I have a women's regular insulated mat. The good: Blows up quickly, deflates to fold easily, lightweight, and if it held air would be comfy. This is my second mat both with similar problems: they lose air as the night goes on so that I'm sleeping in the middle of the night on a 1/2 full pad. Very uncomfortable. The first one I looked and looked for a leak, then sent back to the company who said there was no leak after testing. I asked to please send another one. They did and the same problem is occurring, whether at high altitudes (which they said might happen and you have to re-blow it up) or in the desert. Unfortunately, I'm done with this mat.
I bought this mat as an upgrade from my long-used RidgeRest ThermaRest. I was looking for a mat that was warmer, more compact, and had a little more give than my prior mat, and this product checks all those boxes. It inflates and deflates in no time, and holds its shape all night. I’m 5’5’’ and got the medium length, which is roughly 5’6’’, so it provides the perfect length to cover from head to toe. Additionally, the pump sack is a great way to maintain the quality of the mat - it’s easy to use and it’s attached to the mat itself so I won’t ever misplace it. I look forward to using my STS mat more often, and to cutting up my ThermaRest to use as a campfire cushion!
I will admit that I have only used this product twice, but it is pretty amazing. I’ve stayed away from sleeping pads like this because I don’t like the idea that if they pop, they are done and it’s useless, and have always heard how uncomfortable mats without a lot of padding are. But I need a light pad for bike packing and backpacking that I went for it. Not disappointed. It is extremely comfortable to sleep on, as it better than all my other pads. People said this was loud, and it certainly isn’t quiet but I would not consider it loud at all. Less so than it’s competition. Would recommend
Highly recommended by local adventure store. Bought mine a year and a half ago. Used on five trips. It failed two times. Not good numbers. First time out on a three day trip, the sleep mat sprang a leak the first night. Thought is was suppose to be a little saggy. checked it in the bath tub at home. Low and behold, there was a pin hole. Last night, I camped in 17 degree weather. Miserable all fourteen hours of darkness. I inflated the darn thing about eight or nine times. First the my hip got chilly. Then my side and leg followed. My hot water bottle couldn't keep up. When my feet became numb, I had run out of insulators to throw underneath. Not good. Just another piece of stuff to put in a landfill.
I've been using this pad for about 3 years now. For many people, I think this pad will be nearly perfect, but for larger folks like me (6'2", 210lb), it's simply not thick enough to keep my shoulders and hips comfortable. My choices are either to have the air pressure absolutely maxed out, making the pad too firm to be comfortable, or to have my shoulders and hips on the ground when I'm sleeping on my side. If you're lighter or don't sleep on your side, the thickness might be perfect for you. For me, it's simply not comfortable enough to keep, and I'm looking at getting rid of it.
I bought the UltraLight Insulated mat because I wanted something warmer and more compact than my folding closed cell foam pad. I'd had bad luck with self inflating pads in the past, but the high quality of all the Sea to Summit products I'd seen convinced me to give the UltraLight Insulated air mat a try. So far this pad has been excellent. It packs down into a tiny package, it's warm, it's comfortable, it's light, and most importantly, it's been trouble free. The inflator built into the stuff sack is icing on the cake, it makes blowing up the pad ridiculously easy.
I purchased this sleeping pad predominantly for bikepacking. It is super lightweight, quiet, and inflates with apprx 4 breaths using the provided Airstream Pumpsack, which is super convenient and easy to use (no getting lightheaded after a long day). The mat is very easy to set up and break down. I purchased the insulated mat to use in chillier temps, I've used it down in the mid 50's, but haven't had any issues with it in mid-summer heat. I'd definitely recommend this pad to anyone looking for a lightweight, quiet and comfortable option.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far so good. I've only slept on it twice though. The first time was with a sea and summit quilt and it was great. I had to replace the quilt (another story) and the mat doesn't seem to work as well my new quilt, which is slipperly. Likes on mat: warm enough, easy to blow up, good for side sleeper, works with the sea and summit quilt, and packs down. Dislikes: could be wider. I know 20" is standard. I do use a 1/4 foam pad with it. Not that trusting of any air. Probably give it a 5 if my quilt would have worked.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took this out on a 5 night backpacking trip. It was a really comfortable sleep (no aching hips the next morning) and it was a much quieter than my last air mattress. I’m 5’4” and I got the short mattress. I had plenty of room. I also noticed a difference in temperature. We backpack in the same park at the same time of year (lows in the 40s and 50s). I didn’t expect to notice a difference but this air mattress stayed a lot warmer than my previous mattress which made for a more comfortable nights sleep.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] May is comfortable and packs fairly small. I think it strikes a good balance between comfort, weight and packed size. I had a leak which could not be repaired with a patch (welded spot broke loose) however sea to summit warranty team were quick to send a prepaid shipping label. After sending my pad on they informed me they would send a replacement free of charge. A+ for warranty department!! I am hopin the failure was a fluke and my new pad will provide me great service for years to come.
