......

I have 2 of these both stainless steel. One I got at a garage sale for $5. They are ok but the hinges are weak and they should have a strap to hold up the lid so it doesn’t fall to the back and put excessive force on the hinges. The stainless steel also gets extremely HOT if it is in the sun. That is not good for a cooler. I would choose another color. Not black or stainless. I ended up painting the top of mine white to keep it cooler, that helps. You can also just lay a towel or something on top if it sits in the sun to keep the metal from getting so hot. Overall they are still a good cooler and will last many years.

keeps food cold and fresh

I use this at our big camping event to keep meats and other perishables fresh. I've found that two large ice blocks will keep a full cooler of food cold for one day, then drain the water and put in two new ice blocks the next morning. Cooler has plenty of capacity, holding enough food for several people for several days. The rubber tube hand grips make it easy to lift, but the rubber tubes tend to slide around to the sides of the handles over time. The drain plug is also made of thin plastic and may snap off over time. Make sure the drain is plugged before putting the cooler in your trunk, or you'll have a big mess when you get home.

Great for Campsites and Backyard parties

I like this cooler for back yard cookouts/pool parties. I can keep the drinks cold for three days in humid heat in direct sun. With heat index above 100F that is pretty good performance! I have had no problem with the seal or the plug, and this cooler really is easy to drain. Have had no leaks either. I give the cooler 4 stars because the price is too high when I can purchase a Yeti and have it out-perform without question. However the yeti weights an insane amount if you are wanting to lug it on camping trips even in a vehicle. On the other hand the Yeti would be perfect for a boat, and this cool better for camping, backyard, parties, etc. Hope this helps!

Could be better

For a long time I wanted a great cooler and I thought this was it. I think I was charmed by the stainless steel out and the history of Coleman coolers, especially this model. Upon First couple of uses, I notice the lid doesn't really lock... Hmm. And it didn't occur to me that this metal beast would actually hold and retain heat. After a few years of average to low use (maybe 3-4 car camping trips a year) the lid hinge broke and the other one is loosening. I had to wedge a nail to hold it together. I finally found the cooler I think that will meet my car camping needs.

10 years of keeping food cold

I got this cooler as a birthday present 10 years ago and have used it for 4 or 5 car-camping trips each summer. I love it. I put a mixture of cold and room temp food in it on Friday with one bag of ice, and on Monday I still have ice keeping it cool. I have never had a cooler that kept cool so well. The sun seems to reflect right off rather than heating it up. My latch works well, and cinches down the lid with a hook type closure. Maybe this has changed since I got mine. My handles are still well padded with the rubber grips. My lid was pushed back too far and seems a little weak now when open, but still is functional. I haven't had any problems with the drain plug - although a screw on one sounds better. And the bottle opener would be a nice feature to put back on.

they don't make things like they used to

as a child, we used to go camping with the original coleman cooler. that one was bomb-proof. they removed all of the neat things from the classic in this poor excuse for a retro cooler. looks can be deceiving. we had this on our wedding registry & were more than happy to receive one. last year i would have gladly given this 5 stars, but after using it more i have cooled down to the awful redesign of this classic. the lid latch was changed from a steel hook that grabbed the lid & cinched it down tight. this new design has a metal cylinder that slides into a slot in the lid. problem is this doesn't hold very well & pops open. the old design had a screw drain plug with a chain attached to empty out the water. this one has a plastic cork-like plug that always seems to leak or worse, gets popped off in a loaded car. they also removed the built-in bottle opener that used to be integrated into the handle mounts. anyone that fondly remembers the old coleman cooler should take a look at this one in person to see what i mean. the new design is so kid-proof (no hook lid closure & no bottle opener) they took out the best parts of the design & opted for the cheap plastic replacements. now i'm looking on ebay for the old classic coleman cooler since they just don't make things like they used to!

Poor Quality - Poor Lid Latch

Bought this cooler and once I got it home and took a better look the disappointment started. Very poor quality, the latch is very loose (Bad Design) not allowing the lid to secure tight to the cooler, it stays loose. the hinges seem poor quality too. I wish I would have read the reviews on here as many other people are complaining about the same thing. Looks very nice but not worth the $150. Will be taking it back...
