Well Built and Great Replacement for Disposables
Received free product
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I hate throwing away used fuel canisters - it just seems like the most wasteful thing. I saved a number of them over 2 years to recycle, only to be told "you can just throw them away" at the recycling center. So I do love that Coleman has developed a smaller tank that you can take along on a car camping adventure, leaving the green single-use bottles and the larger 20 lb propane at home. It's about time! I was very excited to utilize this in my camper van (Ford Transit Connect minivan), but unfortunately, the diameter is too bulky for it to be stowed somewhere useful. I'd say that is my only complaint - I would've liked to see a tank that offers a more easily stashable shape. But just because it doesn't fit in my van, doesn't mean it won't fit into most. Other than that, well built product that will likely stand up to use and abuse and a great replacement for disposable canisters. PROS: - Nice, more compact size than the larger 20 lb propane tank - Classic look - has a vibe like the old refillable Coleman lanterns - Lightweight - Easy to use - Nice, 4 feet long hose CONS: - Shape - I'd rather have a narrower, taller propane tank with a smaller footprint - Can be a pain to find somewhere to fill it. But once you do - it's easy! - Hose may not fit all stoves - No storage bracket to secure it has been designed for it that I'm aware of

Better than disposable tanks
While clearly a better value than non-refillable 1 lb propane cylinders not nearly as cost effective as similar unit from Flame King

Perfect size for your weekend getaway!

Received free product

First things first, I received this product for free for an unbiased review. This Coleman Refillable Propane Tank is perfect for your weekend camping, tailgating, hunting, or any other short trips. I enjoy cooking outdoors for my family of 4 and carrying around a 20lb tank is way too much and a single use 1lb tank can be too small and very wasteful. The refillable 4.25lb tank is environmentally friendly and the exact size I need for my weekend camping trips with the family. I got so many compliments from the campground staff - they all asked me where they can find one! The included hose works perfectly with my propane camping stove and I was very happy to find that I did not need an adaptor to make it all work together. FYI - the tank is approx. 1.2 gallons to fill up from empty. Really, there is nothing bad to say about this tank. Truly the perfect size for your 3 - 4 day trips. Save yourself some money from buying the 1lb (unrefillable) tanks and your back from lugging around a 20lb tank.

Nimble Propane Tank

Received free product

The overall dimension is 9.5” x 12”. I like that the width of the base as it adds stability. The only downside compared with competitors is that it does not have a case with loops on it to secure it for overlanding. It works great as expected from Coleman products. Hose was nimble and easy to connect. Performed well with the grill and the stove. Best thing about it is you can refill it unlike the green, 1 lb. propane canisters so it is a better option for the environment. I like the size as it is light and can be placed right on the table. Super convenient

Perfect for Car Camping!

This is essentially a perfect car/RV camping propane tank! It is solid and easy to hook up to whatever you are grilling with. I love how the hose tucks conveniently into the top of the tank for easy transportation and storage.

Perfect for weekend car campers.

Received free product

This tank worked great for my heater I keep in my garage. Adapter hose was easy to use and allows it to replace pretty much anything that takes the green 1 lb. tanks. The size and weight make it ideal for people traveling with it who don't want/need to take a full 20 lb. tank. The bottom is con-caved which makes it very stable. Overall a good product.

Just the right size.

Received free product

Used the Coleman to fuel a small propane powered outdoor heater on our back patio. It worked out great! Small enough to tuck under a side table, but big enough to keep us warm throughout the evening. Just the right size. It was easy to get filled up and is convenient to have around.

Super handy, compact LP tank!

Received free product

Love this little tank! Nice compact size, and I love the flat bottom. Its very sturdy and doesn't tip during transport. It comes with a hose, which is actually very helpful! Runs out little flat-top and grill for long weekends!

No more throwing away canisters!

Received free product

I love the concept of a refillable tank. It was killing me to throw all my propane tanks away and this is a nice solution. The size is portable with a decent handle on it but keep in mind this tank is much bigger than the small green canisters you might be used to getting. I found a hardware store that would fill this size and it was VERY affordable for just the propane and pretty easy once you find the right place. Overall I love recycling, having more propane and the sustainability of this tank, one star off for the high price point.

Defective product

I had trouble getting this filled, but on the 2nd try I found a place that was able to. I connected it to the camping stove to try out and everything seemed to work perfectly until I couldn't turn the gas off. Somehow the valve on the tank got stuck open and I couldn't shut it off. Eventually it shut off where I could disconnect it, only to find out that it was still leaking gas. Now having trouble returning as it still has gas in it that is leaking.

Highly recommended for groups/car camping

Received free product

It was interesting how challenging it can be to find a retailer that will refill a propane tank versus only provide exchanges. I found that local hardware stores are more likely to have this capability, but call first to make sure. The market seems to be centered about the convenience of exchanging versus refilling. The functionality of this tank is pretty great. It connected directly to my Colman stove, which has great. From there it’s all the same except it lasted much longer and I’m no longer wasting money on throw away bottles. I saw another post that had a great idea of reusing a milk crate to package up the tank, hose and cleaning gear to keep it well contained in the car. I found that the volume of the tank was also great for getting our scout troop through a short week/long weekend of car camping, and the reusability factor is great for adding to the troops’ trailer to avoid buying the non-reusable variety. Great add to our gear, and definitely recommend to add for other group’s gear!
