Great Chair!

It's a great chair but why did it have to double in price from the same exact model we bought a few years back. Go capitalism, lol.

Good except for structural flaw and material flaw.

This is one of the better versions of this style of chair as it has good pockets and has lasted a few years but it has two issues. One, the basic design of all these tyep chairs puts a twisting strain on the pin where the struts cross. My wife and I are both light people (160 and 135 #) but in the second season of use, the aluminum rivets broke off due to the twisting stress from the design. I replace the aluminum with steel nails bent over and they continue in service. But you have to catch it in time. You would hope that for the price, REI could correct this. The bigger issue is that the seat is plastic mesh and this mesh is highly sensitive to any ember that might land on it. Much more than fabric on similar chairs. This is only a concern if you like to use them around campfires. My $60 chair got a hole in the seat the first month of use. Nothing much I could do, so we try to keep a distance from campfires and just keep using it. Now, after a few years, the hole is ripping and I must find a way to repair. REI recommends Tenacious tape which is a weak shot in the dark, won't hold up. If you check the questions, you will find several people have had this happen. Given these two failure points, I'm not sure I can recommend it unless it's priced more like the average version at Walmart. It's better made than the cheapos, but the two bit flaws mean that it won't last if you use it much and especially not around campfires.

My favorite REI chair

We love this chair. Got one in blue and one in orange. Love those colors. I sat in every chair at REI (about 20 of them) before deciding on this one. I’m 6’1” 185lbs and it fits perfectly. Material, construction comfort. My only complaint is the cup holder on the right arm rest does not support a standard soda/beer can very well. It can tip over in the big beverage area. Love the other holders it has though.

A comfy practical camping chair

This is a nice camping chair. It easily comes in and out of the travel bag. Its heavy enough that you aren't going to be carrying it for miles, but for relatively short distance carrying its not bad at all. Its quite comfy to sit in. The little holding bag and cup holder is also convenient. Cup holder is a nice size for a bigger body like a nalgene, but smaller thins don't seem quite secure. Also as a heads up if you care about such things the seating area is mostly mesh.

Solid one-piece construction is the only positive…

Other than being solidly built and in a single expandable piece, these don’t deliver. Folded up, they are extremely long at 33in, abd too heavy for appearing to be a light choice. The fatal flaw is being too upright with too short a chairback, which puts too much pressure on the mid-back, and too narrow at the front due to edges that jut out from the tubing holes. I have pretty narrow thighs/hips, and felt constricted at the front of the chair. Plus, the chair just doesn’t put you in a comfortable position to rest in for long. Much more pleased with a 2-pack of Cascade Mountain Tech highback chairs I got from Costco, which are half the weight and packed size.

Great Chair, Very solid!

Absolutely love this chair. It's been on many trips with me and functions well. Several chairs I've used in the past failed within a season or two but not this Skyward Chair. I take this chair backpacking sometimes. It's the same pack weight as many chairs used for backpacking but doesn't have the ability to break down to half its size to save room. But I'd take a solid chair over one that has 12 pieces to put together. When I'm ready to sit down and not looking to build a chair. I sit in a Skward Chair.

Great chair!

This is a great chair. It keeps your back cool and dry while seated. The mesh also shakes moisture off easily. The large cup holder and pocket are great quality of life features. The only issue I have with it is the bag. The strap is too short to comfortably go over my shoulder and across my chest. And I wish the bag was also made of a mesh material so that it isn't sitting in a soaked bag when it has been getting rained while stowing it (storing on a roof-rack, for example). The chair itself awesome though!

Basic, but VERY Comfy Camp Chair

I have a few backpackers chairs, and have used other generic camping chairs, but on the basic, standard chair level, the REI Skyward just plain fits. It’s much more comfortable than other knock-off chairs that sit too straight, or are rickety and heavy. This is a lightweight chair, with quality features (ie the unique cup holders - one being able to Velcro up when not being used) is ideal. It’s posture isn’t too rigidly straight so you can sit in a relaxed, comfortable position around the fire. Highly recommend.

easy to transport and compact

I love this chair bc it is easy to transport and doesn’t take up a bunch of space. it also has never pinched me while opening/closing it up. it has great compartments for phone and large tumblers. and it holds up to 150 kgs! So anyone can use it. Oh, yeah, and it’s comfy and i don’t get hot sitting in it. i’m actually back for another one :)

Terrific

Terrific chair. Have used this chair (older model) for about a year. Works great, very comfortable, easy to carry to and from the little league field or to the beach with the included bag. Parent tip: can easily carry two of these in their respective bags and a bucket of toys without too much strain.
