I cannot recommend this.

This lantern is disappointing. I purchased it last month and took it camping once. The internal rechargable battery works well enough; it will turn on the light and power a pone. However the lantern eats through AA batteries. On top of that, the latch that closes the battery compartment is hard plastic on a tight latch. The hinge is already cracking. I fear that the battery compartment latch will break soon. When the latch breaks, it will no longer hold batteries.

Great product from Black Diamond

I own other Black Diamond lights and have been very pleased with the features and performance of the brand which made me feel good about this purchase. This light has the same great features and performance, but I did not look closely at the details during an online purchase. This is a very slim light that is powered by 3AA batteries instead of a rechargeable battery. It’s my fault for not checking beforehand. I just want other to know that this is a very good light for inside a 3-4 person dome tent. You cannot use it to charge your phone like other Black Diamond models. It is small enough to stash in the side pocket of your backpack which I think is a good thing.

perfect lantern; generates a lot of light

I normally do not write reviews and am honesty writing this one because of the negative review I just read. I have a 14 yr old scout who has had this particular item for the last 3 years. It has gotten an enormous amount of use! There have been several camping trips that others rely on my son's lantern to be able to see. This is a steal at this outlet price!

Great for car camping

Haven't had any issues. This light is too heavy for backpacking but perfect for car camping. The hook allows it to be hiking from the tent ceiling. The lock feature keeps it from being accidentally turned on, which isn't too likely anyway. The adjustment of the brightness is great. Purchased my own after seeing what a great lamp it is.

Zip yes, Volt no.

I purchased a Black Diamond Zip and really liked it, so bought several and a couple of the Volt. The Volts, I could never turn the light on. So, I ended up with a couple of backup phone chargers that I cannot get to function as lights. I would NOT recommend or buy again. Still really like the Zip.

Only half works

While the rechargeable battery works fine, the lantern will not even acknowledge the AAs, let alone switch over to them as a power source.
