Snow Pants vs. Bibs: Which Are Better?

Powder days are bib days. Made for freeriders looking for the steep and deep, the women's Arc'teryx Sentinel bib pants shut out wind and snow with breathable GORE-TEX—and they have a drop seat, too.

Well, I'm embarassed: I have to add a bad review reporting a mystery tear that is almost exactly the same as a bad review reporting a mystery tear left by another user less than a month before, on the same product. I've used these pants maybe 4 times, with my kid, on green slopes. VERY light use, no falls, no trauma. And yet, we have a tear. It's incredibly disappointing. Arcteryx customer care categorizes this as "accidental damage", and it's certainly that, but not an accident by this user. I wish I had looked through the reviews here and for the other products with GORE-TEX ePE fabric ("with a more durable 80D recycled face" - ha!), they all report the same problem consistently. I'm worried for my Sentinel jacket now too.
I was very excited about these pants with the fit and colour. But the quality and durability is not good. I’ve worn them 10 times and already have 3 years and starting to see more already. I feel like I should be getting more wears before they start ripping. Would not recommend.
I live in the Pacific Northwest and spend a good portion of my winters skiing when there is heavy precipitation and deep snow. Having a solid set of bib pants is crucial to staying dry. These bibs have a nice semi-relaxed fit and are easy to move in and do an awesome job of keeping me dry. Sometimes when I am ski touring in these, I unzip the chest area to allow the bibs to breathe a bit better, and I always use the leg vents when touring or hiking which are easy to quickly unzip to ventilate higher near your hip, or lower near your knee depending on your preference. The new back panel section that is not full Gore (older design) is nice since it allows the back area to breathe a bit better. Transceiver pockets are nice and spacious with a tether and inner sleeve to keep your items in place. The chest pocket fits my iPhone 14 Pro vertically, but I usually use it for holding other items that I want to keep warm. I have an older pair of the Sentinel bibs from 21/22 season before this redesign for 24/25 that I used to wear in a size XS. In these new bibs, I wear a size 6 as my true-to-size, but could make the size 8 work as a looser, relaxed fit style. I am 5'5" and 130lbs and typically wear a size 2 or 4(XS or S) in Arc'teryx lifestyle pants and a 26 or 27 in other brands of pants. Definitely very different sizing if you are used to the older size range. Love the Sequoia color!
I wanted to love these. I really did as I got these after the old version delaminated. However after less than one season and maybe 30 days of use, these pants are essentially falling apart. Every time I head out, I find a new rip or defect. I’ve patched them so many times. At this price point, you aren't just buying a brand, you’re buying the promise of protection and durability. These pants failed on both counts. It’s heartbreaking to invest this much money into 'top-tier' gear only to have it perform like a fast-fashion knockoff. Save your wallet and your heart—look at other brands until Arc’teryx fixes their current durability issues.
Best bibs I've ever worn! The bibs move well during activity, and have great venting on the sides with zippers that are easy to manipulate with mittens on. Very comfortable fit and quick and easy to undo for bathroom breaks. I've worn many bib brands (Stio, Flylow, North Face and Marmot) and these are my absolute favourite of all time. The Gore-tex fabric feels durable without being stiff. I've ski toured in them and also resort skied. I pair them with the Rho hybrid insulated legging for the cold days, and standard Rho cropped legging for warmer days. I bought a size L for baggy comfort and movement. (I typically wear a medium 5'8 145lb)
These are great quality, stylish etc, but don’t allow for much movement - the stiff fabric for the whole bib restricts my movement when bending/walking uphill (not great for backcountry). Just gets tight in the front of the thighs and butt despite being baggy when standing, maybe it’s partly bc the inside material isn’t smooth against my base layers. I did try a size up but it was overly baggy and a bit long (I’m 5 ft 6.5 in). Probably would’ve preferred the pants not sure but regretting this purchase given the price.
This is my first year in the Sentinel Bib Pant as I typically run the Rush Bib Pant for touring, but I couldn't resist the Tatsu/Forage/Canvas (Green) combination paired with the Sequoia Sentinel Relaxed Fit Jacket (Deep Red). These bibs fit so well and the fabric is durable and comfortable. I've toured in them a bit and would likely size down if they were my go to touring pant. I'm 5'2" for reference and wear an 8 in this pant and I definitely like my fit to be on the baggier size for freeride and riding at the resort. I run the Rush Touring bib for hiking as it has less material in the chest area and is a bit cooler for the uphill, but if you run cold these are also great bibs for hiking! Loving the new colorways and the chest pockets etc. Just an all around great pant that will last years and years.
I am incredibly disappointed and surprised that it only took one resort ski day at Mt. Seymour this season to already get a tear in these pants. At the bottom of one of the legs, there is a decent hole in the outer shell. I really like the pockets, design and fit of this item, but at the end of the day, paying this much money for a product that falls apart within the first day of use and does not appear to be built with long-term durability in mind is pretty disappointing.
Love the design but the color is unfortunately fad, pink is very weak. For me it's not OK as dirt will build up very fast on such a bright jacket. In the pictures it seems a little more pink than in reality. Unfortunately returned it because of it as I am looking for a stronger pink ( without being too flashy). Ordered size 6R for being 168cm and 56kg so normally wearing XS or S for pants which corresponds to other comments here about a strange sizing
I love these pants. They have kept my butt dry for 3 seasons of snowboarding even in the Wet West Coast winter conditions. They're also very durable and breathable.
