Extremely comfortable. If space isn't a huge concern for car camping this would be amazing to take on your adventures. It does self-inflate but it take a couple hours so set it up right when you get to camp. You can tell it would keep you insulated from the ground well. R-factor of 5. Comes with a couple straps for storage. No bag though. I am just using a heavy duty trash bag to store it long term. Very impressed. Worth every penny. A good night's rest when camping is everything.
Just used this pad for a little two night off-season trip, with lows just above freezing. Between this and our 20 degree rated sleeping bag, we were toasty and quite comfortable (Enough to keep my very indoor-cat boyfriend happy with the setup). I will say, the comfort level is vastly improved with two people on the pad to displace a little more air and keep bony bits from hitting the ground. It's fairly heavy though, so definitely more car-camping centric.
Needed a bit more comfort when car/tent camping, especially when it's cold. Had used a pad similar to this one a few times, liked it well enough to spend a few bucks with REI and get one coming. Shipping was real quick (REI always has shipped fast to me) and so far, I really like the pad. Plenty of room for two of us and it is really comfy. It packs reasonably small, considering that it fills to 4" thick. The self inflate was not real good first time, but after being packed so tight I kind of expected it to be a little slow to fully expand. I did use an air pump to top it off. It is a bit of a job to roll it back up nice and tight, but the two valves do let the air flow out freely and it packs up pretty easily. The fabric is nice in that it is quiet and non-slick, easy to stay put on and not crackly or sticky. A real nice luxury camping pad in my opinion.
Dog and husband approved! We stayed plenty warm down into low 40s. My husband complained it was too firm the first night, so I opened one of the slow release valves to deflate until he was happy without either of us having to get out of the sleeping bag. It held air perfectly for 3 nights and didn’t need any topping up. We are both side sleepers, my husband being 6’4” and 200 lbs and neither of us bottomed out. It was super easy to vacuum while deflated at home before storing. I would NOT consider this pad self-inflating at all, but with a $40 micro pump that wasn’t a problem. I LOVE the valve design, just flipping the one-way valve and using the air pump in reverse made deflating a breeze. Just make sure to close one valve while pumping air out or air will keep entering and it won’t get flat. I wasn’t worried at all about our corgi’s nails puncturing it, and she was lounging on the bare pad in doggo bliss as soon as it was inflated.
This is a pretty nice Sleeping pad, I recently used it in Yosemite (in 42F temperatures) and it performed really well. It performed so well that my friends who were using air mattress wanted to use this pad since it was so comfortable. It does perform okay on "self-inflating" part but if you want to use it to its full extent I would highly recommend using some kind of inflator to inflate this pad. Overall very happy with the pad
In nearly 50 years of sleeping outside, this is absolutely the most comfortable I have ever been. I wouldn't want to haul it very far on my back, but then that's not what it's made for.
Changed my camping experience completely. I am a Scout Leader and camp out each month. I am also a side sleeper, so there are hip bone challenges. At home I sleep like the dead. While camping I sleep feather light. Not anymore! This is so completely comfortable and restful. Best sleep I’ve had outside since returning to the tents with my newest family scout going camping.
We love big aggie 💓 Literally sleep however you want on this it’s so comfortable. We put sheets on it and used it for months while waiting on a new mattress. I would recommend a decent layer (blankets/sleeping bag) to avoid the tight durable slicky plastic feeling :)
REI sold this to me and on delivery day i get an email saying it’s “no longer in stock” very poor business practice to sell an item to someone you don’t have and then not even tell them until the day it is supposed to be delivered. Now i must leave for my trip and dont have time to find a replacement… thanks REI. VERY disappointed.
Comfortable but does not deflate. Completely useless once taking out of the packaging
