Perfect kickstand

I installed this on my wife's CO-OP Cty 2.1 in XS size. I followed the directions on the package (minimal instruction, but come on, it's a kickstand) and cut off about 3/4 inch and installed the rubber foot (just do a web search). The bike leans perfectly and she doesn't have to look for walls to lean the bike on. She didn't like the "raw" aluminum color so I got some paint to compliment the bike. I had to grind down the bracket a little so the cable wouldn't rub on it, but it was not a problem.

does not fit my REI co-op

I can't seem to find any kickstand that fits my new REI co-op bike. Tried all the greenfield variations per recommendation from sales people and none of them fit. The product itself appears to be of good quality, so the review is about the struggle for solid advice for outfitting the REI bike.

Some Protips for Success

This Kickstand DOES fit on all Co-op brand bikes. Not all bikes require the second plate. In a lot of cases you are only using the bolt. Feel free to use Locktite to help the bolt stay put. No Co-op bikes are sold with kickstands (hence why there would be none on the sales floor with the kickstand attached). This kickstand is designed to be cut down to size. A regular hand saw does the job. Measure the distance between the bottom bracket and the bike first. If you are still having trouble I think REI will install this kickstand on your bike for free or for cheap. Good luck!

Not for fat tire bikes

I purchased this for the Co-op Rev 6 20" kids mountain bike. This bike has fat tires on it and because of that there is no clearance between the kickstand and the tire when in the storage (up) position. I'm sure that this would have adequate clearance with normal Kenda tires that these size bikes come with, but not the fat ones.

Might fit your bike, might not ...

If you read all of the reviews, you'll either see 5 star or 1 star. Which makes sense ... either it fit your bike or it didn't. The problem is that there are no specs that help you determine whether it fits your bike. Second, there are two models, and it's not obvious what the difference is. I ordered them both, and either REI made a mistake and shipped the wrong kickstand, or they're pretty much exactly the same. (Only one of them is called a "Top Plate" kickstand, but they both come with top plates.) Strike 3 is that the kickstand itself and the extra retention plate take two different diameter screws, so you can't use the kickstand without that extra plate, eliminating most kids' bikes from the list that it will work with. If they gave you an extra bolt, it would actually fit most bikes. But they don't even give you the dimensions, so the choice was to either take the kickstand to Lowes and spend half an hour in the bolt bin, or just return it and try again. Before I returned it, I walked through 3 bike shops, looking for a bike this would fit on, and didn't come up with anything. Not sure what the 5 Star folks are riding, but would love to hear someone from REI list the bikes that they carry that this fits.

Inexpensive & Made in the U.S.A.

I have one of each of my family members' bicycles. The one on my Mountain Bike has not come loose at the bolt, so don't worry about the lack of a lock washer. Add one if you wish. They are easy to cut if you need to adjust the length of the stand. The stands have worked great. I am ordering a new stand today to replace the one on my son's Mt. Bike. His bike got knocked over on to it's side and it landed on the stand and broke it at the pivot. My son has been a bit rough with his bike, so I guess this is to be expected. The stands are cast aluminum. Which is why the stand broke on my son's bike. Otherwise this is a great stand. Highly recommend. It beats those Chinese made adjustable kickstands sold in the discount stores for a higher price.

Great kickstand!

I bought this for my wife's new hybrid and it was the easiest modification that we did to it. The bolt takes a standard bike allen wrench and went on in less than 2 minutes! It bolts from underneath and does not interfere with the derailleur. We did not need to cut the length to fit on a 19" bike. The action of the kickstand is crisp and easy to operate and feels solid. Light and well made in my opinion.

Works as a kickstand should

It's lightweight, the instructions are good for determining how much to cut off, if any, to get it to the correct length, it's easy to install and works smoothly. Another good product from REI.

This is a no frills kickstand. Easy to fit, cut and install. I have one on all my bikes from my kid's 20" to my 700.

Can't beat the price!

I just bought this kickstand a couple days ago. Installation was amazingly simple and easy, and it seems to be a well-made product. And you can't beat the price!! I always feel a little better about buying products made in the USA too. The salesman I talked to at REI said I would have to cut it down to the right size (with a hacksaw), but it actually fit my bike perfectly. I could foresee it being somewhat of a pain to cut it down to size for those who have to do so, although the salesman said it was pretty easy. My only complaint so far is that I can foresee the kickstand eventually coming loose from the frame, and needing to be tightened. There is no nut or washer to help keep it screwed tight. I'll write another review if that becomes a problem later. Either way, it's not like tightening the screw every once in a while is a huge issue. It's still a good product.
