Osprey  StraightJacket Compression Sack

I so wanted to like this compression stuff sack! I looked at the picture and was looking forward to having a stuff sack that doesn't turn into a hard cylindrical bomb. Don't people designing stuff (like bear boxes and stuff sacks) realize that cylinders don't pack well? Unfortunately the side straps and the big lengthwise slit don't work. I purchased the 12L sack and tried to put an 11L sleeping bag in it, and the whole side stayed wide open. I couldn't even cinch the two straps. I'm also not confident that the buckles would last, even if I had managed to close and tuck in the side flap, they seemed flimsy. Will be returning it :(

I have owned a 12l Osprey Straitjacket for the last few years and have traveled a couple thousand miles with it on bicycle journeys. I use the Straitjacket to store my tent, making it much easier to get in and out of the StraightJacket. In my experience, especially with my tent, they usually come with a bag that is hassle to get the tent back in without be worried about tearing or damaging the tent fabric. The Straitjacket was my solution. After being 100% sold on the item I ordered the larger 20L, to include a small collapsible camp chair. When I received the new 20L Straitjacket it appears that Osprey has deleted a zipper that helped close the bag, that was used prior to buckling and compressing it down with the straps. The bag appears will still work, but I am concerned about it not holding smaller items in the bag as well and just not being as secure. I will still use it, but it should be noted and I find it not as good at the previous model, with the zipper. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I bought a handful of these a few years ago on clearance. Just started using them in my daughter's and my backpacks for our ul down sleeping bag/ quilts. They make the perfect shape when compressed (imagine a 12x5" pot-sticker, lol) that stuffs just right into the bottom of most backpacks

I have the old 30l with the zipper and love it. Came here to get another and a couple smaller sizes, but without the zipper I’ll keep looking. Using them for compression and protection of clothes inside my snowboard bag; no zipper is going to make both less effective.

I just recieved 2 compression sacks 12L & 8L and was bummed to find out that the no longer come with a zipper to hold your stuff in place before starting to compress the bag. I'm gonna give it a shot and hope for the best.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The color is beautiful, but I was disappointed when I saw that the design did not have a zipper. It makes the 20L compression bag difficult to close and compress.

I love my 30 L so much I came back to buy another one. The first one was purchased in 2022 and it does have a zipper. So the newer design doesn’t have a zipper?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The level of compression thanks to the straps is next level! I think the lack of zippers reduced unnecessary bulk keeping it extremely lightweight for travel.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this to compress a down jacket and pants which I keep in my skiing vest. Ot works well and creates a “loaf of bread” shape rather than a log shape.
